Boulder Lab reviews
36Good gym, grungier than Clayton, spray wall is a great training wall, good upstairs gym space.
Great bouldering gym. Climbs here are varied and well set. Always able to find some fun, technical moves that leave you super satisfied when completed. Nice and clean place too with super friendly staff
I fractured my fibula here. But that was my own fault, it was already fractured, I just fractured it more.
No ropes. 8 levels. Bouldering fun.
For those who don’t know what bouldering is, think of rock climbing without the harness and ropes, on smaller walls or overhanging obstacles and just great fun.
We went here for a “something different” date and had a ball. Both challenging mentally and fitness wise we gave everything up to level 6 a try. The online induction and disclaimer is easy to complete and you just show it to the staff on arrival.
The staff are really cool and give you a great little safety brief, issue you gear and away you go. With two islands and the outer walls covered in coloured climbs you will be able to challenge yourself from beginner to advanced climbers? ️
There are boulder climbs that are easy with big grips and little to no over hang, through to minor grips, grasping with your finger tips and big toe climbs. The lab climb has you leaping from your start position some two metres to your first point (if you’re adventurous give this a go)
You landing / fall is cushioned by big comfortable mats that end up being your rest point after a challenging climb.
Even if you’re a bit scared of heights this is definitely worthwhile for some fun as a single, couple or group. With day passes (literally you have all day to come and to) from around $20 an adult, it is affordable and really cool, challenging fun!
I didn’t get any photos this time but will grab some at the next climb.
Great climbing place, friendly staff. Really enjoy the variety between Clayton and Ferntree Gully. Love the middle section as well.
I had a lot of fun at Boulder Lab! I'll definitely be going again. Friendly staff and the set up is great. Change rooms/toilets were very well kept and for the ladies area they even had hygiene products stocked for you just in case, which is very thoughtful. I am relatively out of shape but working on it and I was still able to do the climbs 1-3 and nearly made it to the end of a 4 but my arms had had enough lol. I highly recommend this place for a good workout or just a fun afternoon with some friends.
Great venue, good staff, clean and has plenty of varied skill sets and routes for everyone. Even if you've never climbed before you will have fun.
Always have a great time. Challenging routes regularly reset. Amazing staff and a welcoming vibe!
Great gym, friendly staff.
Limited parking, but easy to find.
Great hours, opens early, closes late.
Dog friendly is always good.
12+ age limit is good so you don't land on kids running around.
Aircon, the best.
This gym is quite small but surprisingly jam packed with heaps boulders. Regular setting means there's always new climbs to work on.
It can get uncomfortably busy there on weekends being a small gym with not a lot of floor space.
Unfortunately the concept wall was never finished (missing holds) making it pretty much useless.
Upstairs training gym is pretty good, (enough space for 4 people at once and 5+ in the yoga area) just needs a couple of fans.
If you like climbing inside then this place is for you. Because it has places to climb inside and Also staff are the best!
Everything is great about this facility except the problems aren't interesting. Just very juggy and ladder-like. Seems that the whole difference in difficulty is just down to strength, not many problems there are very technical as far as I could tell.
I came here to climb on plastic rocks, and Boi was I impressed. They had them in many colours and shapes. Also very lovely workers Sam and Lana. 5 stars.
Variety of different climbs and big open space along with friendly staff, what more can you ask for?
Large space and airy. Large bouldering surface area with many different angles. Good routes with many variety of styles. Nice vibe and friendly staff.
First-time bouldering was a blast. Friendly staff, good facilities and fantastic routesetting. Not that cheap but you can't have everything.
These gyms are huge, with a a wide variety of different routes at various difficulties. I found that even as a beginner there were lots of routes for me to choose from and that the transition to harder routes as I got more confident was smooth. The atmosphere was chill and the music good. Staff were very friendly.
Positive: Great variety in boulder problems, Styles, textures. Hangboards, spray wall and gym present. Clean and tidy. Friendly staff and visitors. Dogs allowed +infinite respect.
Could do without: don't love the grading system of 1-10, V-system is a bit more standard and should probably be used. Though I can why they use 1-10 and it gives a great feeling of progression. Grades are a bit variable as well, though this may be down to style and my weak points.
Really nice bouldering gym, staff were friendly & I like how spacious & clean the facility is.
Staff were really friendly and the place was massive! Ideally would have some easier climbs. Pretty pricey but that's standard and student discount is much appreciated.
Has basically everything you want in a climbing gym. Flat, overhang, incline and slab walls. Campus board, hang boards, practice wall and some things I don’t even know the name for. Also has a small upstairs strength training area.
