Dessie from Assent Migration Lawyers represented me and my family in obtaining permanent residency (186) and has since advised us on a host of issues related to migration.
First and foremost, to be able to assess what is a good migration lawyer, you need to know what bad representation looks like, and boy did we know when we hired Dessie. Our migration agent managed to bury tens of thousands of dollars and years of effort by misunderstanding the rules, and so it was up to Dessie to help clean up the mess.
Her cool and calm demeanour was always a relief (Visas are stressful!) and her effective advise helped bring the process to a successful conclusion at a time when the department was issuing fewer visas than ever, as this was around the time the department scrapped the 457 scheme. In many ways we owe her our permanent residency.
Moving forward, we have encountered a variety of issues- from advise around citizenship, to my wife's parents' retirement visas, and other assorted bureaucratic hurdles. Dessie is always willing to help with advice and a cool head in even the most stressful situations.
