Eight years ago with retirement well and truly on our planning horizon I started a review of our superannuation.
Several issues became apparent. The first issue was that like some others of our generation we needed to be more serious with our saving both inside and outside superannuation. The second issue was that our superannuation was scattered around a number of accounts. Some were large and some small, some were performing well and some not so well. But the third and key issue was a lack of control and personal input. I am a project manager and this lack of input irked me.
About this time AMP had arranged a short seminar with the company I was working for and their representative was Burke Britton. After the seminar I arranged for BB to review our circumstances and provide a recommendation on how to proceed. I was already of the view that an SMSF was a good vehicle to help resolve some of these issues. I was impressed with the BB organisation with a friendly responsive approach and they appeared to be capable of covering the compliance and administrative complexity that I did not have the time, expertise or the personal systems to handle.
The result was that we were pleased to engage BB to assist us with developing a personal plan and a strategy for our superannuation. Since then we have been very pleased with the attentiveness and personal interest of Jay Burke and the team. Our superannuation has performed to plan with sound advice and recommendations (within the constraints of our economic environment).
With BB’s capable assistance we have achieved our objectives again with the key being that we feel more engaged with the management of our superannuation and saving. And we have been fortunate enough to travel a number of times and fund an extended period of early semi-retirement or sick leave!
