5 I entered this store today with my 18 month old nephew (23/11/2020 at around 3pm at The Glen) he was gently touching some items, while I’m watching him and obviously keeping my eye on him to make sure he doesn’t mess with the clothes. There were two ladies working, and one of them very rudely said ‘I don’t want him touching the clothes, they are not for babies’, there was no thank you or please or even a smile and complete disregard to the fact that we were in there for under a minute and that he didn’t do anything, he didn’t mess with anything and I am right there watching him and not even shopping. There is a way to speak to customers, and to people in general. She was condescending, entitled, rude and to be honest I will never enter one of your stores again and will make sure to warn my friends that shop at this store at the Glen to avoid it because there is a lady there who shouldn’t work in customer service and pushes customers away.
I am very angry about this whole situation as I’ve worked in retail for years and never spoke to anyone that way. I have dark brown skin and at this point, I cannot find another reason for the way she spoke other than that she is an entitled white woman who simply assumed my nephew and I will not be careful with the store and items AND deciding to tell me off in a rude way instead of asking nicely. I wouldn’t be angry if she voiced her concern respectfully and I wonder how she would’ve spoken to me if I was a clearly Aussie white person? There is a way to get our points across without being disrespectful or unkind and that lady doesn’t know how to do that.
Beautiful store with genuine helpful staff. Looked after my mum and treated her like a queen. Smells great too! Thank you Helen and staff.
