Bonsai Bali Chinese & Indonesian Cuisine reviews
33We've ordered takeaway from here before but decided to go into the restaurant last night and everything we ordered was delicious. Will definitely be in again to dine in or takeaway. Best wontons in Melbourne!
Have had a few excellent experiences dining in and taking away. Lovely food and lovely staff.
Awesome food. Serving is generous with ingredients with all the dishes. Service is prompt and courteous. The soup is so tasty and warm my whole family on this cold wet winter nights. Highly recommended. Will come again.
Loved the hospitality! The lady at the reception kept a table ready for the four of us as we called before coming. Service was very quick. Servings were decent proportion.
Entre - The steamed prawn dumplings with smoky flavored soy sauce was out of this world! Must try!
Main
1. Gong Bao chicken at this place in not Chinese spicy/hot Kung Pao Chicken. Gong Bao is way sweeter. That's one thing I wish there was less. Sweetness.
2. Sweet & Sour Veg: The sauce with streamed veg was again - very sweet
3. Beef Rendang: Swimming in coconut milk, not the spice heavy dark brown spicy Beef Rendang you find in Malaysian restaurants. This one is way sweeter and lot less spicy. May appeal to European palette.
Have only had it as take out, but just the delish treat you want on your Wednesday and the people who greeted me were nice!
Bonsai Bali is one of those amazing rare finds of the Hills. Tucked away in a little corner of Tacoma (Dandenong Ranges) it's unassuming exterior hides a beautifully decorated interior with a lovely green panoramic view of the forest that backs onto the restaurant. The staff are all incredibly friendly especially the chief waiter DD, who is always going above and beyond to bring us fine dining experience at a fraction of the cost.
The menu is good, but it is the off the menu items that are really incredible. If you are looking for a cheap eat, the menu is perfectly fine. But if you are looking for something to really impress your dinner guest, you must speak to DD about a specially personalised catered menu for your experience.
In summery, physical location scores a 8 out of 10, wait staff and kitchen crew scores 10 out of 10 and the food 10 out of 10.
If this restaurant and it's staff can impress my mum, it will definitely impress you.
Ordered over the phone to receive the most inauthentic and flavourless 'Chinese' food I have ever attempted to eat. And, expensive for the serving you get. Normally, I would get a restaurant a 'second chance' but def not in this case.
Three of us walked in 15 minutes before closing, the staff were very friendly and went above and beyond to accommodate us. The Plat Besi Ayam and Gulai prawns were absolutely delicious. My first time here but won't be my last
We have been coming here for takeaway noodles for a number of years and have been extremely happy with the service and food. Tonight was an unfortunate turnaround - the usual 5-10 minute wait became 35 mins and the food was over cooked and tasteless. Not sure if management has changed, but hope it can be what it was again.
Had my birthday here and it was so fun, they had great food and great atmosphere, would eat here again.
Forgot rice with the order and was then left on hold for up to 5 minutes to try and notify them. Gave up in the end.
One of the best Asian Food in the hills! Indonesian or Chinese, can't be beat up in the hills! Very friendly staff and tasty food. Try there beef rendang and thank me later!
Ordered via menu log. Waited for an hour only to be told they had not received the order as they were having trouble with their internet even though they had confirmed the order. They confirmed again then received a call from the driver to say the restaurant didn't have the capacity to fill the order. Whatever that means. Had to cancel the order and it was now to late to order from somewhere else so no dinner for us. Very unprofessional.
I initially had food from this place a couple of times because they always seem to be open even when there's a power failure or a public holiday or something.
The food's always been good but I decided to have their Beef Rendang last time and was absolutely blown away. I'd had a hankering for Beef Rendang and the place in Upwey was closed for renovation, and I'm so glad I gave Bonsai Bali a go. The spices were just so good, the beef so tender, and it was unashamedly flavoursome. Roti is good, dumplings are good too.
Great to see an authentic place up in the hills. Definitely worth a visit or to grab some goodies on your way home.
Food was great and good pricing. Don’t expect a fancy dining room, but good service and food. Would recommend.
Fantastic phone service, perfect food even with delivery which was also faster then quoted well done guys 5 stars from me.
So lucky to have such consistently high quality food in this area. Hands down best Asian food in the Hills.
Been ordering for years. Everything is good!
Support Local.
Tecoma little secret, and the tastes of indo-China, Bali and Indonesia with a nice drick, a wine or something harder. Great food, great service and really good surrounds.
Easy parking, parking off the main road. Strongly recommend. Went for the photoshoot, spent the rest of the time sampling their delious food.
Ordered wontons, coconut rice, nasi goreng, steamed vegetable, roti and beef rendang. Only recieved 7 of the 8 wontons. I wouldn't bother with them again. Coconut rice ok. Nasi Goreng ok. Vegetables ok. Roti ok. Rendang not a rendang, see photo. More like a beef gravy/curry with very little flavour, a really poor excuse for a rendang.
