Tight site with caravan in tow but diesel and e10 and premium all available on front pumps.
Staff good.
Pricing on petrol spy apps near 20 cents litre less than actual pump price a big negative

What is it with the petrol stations in Castlemaine? I live nearby but even I can see all 3 look as if they were last renovated in 1963 and are being run into the ground both inside and out. They are all crowd and appear disorganised.

$$This is always on the low end or bottom of pricing. Usually the last to go up in the area. The 95ulp is only 8c above the standard price. Way lower than Shell 14c above and Caltex 12c above. So check the prices next time u get petrol as this is cheapest around this area.

Alright look, I've lived in Castlemaine for a while now, I ain't no local of course, but if I hold one memory dear of this town, it is the view circa 2002 from this very service station. The iconic local landmark that was ATHENS FISH AND CHIPPERY. Forgive me BP employee who was excited about another excellent review for the towns best servo, but I need a space to review, remember and reflect on the one they called ATHENS FISH AND CHIPS SHOPS. Let me paint you a picture. It was a great fish and chips shop, but in the way that the Parthenon was a cute cubby. You didn't go there for material sustenance, you went for the experience. Air thick with the hopes and dreams of a generation raised on the belief that the chicko roll would drag this country out of its reputation as a global nonce. You went for storage freezers in the middle of the shop. Weird things in the fridge. You went for the tall guy who worked on Wednesdays who would give you an extra dimmy if you mentioned chicko rolls. I think he legally changed his name to Chicko. You went for the black and white tiles and the cool big M posters. You went because your soul directly required you to do so. Oh, you say, sounds good, I mean, I should check it out right? LISTEN. TO. ME.

THEY. TORE. IT. DOWN.

Like it was a Chicko roll thrown out the window of a 1978 Holden Bingbong, left in crumbs on the road side. A town in pain, Castlemaine, no more Athens, just like that. Who will speak it's name.
They told us it was to make space for an expanded iga. DO THEY SELL FISH AND CHIPS AT ANY, ANY, ANY IGAS? No. This was nearly two decades ago. To this day, while I'm refuelling at this BP, I look across the road at the empty dirt lot where a dream once stood. Weeds growing up from a unofficial parking lot and an official meet-up-spot for local art types. Once I'm full of tears, and my vehicle is full of quality BP fuel products, I put my fuel cap back on and I go inside to pay. I always like to try and discuss ATHENS FISH AND CHIPS SHOP with the BP attendant. Some of them have never heard of it and even asked me to stop bringing it up, gesturing to a freshly laminated sign indicating a No-Talking-About-That-Fish-And-Chips-Shop policy. Not the first store in town to adopt such measures, but the least lenient.
We as a people, are fishing, we are fisherpeoples. We have caught many memories in this net we call experience, we have caught hunger and been fed, we have caught now, we caught a future and we have caught A THENS. Truly missed. The GOAT.
I WILL GIVE AN EXTRA STAR WHEN THE RETURN ATHENS TO ITS FORMER GLORY, PLZ ADD VEGAN OPTIONS.

I always go here, very convenient location and the so-called grumpy staff from another review are extremely friendly when you are courteous towards them. I’ve never witnessed anything but politeness from the staff. I also think it’s a shockingly mean thing to publicly identify an employee by appearance and slander them. How must they feel?

Take forever to turn on the pump as they are always away from the counter.
There is an employee at this place who is a complete grump and does not encourage you to return. (grumpy lady covered in tattoos- if you visit you will know what i mean)

Wouldn't let me get $20 cash out even when I purchased something. I'll be changing to another service station to fill up now

Had a staff member come out and tell me they would not start a pump for me to fill my jerry can as it was not on the ground, despite a customer doing it beside me at that exact moment! Nothing was said to them and they were allowed to finish filling. I understand that there is a rule in place, but it is clearly not the same for everyone.
