Bar Liberty

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne. The food is always amazing and the wines are always perfection. Service is always outstanding. Came here for our anniversary tonight but never need an occasion visit. Highly recommended to absolutely everyone.

From bread with cultured cream to handmade potato dumplings uuuuuh sooo good. The bar staff also create a really nice environment. Will be back with an empty stomach to eat waaaaaay more of this delicious food.

We visited on Sunday for their set menu. Loved the flat bread and cacio pepe potatoes.
Atmosphere was homey and almost felt like we were having lunch at a friend’s house.
Would highly recommend!

Very cool spot! Really considered wine list backed up with staff who know what the go is. Snacks over the bar were delicious. This one is staying on the list.

We had the best night. Food and service were perfect!
Our waitress Jacquie (not sure if spelt right) was absolutely amazing, very attentive, funny, sweet and the perfect amount of interactions.
The food was great from start to finish! The flat bread hands down the best I had!
I love the fact that is a house adapted to a restaurant, makes the atmosphere very nice and cozy
The wine by the glass (Granache from Languedoc FR) was incredible!

Very cool restaurant with innovative modern food. Service is professional but friendly. Bar Liberty holds its own in a very competitive Melbourne restaurant scene.

Lovely experience again at Bar Liberty, this time as a group of 8 for a celebratory dinner in their upstairs private dining area. Food and drinks were great but the best part for us is the service. Knowledgeable staff who set up the room to meet our requirements for low noise to suit some of our group. Perfect hospitality.

The produce is good quality but the overall dishes left us wanting. Not sure for what - flavour, texture - something! The bar is nice and the service great.

One of the best meals I’ve had in a while. Not a single dish missed. That flatbread is undefeated. The bread miso noodle was INCREDIBLE. 10/10!

Great spot for a date night. Quality food and wide range of drinks, had the feed me here and loved it. Only slight complaint is I probably could’ve had a little more food, but I eat way more than the average person so for most it would be more than enough! Paid $200 for dinner and drinks for 2.

Get the amazake! Best dish I ate on my Melbourne trip! Just all round great food, wine and service!

Bar Liberty has been one of those restaurants that I have been seeing on everyone’s Instagram and hence have been wanting to visit, so when we finally booked to go I was very excited.

The food was absolutely fantastic, I could not fault it. Everything dish we had was delicate, adventurous and left you wanting more.

The drinks were also delicious, I was happy with my rose/orange wine mixture, which was very drinkable.

The vibe/decor/setting is very Melbourne so I won’t go on about that.

The staff were lovely, bubbly and a bit of fun. Happy to have a chat with us and clearly very passionate about the food and wine which is always great to see.

The only downsides for me were the portion sizes. The wine sizes felt a little ‘low tied’ but I am happy to omit this light critique as the glasses were huge and the contents of the glasses were delicious so maybe just a bit of an illusion. The food portions were however a little small for the price, not a big deal as I love supporting places like this and the food was phenomenal but just a consideration.

Overall I couldn’t recommend Bar Liberty enough. It doesn’t disappoint and I definitely will be returning.

Great wine selection. Great service. And the food, satisfied with every single dish we ordered. Will definitely come back.

Had an absolute blast at Bar Liberty. So many flavors. I had many favorites and could’ve kept eating.

Was really happy that there were so many vegan options when I asked, but slightly disappointed that 3/4 options for the entire/mains were so oily. Still a great dining experience, if not a little loud at times because we were so squashed.
Definitely will come back!

Great night with amazing food & wine - the set menu was perfect and the snapper & steak within that were the highlights. Dark horse was the cabbage dish which was beautiful

Be aware, the reason for the 3 stars was the awkward & cheeky way they take payment & tip. Their eftpos machine makes it hard to not choose a tip option & the staff watches over your shoulder as you pay. Also charged us for sparkling water even though we didn’t ask for it.

Probably would’ve tipped anyway but the way they go about it leaves a bad taste in your mouth…

Bar Liberty has become a bit of a staple. Don’t just stop here for a drink though— the kitchen consistently puts out interesting and delicious food which beautifully complements the excellent wine curation.

If you’d caught me as I exited Liberty on Tuesday night, you’d be convinced my group had just watched a Hollywood blockbuster and were excitedly trading movie highlights all the way home. But the beautifully humble bar Liberty in Fitzroy doesn’t show movies. What it does do is remind me how lucky we are to have them here.

Maybe it’s the fact that COVID’s relentless aftermath has kept me from this place for almost two years and I’d previously taken its evolution for granted? Or perhaps, as we all agreed when we got home happy, alive and overwhelmed - that maybe they have spent lockdown experimenting past the point of no return. What we ate was honestly some of the most exceptional exciting cooking we’ve ever had. Unrestrained and understated, this could well have evolved into one of Australians greatest dining experiences. WOW.
