Box Hill Miniature Steam Railway Society reviews
22 Great day out with toddlers.
Incredibly busy so expect to wait for tickets and rides.
Absolutely amazing, the queue looked long but they are so efficient it was a 5min wait. Much longer than it looks, my son loved it! Great, friendly volunteers. Will be going every month now.
Great fun for your kids. Volunteers are all great. Wish it was open more than once a month.
Go after lunch for a much shorter (or empty) queue.
Very poorly run. You want a good experience go to Eltham. Waiting in platform 2 for more than 30 mins whilst trains keep going to platform 1. Why? Oh, its a mistake!
It was magical! Such a wonderful place for kids and adults! The volunteers that run and care for the trains are just gorgeous… we’re absolutely lucky to have one closer to the city.
Very poor quality there one man call Rob McCauley who old crump old man who is rude and is not very nice to talk to he scared me
What a wonderful day out. The volunteers are very helpful and keen to share their knowledge. Such of lot of hard work has been put into this "little" station. Thank you for a great experience.
Absolute delight for families with young ones. The team is really kind and helpful to all. Thank you so much to all volunteers and everyone who made the first train ride of our little one special.
Fabulous place to reminisce the olden days train experiences. For young and old folks to enjoy family time together
Awesome place, the fellows running the place are extremely knowledgeable down to the point where and what the coal put in the small steamers is made from.
This place is a treasure hiding in plain sight in Box Hill! I must have passed it so many times over the years and never noticed it. As a family man it's something I knew my son would love and he had a great time. The staff were all lovely, had a good chat whole waiting to depart and shared a few jokes. The setup is pretty cool and is like a miniature scenic route. The ride lasted 9 mins which for the price we paid is dirt cheap, so great value for money. They have a few different types of trains there too which makes it fun for the kids to see them all. Parking was pretty easy even when busy, just go around the back and there's plenty of space. They're located right next to Elgar Oval so I got to take my son for a run around there afterwards. If you've got a young family and live in the South East then this is a must do.
It was closed when I visited the park, but it must be a great experience for the kids. Must be popular with the locals. There is a short walking trail too.
The young and the young at heart can enjoy. It will depend on your luck if there are lines. I have been when there were none and when there were very long lines. Thank you to the rotary Club volunteers who give up their time and effort so we may be able to enjoy this with our families.
Be prepared to wait, especially on public and school holidays, but the wait is well worth it. Remember, cash only.
Great place for children of all ages 2 to 92+. Well organized eith both steam and diesel powered locomotives. There is an area for picnics too.
Great for kids. CLOSED SHOES REQUIRE FOR TRAIN. Parking - allow time - nearby streets are OK. Toilet onsite + playground.
One of the best places to take kids once a month. Very cheap tickets. Hats off to the volunteers who run this! Kids will love this place
This miniature train is really nice but not as large as the diamond valley railway setup. Nice gardens playground etc.
Great work from the volunteers. The park is cool too. Had a good time with kids. Need to check online the riding times before going.
Today my two children went on this minature rail and were burned by the falling debris/ash from the steam train. The drivers couldn't hear them crying and calling to stop and the ash kept falling on them. Despite being shielded by the grown ups supervising them, they ended up with over 10 burns that were deep enough to blister. The driver was not sympathetic when informed at the completion of the ride and merely stated that there was a warning sign to beware of falling debris.
This ride is not safe for children.
