Favourite local coffee and brunch house now doing dinner! Amazing burgers, and even better sides. It’s going to be hard not going here every Friday!

Oh. My. Burger. Will be back!
Wasn't a fan of the cheese on the Poutine, but the burgers are the BEST around - juicy and fresh. Really rate it.

If you were ever wondering where to get the best burgers in Melbourne, I have definitely found one of them.

Brüger, hidden and unsuspecting on Barkley St is an absolute dark horse. I visited a few years ago when they were operating as a cafe before they recently transformed into what it always intended to be - a boozy burger bar. They haven’t promoted themselves heavily yet, but you would know the owners from their buzzing local cafe, @west48.

The experience here is unlike your regular burger joint, the service and vibe is sophisticated and personalised. It has an American saloon style diner feel to it. A place you can relax with some subtle music and enjoy some table service and a beer or wine with your meal. Ian will happily explain or recommend something on the menu for you, the passion for good food here is unmatched.

The menu is large, they are still constantly tweaking and perfecting it. We struggled to make a choice only because everything sounded so good! We started with a couple entrees, neither came with a sauce because they shine on their own. The Jalapeño Poppers were deliciously saucy and the Chicken Bites with Chilli Sour were crunchy and flavoursome (it is their own secret recipe better than any KFC you’ve tried).

Onto the burgers, The Hungry will tick all the boxes. Perfectly layered and you can taste every ingredient. The Mexican you get that crunch from the corn chips and heat from the jalapeños. We loved the brioche buns used and that neither of the burgers were greasy or messy, afterwards we didn’t feel we had just eaten something unhealthy. To pair with your burgers you must get the Fat Cut Chips with Gravy, honestly it’s the best.

Couldn’t rave about Brüger more, already wondering when we can visit next. Being around the corner from home, I’m betting soon.

Coffee is ordinary and $5 for the privilege. The take away ‘large ‘size is in one of those resized cups which is basically a small cup that has been stretched. Bruger are one of many cafes who do this and I wouldn’t mind if coffee was good. Staff were friendly was the only plus.

Have tried to give this place a decent go and leave every time disappointed. Food is nearly always cold, possibly because it is served on cold plates and then placed on a polished concrete table which is also cold. Coffee is average, and again goes cold very quickly. Way better options in the local area.

Good coffee, nice vibe. Bircher is outstanding. Losing a star as they were out of Bircher argh!
