Visited here two times during my stay in Melbourne and both times have been really good. The trainee staff are friendly and know what they are doing, and if they are unfamiliar or need assistance, the lead barber is there to supervise and make the changes so you leave with a great cut. The haircut takes a bit longer, but this is expected given the circumstances and is overall worth it for the price you pay. Would recommend.

I had my hair cut here for the first time and I absolutely love the results. The trainee that cut my hair was called Mona and she was very friendly and talented. The supervisor who I didn’t catch the name (Linda?) was also very nice and attentive and she checked on the process every few minutes. Overall, they made me feel comfortable and the results looks amazing:) also the price is incredibly reasonable. I got a Wash, cut and blow dry which took about 90 minutes for only $35!

I asked for a fade cut. Haircut was ok, not 100% straight. It was the first time she tried to do a fade. In the end the teacher corrected most of it.
But it's ridiculous that I had to pay $25 for a simple haircut, in a school, from someone who has never done this before. I better went to a professional barber then in stead.
Three years ago I paid here $10, on the website they mentioned now $18 (with the Green Fee incl). I've been going to barber schools all over Australia and the prices vary all the time from free to $10 max.

I attended here today for the 1st time. Obviously was nervous but thought what the hell it’s only hair, good to try something new and the location is so convenient for me. I had a lovely hair dresser Aisha, who checked in with her supervisor regularly before doing anything to my hair (which was reassuring). Everyone took great care of me and were friendly. I am very pleased with my colour, cut, style and treatment. You also feel like you learn a lot as you watch them do other clients and feel a part of the atmosphere as well. All the other clients walked out with great hair too. The supervisors check the work to make sure it’s great before you leave. Took 3.5hrs for my hair, which I think is pretty standard and cost $145 which is an awesome price. If you don’t mind being in a training environment, I highly recommend! After all these are tomorrow’s hairdressers! Thanks everyone especially Aisha!

My go-to place to get an affordable haircut in this expensive city! The students do take quite some time to do the job, but under the supervision of their teachers, I've never had any complaints. It's better to book an appointment prior to visiting this place, although walk-ins are welcome as well. A rustic looking place with all the facilities!

Excellent cutting experience! The barbers here are nice, patient and professional, my barber exactly understands what kind of style I would like to have for my hair and he asks my opinions before and during the cutting process!

Btw it costs nearly one and a half hours to finish the whole process (wash, blow dry and cut), just make sure that you book an appointment in advanced and you are not in a hurry that day, enjoy it!:)

Had a great experience! My hairdresser was lovely and kept me entertained the whole time. It did take a bit longer than normal.

I had a men's cut here on Monday 05/12. My barber was the Teacher at the Academy. I was told they take extra time and care with haircuts as students require attention, however the women who cut my hair couldn't get me out of the chair quick enough. It seems I made the mistake of saying how I think Dan Andrews is a tyrant and the most Marxist/Fascist/Woke Premier in Australia's history (which he is). Now the first thing that should be stamped onto the retina of anyone with a customer service position - especially a Barber is to be professional and not take offense to the political views of their clients. But not this Barber.her demeanour immediately changedl, she became negative (which I could see and feel) and then basically finished my haircut even though I wasn't completely happy with it. I tried to explain what I wasn't happy with, but she ignored me, said "It's 5 O'clock and we're now closed", started walking away and just left me there in the chair. I couldn't believe it. She gave me a bad haircut even though I told her my birthday was in a few days and I had a special dinner. My hair was long as it hadn't been cut in 7 weeks, but all she did was basically clipper around the sides and took almost no hair off the top, leaving the hair on top heavy, unbalanced and difficult to manage. It's so bad that i'm going to have to spend another $40.00 at another barber just to fix up the mess she left.and i'm unemployed an can't afford it. I won't be coming back to this place. Biba Academy is not what is used to be. They only charged me $15.00, but the haircut I got wasn't worth a dime since I have to pay another Barber now to fix it. Don't go here!

Just got home, washed my hair, let it dry and!
I could not be happier with my haircut! It’s exactly what I asked for and everyone was so lovely, I will absolutely be returning here.
Can not believe it only cost $35 for a $135 quality haircut, so happy to have found this fine establishment? ️ THANKS GUYS:)

Go see Troy! He is fantastic and saved my hair who someone else totally ruined. I didn’t have to tell him him much and he understood what I want to be done with my hair. He is an absolute professional and takes care of you 100%. It’s a pleasure getting my hair with Troy and the entire staff is amazing and helpful. Definitely going back again.

Wonderful experience with Paul and his trainee. Paul knew exactly what style I was aiming for with my hair-trim request - even added some more flare to my style I wasn't expecting.

Paul was great with cutting my hair swiftly and with great attention to detail whilst showing his trainee short femme style methods of hair cutting/styling. Paul was very knowledgeable, and I felt really involved in how the haircut looked and took shape. This was honestly the first haircut where it felt like a collaboration and I got a better cut/style than initially expected. Better than any cut I've had in the past! An effortless experience.

I will definitely return!

Thank you Biba!

I don't want to be too negative, but here's my first experience. Just want to put it here as a cautionary tale for anyone considering on trying it out.
Upon arrival after making an appointment for today, I was told that I haven't made an appointment and was told to return later. Which was the okay part since I was happy that I could get a hair cut the same day. When I returned on time later, I waited 30 minutes for my turn. The person was very nice and apologised for the wait. And then the horror started. When describing how I wanted my hair cut, it felt like I wasn't getting my point across despite showing him reference images. And after I did get the point across, he still cut my bangs too short, even though he said it would be at my eye brows (it was much shorter) and it wasn't in the same style as discussed. Though he did a decent job trimming the rest of my hair to shoulder length.
And weirdly he was the only person in the shop? Which meant that he had to step away multiple times while giving me a haircut to pick up the phone. I did read in the other comments that a supervisor would come and check your hair once the trainees are done cutting it. But since no one was in the shop. I just got charged $30 and sent away without another word.
It was a very confusing experience and I feel terrible after my haircut. I hope this will help someone make up their mind on whether to try this place out. But safe to say I won't be returning.

Edit: Thank you for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate it, and thank you for addressing some of my concerns. Please don't worry about the refund, I am happy with the haircut except for the length of the fringe and how choppy it looks, which did not match the reference image at all. The initial length was okay, but it got shorter and choppier as the haircut progressed, so I was upset about the end result.
As for the appointment, I called on Monday early afternoon (1 pm or so) to book it in for the next day and was confirmed that I would be coming in at 12 pm on Tuesday, that's why I was confused as to why I was put down for Monday 12 pm. But it worked out in the end.
And thank you for the greeting when I left, even though I didn't hear it.

One of the best as far as student cuts go. They may take a while but I've never been unsatisfied especially considering how cheap they are. Plus, I can usually call up and head in for an appointment half an hour later.

I go here regularly. This is an academy barber which means there are trainees cutting your hair. You generally pay around $15 and you get what you pay for. In my experience all the barbers have gone well and beyond to make sure my haircut is of impeccable standard, and the “supervisor” checks over it before you leave. I would recommend this place if you’re not in a rush and want a budget haircut.
I would say you get what you pay for, but you get more than that. Fantastic!
