We stayed there for three months and had a great time full of work and great activities like swimming in the lake, hanging at the beach, playing soccer, meeting new people….

The Communication with the owner was super easy and we got picked up at the bus station at our arrival in the late evening. They drove us to the supermarket immediately to get and left us the keys for our own car.

At the next morning, Tony the owner of the hostel, introduced himself and talked to us about different work opportunities. 2 days after our arrival we began to work and made about 350$ per day working on several grape fields. The first week after our arrival, we could not pay our rent on time. Tony was very patient with us and waited for us to pay a whole week.

While working on the fields, he helped us to buy a car, his engineer looked at several cars for us to check that they are working fine and we don´t lose money buying a broken car.

The place was clean and the electrics (fridge, air conditioner,) worked perfectly fine.
We got a cleaning lady provided by tony once a month.

We got our full deposit back when we left the place. Additional we had bought two perfectly working cars with Tonys help and more money we could have thought about before coming to Mildura International Backpackers.

Instead of calling a hostel; I would say it's a nice, big and well located sharehouse (just a couple of minutes from Mc D, Kfc if u want a quick snack and the supermarkets as well). The house runs by a manager who also lives and works (just an another backpacker like us) with all the guests in the house. Tony the owner of the house is also living close by so he is always accessible for taking care of anything related with house. So you feel more like a living in a summer house with bunch of friends. Other than you will be added to in a whatsapp group which you can be updated about things related with works. Most of my works were hourly paid and the works were like picking pumpkin, zucchini.weeding and working in a citrus packing shed. The works related with vine farm could be hourly paid or piece rate but just keep in mind ; to secure your position in a farm or lets say work it is up to you. You need to be willing to work hard.

Before I got there, the owner told me that most of the jobs were hourly paid and to get there on a sunday to start work the next day but we only started work on wednesday.
Most of the farm jobs provided by the hostel are actually piece rate. In 4 days working at a vine I earned 265$.
It's supposed to be a working hostel but if there are no jobs they won't be actively looking for one. So you'll keep paying rent and waiting. For 2 weeks!

The rent is 170 per week and you are also charged between 5 and 10$ for transportation each day to go to work in a dodgy van where one door doesn't open and the seats are moving.

All bedrooms are 170 dollars per week but some are for 4 people, some 6 and some 8.
Triple bunk beds, tiny bedroom, very dirty.
.

The owner advertises jobs on FB for people to go to his hostel. Many people come and go, having wasted money on transportation and rent only to find out that there was actually no work there.

If I were you I would avoid this place.

Pretty disappointed. The told us, we would get a job in 1 week after arrival for sure, and at arriving they told is we would have to wait at least 3-4 weeks. For us it was a scam.

They told us we would get a job for sure
It was a lie.
Not even close. Don't go there.

This house became a place of Peace for me for a few months. The setting is quiet and relaxing, the rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms and kitchens are well equipped. There is also excellent air-conditioning.

As for the farm work, it is available and it is frequent. However you must be willing to work hard. You cannot expect farm work to be easy anywhere.

The owner of the property (Tony) is a kind individual with a lovely family, he made me feel very welcome during my stay here and I had a great deal of fun spending time with his pet Chickens!

The manager (Phillip) was also excellent and very respectable. He kept the houses tidy and clean through his leadership. Everyone had a job and things were excellently organised.

It is time for me to leave Mildura now, but I'm taking fond memories with me. Enjoy your stay, it'll be a good one.
