Bar Open reviews
21Music (4 Scoops) in downstairs front bar on Friday 6pm is A1. Friendly, even intimate, and comfortable vibe. Highly recommended!
Visited Bar Open as an attendee to Slow Grind. Such an incredible fun night out. Only once a month.
For those asthmatics or those with sensitivity issues or are overstimulated easily, I wouldn't recommend this event.
The bar itself is quaint, fun and has friendly staff!
Two of us came to Bar Open in Fitzroy to enjoy the live music. Upstairs has a small stage for the bands to perform and has a very homely feel to it. The bartender who served us was quite apathetic, but we came for the music and not the drinks, so it didn't affect us. The live music was thoroughly enjoyable, and I would be keen to come here again!
Wonderful place to have a drink or party. Multi places to hang including an outdoor space and upstairs bar space.
Has live bands and events.
Always a winner and open late too.
Every Tuesday night, Make it up Club event is an absolutely appointment to attend.
Impro Avantgarde music
A good bar with a lively music scene. My only (probably biggest) gripe is that as you enter the live music area, you start to notice that room is quite hot. It was getting a bit uncomfortable so I had to run down to the smokers area just to get some cool air. But other than that, there's good vibes here. 4/5
Whilst this may have been a happening place for some, I was made to feel most unwelcome here by the staff and can't relate a positive experience.
I had popped in for a beer after work with some friends and within seconds before I had even had a chance to decide whether I'd like to stay or not, I had some obnoxious bearded hipster yelling at me from behind the bar, referring to me as "dude" in a condescending tone, without any greetings or niceties, and carrying on about signing in to their establishment.
If that is how guests are greeted in the first instance, then you certainly can't purport to be in the hospitality game. I should have known better, coming in all clean shaven, showing my eastern suburbs privilege of bothering to be gainfully employed by wearing my work uniform under my jacket instead of pants that are 8 sizes too thin with the crutch somewhere around my knees. I guess I also wasn't tattooed with the logo of the Australian Greens, a prerequisite for entry to most similar establishments along this strip. Lord please strike me down with lightning if I should ever even consider going back to this dark, dingy den of exclusivity.
Great place w loads of yum vibes. Great range of drinks and always has good things on musically!
Slow Grind Fever is excellent and I've never experienced anything like it, but also thank you to Heath, who is a top tier legend. May Bar Open's days and nights be long, fruitful and prosperous.
Dive bar of the highest regard. No frills and that's the way this kinda place should be. Some really cool decor throughout and a good vibe
Too expensive for a dive bar, let alone any bar. 11 bucks for a pot of beer. At least the staff and atmosphere are ok.
If you are from Sydney, and you remember being punk in Newtown before it was famous, long before it was ruined by lock out laws and nanny state inducted bouncers, come here to feel free again! Free to have a drink and listen to punk music without being bothered by anyone! Without being treated like cattle and moved from paddock to paddock at the will of some derranged farmer who is - in the end- thinking only about eating you. The sign of rules on the wall- is nothing compared to the straight jacket of sydneys nightlife.
Loved the Gypsie night band groups that played, only disappointment no hand wash soap in the toilets.
Bar Open is a ok venue. Seems that who runs the place don't care much about the potential that could have. Bands room sounds nice but the design and development seems really left since the early days.
Lovely little place in Fitzroy, love the live gigs here - Hallowed Horns were an absolute winner on Saturday that we were there.
Made my friend clean up her broken glass and then told my other friend that he couldn't wear his lovely Sombrero
The bar was good however the audio in the bandroom should be monitored. The levels seemed way off and potentially dangerous to the ears. Otherwise enjoyable.
What an absolute hole of a bar. Only thing it’s got going for it is that it’s open late, hence the name.
A lovely venue for old school music. The beer could help from an upgrade but the music is bar none. Keep up the good work
Thinking of going on a date? Or wanna here some music while enjoying your food? Try this place, 4 stars cuz the menu don't have many options to eat.
