Buxton Trout & Salmon reviews
43We had a fantastic morning at the farm on Saturday. But it was a morning we could have done with a coffee.
Great experience and lots of fishes to catch! The staff is very friendly as I had no idea what to do given never done fishing but he explained to me and I did manage to catch 4!
Great fun for kids and a beautiful ambience too.
I've been fishing at Buxton Trout & Salmon Farm for many years. It's a great drive up to Buxton and a really good spot to go fishing for some salmon and trout. An early start is always good here. I always end up taking home so good catches.
We've visited multiple times and keep coming back as it's quite a unique experience. There is a large shaded BBQ area for you to grill the fish you catch so it's a great place to relax and enjoy deliciously fresh trout & salmon with friends and family. For the salmon, the friendly staff also do sashimi (additional $10 service fee per fish applies) and it is awesome watching them expertly carve the salmon into sashimi pieces. And yes, it tastes heavenly. If you just want to catch fish quick to cook there are ponds at the back where you can hook fresh fish in minutes. Overall, an absolute delightful place to visit for, or as part of a daytrip.
Been to a few trout farms around town by this time. Buxton farm is alright. All the usual facilities are there and working: gas-fired BBQs, rods, nets, baits, fish gutting services all good.
Meanwhile, the salmon pond. There's fishes in there and you can see them.unfortunately, there's quite a number that are obviously injured with multiple sores, they are hardly swimming anymore and just lying by the shallow edge of the pond gasping what seemed their last breaths. It's a sorry sight. Hope management will pay attention to this.
Highlight: Tiger trouts.quite rare amongst the rainbow trouts majority but satisfying if you manage to catch one.
Edit - Filleting is $5 per fish.
Rude, unfriendly, disrespectful,
People work here deal with you like you are their enemies
Great place to spend your day here. The price seems reasonable. Will definitely come back again during my next trip.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Great customer service and great fun. We enjoyed ourselves and definitely will come back
I travelled to this farm for a fish. Not worth the two hour drive from Shepparton. I would give two stars, but I received a message from Bright farm, saying due to the time of year, the salmon and trout didn't bite at that time. Which, as an experienced fisherman I can forgive, but. When we caught our fish (which we had to use our own rods for!) The entry fee, is understandable, and could have been forgiveable. But, they, unfortunately make you pay for guts and all. If your located around Shepparton, and can get to bright, bright is way better, with free entry.
If I could give some advice, dont make entry free, but money back if you don't get a fish. And also, pay for what you keep, we got ours filleted, and payed fifty dollars, that probably could have been baught for 30 or 40 at bright. In all, staff were quite nice, but, that's my experience. Pretty bad, but hay, people need to make a living somehow (even if its by scamming people)
It's a great place to go with the family. My teenage boys loved the excitement of catching their first fish. There's heaps of trout there. Salmon are hard to get. We got trout and rainbow trout.
As an avid Saltwater fisho, best $80 spent for just under 3kg in 3 beautiful fit Rainbow Trout, with EVERYTHING supplied.
Great fun to see the fish going ballistic over the burley, the wife had a smile that l still can't remove, catching 2 of the beuties.
Could've spent more time having a look around and dropping a few more fish. (Must Keep and Pay for All fish landed) Friendly staff who cleaned and packed in a bit of ice.
Entry fee doesnt justify going, if you are family of 5 you will be paying $50 just to enter plus for food etc? Entry fee for person catching the fish would be justified. I would have come but sorry too $$$ for big family
Edit: Thanks for clarification guys, will put this place on my to go list.
A great place for children and adults, to catch your first fish, or try the challenge pond for a big reward. If you prefer you can just buy some fish, prepared and ready to cook.
The best trout fishing experience! We've visited a few trout farms over the years and I must say Buxton is the most organised and cleanest that I've seen. The staff are all very professional and friendly. The entire experience was just seamless. From the entrance, picking up a rod, baits, then fishing in various ponds from easy to hard and small to big fish in the pond. Definitely a great place to visit.
Have been here twice now. Just recently went with my partner and 3 year old - super friendly staff and very helpful! Very easy to lose track of time and spend hours here. Highly recommend!
Cute little trout and salmon farm with lovely grounds. I liked that the pools were not just rectangular dams, they were all different shapes and had little bridges over and seats beside. Caught ourselves dinner and then some! Thanks for a nice afternoon!
Haven’t been there for awhile, we usually caught the fish get it cleaned and take it to Marysville for a barbq.
They have now an undercover barbq area it’s a bonus so we just all decided to stay we all have a beautiful day!
All staff are friendly and helpful thank so much
Fishing rods, bait, bucket all provided with entry fee. $3 extra per fish caught an they gut it for u. Beautiful grassed areas, as well as a covered BBQ area with seating. Great for kids over the age of 3. My 2.5 year old and 18 month old were not interested, however they enjoyed running around the grassed area and watching others catch fish. Very easy to catch fish:)
Gets busy from midday onwards.
Buxton Trout and Solmon Farm is a great place for family dayout. Kids enjoyed catching fishes. You can either catch using fishing rods or net both provided on entry. Different ponds having different kinds and sizes of fishes. Whatever you catch, you pay for it and then you can use their bbqs to cook it there.
Friendly staff and great customer service. I highly recommend this place for newbies, an introduction to fishing!
