Bakery Hill Distillery reviews
13Great tour - David and team have done an exemplary job on their tour debunking myths and educating along the way. I like my whisky and I know a reasonable amount about the processes, however I enjoyed learning some new things along the tasting journey. Week worth the visit.
What a wonderful whisky tasting tour. We booked the tour for 2 friends 30th birthday presents and everyone loved it. Would highly recommend!
Fantastic tour run by passionate people doing what they love extremely well. Would definitely recommend.
Hunting for a distillery tour post-lockdown, I've had Bakery Hill in my sights for a while. My partner and I arrived to a taste of their London-style gin, which was drinkable and delicious in its simplicity, a foreword for the amazing spirits we were about to taste.
The tour was informative, entertaining, and fun. We were treated to Bakery Hill's history, promises of a new warehouse and experience in Melbourne's northwest, and a riveting overview of how they make their whisky. The gathering was intimate enough for a number of questions to be answered, the space filled with all sorts of equipment for milling, mashing, and fermentation, including oak barrels and a copper still -all of it lending the whisky a strong sense of origin and place. We enjoyed every story and anecdote with a sip.
I can't believe I haven't tasted their core range, which is incredible, especially for lovers of Speyside. It's a mix of non-peated, peated, and cask strength selections that speak of a deep and abiding love for the craft, with a distinct flavour that sang through the entire range. Their whisky is very much like meeting old, well-liked friends, dressed in different styles -the unmistakable just-right sweetness, vanilla, and fruit a refreshing and delicious thread across all their bottles.
I am thoroughly impressed by this local outfit of passionate producers. They collaborate with other local businesses and are willing to experiment outside of (and on the foundations of) a truly solid and impressive spirit. Their commitment to making excellent, consistent whisky is apparent in every glass.
We can't wait to visit them again and to bring our friends. What an amazing journey of sight, taste, and smell from a distillery that should make any Victorian proud.
Booked a whisky tasting and wasn't disappointed! Local Aussie business that also believes in small/ independent business and also Collab with other Aussie brewers!
Whisky had a very unique taste that is the product of quality not quantity. Definitely go to this and pop into the Public Brewery for a feed afterwards. The family runs the tour and is int mate enough for you to ask questions and learn about whisky & their efforts in Australia. Do not miss!
Discovered this hidden gem after trying their Double Wood whisky at a restaurant in Melbourne. Turned out it was tucked away near my parent's house, so dropped in and David couldn't have been a kinder host. A young producer but they're really onto something.
Excellent craft distillery tour with great insights, tastings and bottle discounts. Highly recommended for anyone interested in whisky, especially small scale, local or craft. Very friendly staff and world class product.
Great whiskey, went on a tour as part of southern whiskey trails, it was very informative and the whiskey tastes great!
I was looking for some good local whisky for a gift for a good friend. After a bit of research I contacted Bakery Hill via their Facebook page. They were very quick to respond and gave me a list of their closest retailers or the option to come in to buy a bottle directly. I ended up going to the distillery and was offered a look around. They were real genuine friendly blokes. Ended up getting the whisky for my mate and something for myself too. Great experience.
Edit: that 'good friend' is now my boyfriend.:)
We booked Bakery Hill for a private tasting at our home and had an absolutely wonderful time! Andrew and Alexis arrived on time, were friendly, easy going, and accommodating. They were professional and very knowledgeable but also casual and fun. They answered all questions and were more than happy to share their knowledge and passion.
It was good to hear the back story of how the business started and even better to meet the people who own, run, and are passionate about what they do. Would highly recommend them for all things whisky and even more so for a private tasting for a truly different experience. Thanks Andrew!
Had a chance to head to bakery hill and experience their distillery tour. It was amazing and we got to learn all about bakery hill with the father and son duo. Loved every moment of it!
I had the privilege of first tasting Bakery Hill while standing beside Dr. Bill Lumsden while he offered David his thoughts about the newest entrant to the Australian scene (MWSoA convention Canberra 1993). A great start has progressed to a beautiful whisky in 15yrs. You just have to try A Wisp of Smoke, the balance is gorgeous.
