Basil House reviews
55Found this little gem High St Preston in Melbourne. To me this restaurant stood out amongst its neighbouring rivals with a welcoming and friendliness feel to it. Service was fast and food fresh and tasty and very reasonably priced. Firstly we were served hot tea followed by entrees of Thai fish cakes and vegetarian springs rolls wrapped with lettuce and sweet chilli sauce and Pad. Thai. We decided to have entrees and main meal all together and chef was happy to accommodate this request. Highly recommend and would return.
Used to have a lot higher quality food now food is of lower quality and even some meats being near completely raw.
On Sunday 2nd July 2023 I went to Basil House and was welcomed in by Long. He was friendly and polite too. My partner ordered Parang beef with Durian Smoothie and I had Stir beef noodles with egg Sauce with an Avocado Smoothie. The food was excellent, value for money as well. Huge shout out to the Chef working and Mai Ling for being friendly, warm and bubbly when we were going to leave. We cannot wait to come back here to eat. We love this place. We’re going to come back again soon. The menu is huge. They also help with the take away boxes if you cannot finish dishes and want to take them home too.
It was in 2009 that I visited Basil house for the first time. My wife and I have been regular patrons for so many years, and have never been disappointed by food or service. Excellent service.food in on your table in less than 10 mins; is always fresh and steaming hot. The free endless tea is yummy. And yes, never forget to request for special sauces that are stored in a corner and are given at request.
I'm a local and I love this place. Really good selection of amazing dishes, all of which they do very well. Plus, it's really good value for money and the staff are super lovely and kind. Can't go wrong with that.
Been here over 100 times for the last 10 yrs. Friendly staff considered I was their regular. But the food always hit and miss. I can order special broken rice, all good no drama. Then came back ordered same dish found they used the pork from previous night to re cook, which made the pork with no taste and turned really hard to chew and eat. Same with all other dishes, like salt pepper chicken spare ribs with rice. One time good then next time overcoated and was eating the coating more than the chicken.
The food was quick to come out and was super fresh and piping hot which is good. The fish cakes were nice, flavourful, but were served with some sweet chilli sauce, which wasn’t the best.
The noodles, although fresh lacked any real flavour. Added some chillies and chilli oil which helped somewhat. Perhaps they do other fines better with a lot more flavour.
We were craving laksa & our favourite place was closed, so hunted around for another local that offered a good laksa. Happy to report that Basil House did the job! The staff were so nice, helpful and accommodating, and our soups were delicious. Will definitely be trying other menu items soon! Thanks guys, and keep up the good work.
I've been here a few times now and every time the food is amazing I'm even tempted to head there right now because thier food is that good. Staff are polite and helpful as well
We have not tried something that bad for a long time. And, if people wonder what I am talking about, I have spent almost 30 years in the South East Asia eating Vietnamese/Thai food.
As usually, whenever ordering from a new restaurant, we pick up familiar/fairly popular dishes so we can see if the restaurant make them right. We ended up ordering 6 dishes totally and saying that every single one of them off the mark is a gentle statement.
The BBH (Vietnamese spicy noddle) is completely wrong. It is really a bow of hot water and chilli oil, completely out of portion with anything else in the boil.the noodle is overcooked to the extent that it keeps breaking when picked up.the ingredient is wrong. There is no herbs, no pork knuckle. The Vietnamese ham is slighly off and start to have bad smell. Really, if the chef follows any recipient he could find online regarding this dish, it will be much better.
I decided not to go into too much details with other dishes. BBH discribed abobe is really a better dish compared to the rest. At least, we can bite out tongue and had half of the it. Some of the rest are untouched.
Dishes were disappointing and lacked flavour. The bun bo hue was basically pho with chilli oil.
I love the food and service here. The staff are so friendly. Food is excellent, fresh and delicious. Great prices too! My regular go to for Vietnamese in Preston!
I absolutely adore this place been coming for a couple years with my partner, its our lucky spot.the food is always on Point, quick service, always a table, owner always remembers us, I know it's just a great feel. Food is great but make sure you're hungry cos the portion sizes are big!
deffs worth your money
enjoys!
Fast and friendly service, and tasty food thats great value for money. Couldn’t fault this place whatsoever! We ordered the spring rolls, chicken w tomato rice, and chilli chicken w rice.
Perfect fresh food sourced from the market next door. Excellent every time and I’ve been going here for 10 years. Not ONE bad meal. How do they do it.
They give you really nice tea and the honey chicken is very good. I swore there was a white frost worm in the drink I had but everyone else couldn't see it so I'm probably just seeing worms again
We have been going to Basil house for years and the food and staff are the best.
You won't get a better meal for the price anywhere.
Highly recommend Basil house
Food is always great. My friends and I call this place "cheap n cheerful" and is our usual Sunday tradition.
My favourite restaurant! Food is beautiful and love their prices even more. Clean inside and staff are lovely. Food always comes out quick which is a bonus!
Unprofessional customer service,
Rude customer service
Poor food quality
Uncooked food and soups,
Using not fresh products
We don’t get chance to eat our food and soups and we just left them on the table and they still charge us fully price big shame I won’t back there
Bad bad bad Food
