Great food the fish in particular, good consistency of batter and crunch and the fish isn't slimy and a good texture to chew through along with a great taste. Definitely recommend.

Hadn't been here for maybe over a year but unfortunately went recently and chips were that over cooked end up given them to the dogs. So disappointed as it wasn't busy either will not be back.

Saturday 23rd sept 2023.1pm. Shop was empty so I was the only customer. I ordered flake, a minimum of chips, 4 potato cakes and 4 fried dim sims. I got home and the dim sims are so undercooked they are almost like jelly, the potato cakes were Luke warm and the flake was undercooked also. Threw the entire thing out.never have I had such undercooked food.

Rude staff, I think they are on crack or something, I would never buy there again, I would not let a pig it it, it's like a back yard mechanic that stuffs everything up, my 5 year old makes better food from her little kitchen she has, food that you can't eat, DISCUSSING

Love coming here, the chick's are awesome, the food is bloody good and they don't charge extra for a clean shop, and relaxed enjoyable atmosphere

The food was good but there was an older lady working with black hair she missed items that I ordered she was being all grumpy swearing slamming things other then that the other people where amazing and the food was excellent

The green plastic strips hanging in the entry to the shop really need to be cleaned! Not a good look for a takeaway food shop. Actually the shop generally would benefit from a freshen up.
There is a professional menu sign above the fryers but there are also bits of paper with pretty ordinary hand written menu items randomly stuck up above the fryers also.
Importantly, the food preparation area was clean, the female staff member was well presented and was very pleasant. She did a lovely job of cooking our fish & chips. The prices are reasonable. I ordered butterfish and the fillet was a decent thickness. We have had fish from other shops where the fillet was very thin and the piece of battered, fried fish was more a thick crust of batter than fish. Not so at Athens Sea Foods. I also didn't have to wait long for our order, but I was there at around 5pm on a Friday. If it was later I would probably ring my order ahead.
If you're looking for takeaway fish & chips give them a try.

Decided to have fish n chips for tea tonight. Very disappointed. My fish was tough, had no taste definitely not fresh and the color was grey and the chips tasted like they were the frozen ones. Normally the food is ok but not this time. As they say fresh is best.

Got Flake and Chips here today and they were a disaster. The Flake was a pre cooked bit of fish reheated in the fryer, dry as hades, old and absolutely no flavour and the chips, well I've never been a fan of cheap frozen chips but when they are served looking bright yellow it becomes even more off putting.

Maybe the biggest tightarses I've ever seen and they let their food get cold

Coldest toughest steak sandwich ever. Had to remove the tough gristle thing they were passing off as stak. Couldn't even cut it let alone bite it. Spent $30 on 3 of them plus chips. Absolutely disgusting. No tea for us

New owner beautiful food. Love everything here always amazing, great burgers, souvlaki, chips. Always cooked well done. My one stop shop everytime im in ballarat witch is most weekends. Love a souv and a milkshake great service lovely team.

Best fish shop in Ballarat not greasy not like some of them, the food is, well drained only soery bever went there years ago.

The lovely people who run this fish 'n' chip shop took over from Tony a while ago. The food is still delish, & is now presented in a white cupboard box/tray inside a white paper bag. I will admit, as much as i liked the food (&service) when Tony had the place, It does taste like the oil is changed more often that Tony changed it. They may even have changed oil brands, I don't know. You can't beat this place for a delicious, good sized piece of flake, a hamburger with the lot (the only way to have a hamburger from a fish 'n' chip shop), a hamburger in batter, calamari or scallops that aren't stringy or chewy, a hot dog in batter, the list goes on. Oh, & of course the chips - they're cooked just right, & aren't oily, nor are they dry&blah. The people that work here are so nice, it's like you're getting service from family.

We've been here quite a few times since the new owners took over a while ago, and the food has always been delicious.their flake would have to be my favourite.my son loves their hamburgers and scallops.staff are always friendly. EFTPOS is availlable.
