Brotherhood of St Laurence reviews
34Shopped here again recently and had an amazing experience. Great music playing whilst I shopped, huge variety of items, good prices and the staff were very friendly and helpful. One of the best op shops in Melbourne. I live on the other side of the city and it's always worth the visit!
For a place that should be promoting inclusiveness and kindness, we were met with none of those values. The staff and patrons met us with cold eyes and responded to us in a dismissive tone. It’s shameful an institution like this hires and promotes racism
Great warehouse style op shop to check out if you're into vintage clothes. Some items are overpriced esp on the "something special" racks where branded and vintage clothes are located though other clothes are reasonably priced - below $10. I do love checking this op shop out when I'm in the Brunswick area though last time I visited, I wasn't impressed with the customer service. I picked up a little bag I wanted to buy and found out it wasn't for sale - I did not see the "Not for sale" sign and if I had seen it I would have left it. I didn't like the volunteer's attitude and the way she spoke down on me, trying to make me feel horrible for doing that. Also I dont understand why this op shop puts items for display that are not for sale but then sells these items the following day or week? This is probably the first and only op shop I've been to that does this? Also just be mindful and always ask what prices are at the counter if unsure because that same rude volunteer tried to overcharge - $20 for a dress that was on the $9 dresses rack. Despite the one -off rude volunteer, I will continue to shop here as I've always walked out with great items and bargains. I did enjoy the 90s dance music played in the background which made op shopping fun the last time I was here.
Turned the lights off immediately after announcing 15 minutes left, so we couldn't see any of the books we were looking at. Also charging too much nowadays.
I really enjoy having a look through this op shop, but I just have one bit of feedback and I really don’t mean to cause any offence - The last few times I’ve been there they’ve always had jazz music playing in the background and to put it mildly I’m not a fan of jazz and can’t handle staying for long. It would be great to hear a few other genres every so often)
Thank you for the huge variety of clothing)
Always seem to get overcharged for things.
I got a $1 book from the $1 section. And was told it was $2! Despite it had a $1 sticker on it.
The volunteer said someone must have changed the sticker and the book should be under the cooking section! She could have honoured the $1. But didn't.
One other time I got a pair of salt & pepper shakers that were $2 for the pair, and was told it wasn't a pair and they were $2 each!
A large BSL with lots of clothes, furniture, housewares, & books. The volunteer workers are friendly and hardworking. Our go-to Op Shop.
Ok op shop but with pretty good prices. All the stuff was kind of dated but we got what we came for. Over all a 3 star rating. Pretty mid
It's huge in a convenient location with a large section of clothes, homewares, etc.however there's a significant markup on items deemed "special" or good-quality brands such as Dickies.my family depended on op shops for all our goods and we wouldn't have been able to purchase at these prices when i was young.i completely understand asking the "regular customer" for that price but offering it at a reasonable rate to those in need is a good idea.it's devastating that the very people who need these services are being priced out of them.i'd recommend traveling to fawkner salvos etc.
Lots of bargains! Kids clothing $1, so I scored a few bargains there. Friendly staff, neat tidy shop.
The clothes are well organised, and despite there being a huge range, there weren’t many good finds
Accused me of stealing because i had a pair of their shoes in my hand and walked to the back of the store to look at the other racks, rude staff.
Books, toys, clothing, furniture, there's a big abundance of everything in this op shop.
Wow! One of the best, if not the best second hand stores I’ve ever come across! This place has fashionable and basically brand new stuff. I love coming here for bags and purses, shoes, clothes, little useful knick knacks and furniture. And lots of new things coming in constantly. When I moved out as a poor uni student, this place was my saviour.
The winter clothes are quite poor
the little things are absolutely amazing! Got myself some unique antique mug and a 6 dollar suitcase.
The lady who work in check out is quite rude.
There is a great selection of clothes at this OP shop. You'll find many decent brands. Most clothes are priced cheaply ($6-10). There is a special finds section at the front of the store which is a bit more expensive but I've found designer dresses being sold for $30 when they retail new for $600+. Very reasonable.
One of the best second hand shop.
You can find a little bit everything here.
Clothes, books, forniture, cooking utensils

The lady who work in check out is quite rude. After my payment I asked for her if they have any cleaning cloth to borrow so I can wipe the very dirty suitcase. The lady told me “no. Honey look where you are. It’s an op shop and you got what you buy”
Bring treated like that feels like being slapped on face. I’m sure I’m being very polite the whole time. But Really ruined the good time I had here.
This is a great op shop for all items. I walked out with a speaker for $10 and a mint condition Bob Marley Legend CD. Highly recommended!
Absolutely the best op shop in Melbourne hands down, don’t waste time at Salvos etc, everything here is so well priced and huge choice including furniture as well as clothing records books homewares decor frames lamps everything. Staff are absolutely a delight with special shout out to Josie - the best op shop staffer ever!
