Budapest Restaurant and Palinka Bar reviews
57 Their food is always good with a bit of slight difference. Even the boyfriend is not Hungarian anymore, I still love going back to Budapest!
-post COVID update-
My boyfriend's family is Hungarian, and I'm Taiwanese. I've discovered some similarities between the two cultures' cuisines when we have meals together, eg.both soup lovers and hot food eaters.
With my dinner at Budapest yesterday, I was surprised how similar in tastes we are! The Hungarian goulash with nokedli dumplings is exactly our Taiwanese beef noodles without soup! I'm in love with Hungarian food now! Thank you Budapest restaurant x
The meal was easy to order, it was ready at the requested time, the greeting at the door very friendly and the food was a great success at last night’s dinner.
Schnitzels are as big as my face. Chicken soup is hearty and delicious. Been going here for years. Classic for a hungover feed. Bit spenny tho.
Come for the Schnitzels, but do do do try the Goulash! Oh and the apple and walnut strudel. Great vibe, light and airy, nice atmosphere and great service. Highly recommended!
Absolutely love Budapest! We’ve been coming here for years. Thanks team for always making such amazing food. Your snitzel and parmas are the best!
Food was delicious, fast and the schnitzel is a hugely generous serving! Will definitely be back.
Love this place - one of the best schnitzels in Melbourne! Their happy hour deal is incredible value too.
Good food. Can be noisy when crowded.
The lockdown takeaway service is excellent. Highly recommended either way.
The food is always amazing and the staff are super friendly and nice. I would recommend this place all the times
Great Food Great People Great Restaurant
Lovely restaurant, fast and friendly service. Delicious food. Must try the authentic Hungarian dishes. Some good specials.
Food was delicious, lovely flavour and particularly the schnitzel was divine. Will definitely order takeaway again and can’t wait to dine in-house when we can.
Great food, huge serves, great service and as good as my Hungarian mother made. Bring back stuffed cabbage please!
SERVICE 2 star, FOOD IS GREAT 4/5 star, This is a hard review leave, came here for the 1st time last week, the service was good, food came out very fast and was very tasty, we had the plain Schnitzel with pleasant potatoes, and entree beef goulash and a chicken soup. We were in and out with in 35 min,
we noticed a happy hr sign last time,
so my wife and I came again a week
Later, Arrived 5: 48 pm with In There strict times, ordered the Same food I had last time including a beer and a strawberry Sparkling wine, both on. The happy hr list, we Made our order before 6 o’clock and finished our dinner at 6: 20, I went to pay and all prices were full price, I Asked why am I being charged full price when we are here during happy hour and was told because they took my order just after six and I said that was wrong, we sat down before 6 pm they then told me because my wife and I shared a schnitzel and that’s why we are paying full price but we ordered about $80 worth, of food and drink, This is a real shame because I really like the food here but I won’t be coming back for a long time as I don’t like being ripped off and being miss lead, happy to pay full price out of happy hr, but this is unacceptable, FOOD FANTASTIC, staff are nice, Except the bald guy with a beard he’s not very welcoming the rest of the staff are pretty nice.
The servings are large but not prepared with any "love". The salad was quite ordinary with no dressing. The goulash was only warm. There was a very large schnitzel which seemed to be thrown on the plate with a small serving of potatoes. The waiter seemed irritated when we asked for anything
Very friendly service, great location (just watch out for the parking restrictions in surrounding streets!) and a large range of dishes. We've never had Hungarian before, so I'm not sure whether it's really authentic. My Mexican schnitzel was huge (big portion sizes!), but tasted a bit bland to be honest. Like I said, I'm not experienced with Hungarian cuisine, though. Cevaps were tasty, and my son loved the kids chicken schnitzel bites (big serve!). My wife loved her chicken and said the apple strudel was great! Ice cream sundae was pretty plain and nothing special. Maybe try the other dessert options. Extensive drinks list. Definitely worth a try at least once. Friday / Saturday night minimum spend $40 per adult. 1.5 hour sitting. Might change after COVID-19 (?).
My partner and I went there before lockdown. It's the only Hungarian restaurant around the neighbourhood. I have heard good things about them, however, the first time we were there food coming out really slow. It took 30mins to 45 mins to get two Parma more even more. We could hear chef was yelling to the waitress through kitchen which we don't think anyone deserve be treated like that. If you like slow service and yelling noise when you are dining great spot to visit!
The BIGGEST schnitzel I have ever seen! The serving sizes are ridiculously huge! The food was delicious and very traditional - took me back to my European heritage. Fully licenced - so no BYO. Good selection of wines. They have a large upstairs area - so good for large groups. If you’ve ever wondered what Hungarian food is like - then I’d recommend you visit Budapest Restaurant.
To say this food was good, great or even fantastic wouldn’t be fair to the chef. It’s not often in life you eat something that is just absolutely life changing. Top 5 foods I’ve ever eaten kind of vibe. I had the meat lovers Parma, this schnitzel was stuffed with bacon, cheese and Hungarian smoked sausage and topped with veal Bolognese and cheese to top it off. Each bite of this felt as if it was a gift from god. What an absolute treat. A cherry beer to tie it all together and the goulash is phenomenal as well. Thank you and will be back!
Everything here was for 5 stars. We have returned to this restaurant after many years. Occasion was birthday.
Hungarian lady who welcomed us was excellent with explaining everything in details including Hungarian wines and palinkas.
Mixed entry cold and hot was appealing, tasty and nicely presented.
Our meals have been delicious. Real home made soup, gypsy chicken with garlic, pork hock pulling apart and 'paprikash' all very generous and yummy.
We shall definitely come back.
Thanks for lovely night and looking after us.
Best place for a decent meal, none of this bs small meal on a huge plate, I've been going there for years, I fn love it. No waiting for ages for meal to be cooked! The house snitzal literally hangs over the plate.
