ASMY - Gokula House Meditation & Yoga Centre reviews
12This is a great place to come to. I used to attend regularly for 15 years before I moved out of Victoria. Really nice people offering from their hearts an authentic meditation experience. I thoroughly recommend this place. Namaste!
I visited Melbourne last month and had the great fortune to attend the programs at the Australian School of Meditation and Yoga - Gokula House.
The spiritual Sunday night mantra meditation gathering put on by the volunteers was truly wonderful and not to mention the delicious vegetarian dinner. The evening was amazing and I found the explanation of the history of the center along with the acknowledgment of the traditional practices shared to be respectfully endearing.
I highly recommend anyone and everyone in Melbourne, whether visiting or living there, to attend these programs and experience the benefits of these yoga practices and wisdom.
Thank you for such a welcoming space Gokula House!
I visited a couple months ago and found the practice to be incredibly culturally appropriated. I have grown up attending Kirtans. Found there to be a lack of respect for the culture where the practice originated. I kindly requested the facilitator if he could do a token of acknowledgement next time and talk very briefly of the roots. It was a white man facilitating with his ukelele without any acknowledgement of the spiritual significance kirtan has in its origins. It was a very inauthentic expression of the tradition itself, which I don't think is inappropriate in and of itself, but without acknowledgement of privilege and respect for the tradition, it is simply a white man culturally appropriating. As an Indian I felt very uncomfortable in this space. He did not take my feedback well and said that it does not matter what the history was, only the frequencies of the sound matter. Found this argument very defensive and reductive of the larger historical context of colonization and privilege.
I would not step foot here again.
I am super thrilled to have discovered this center. Absolutely love the variety of yoga classes, each teacher definitely has an individual style and I get something different from each practice. It’s fun to stay for dinner and kirtan when I can and love the Sunday evening gatherings.
Great group of people and I really like the mantra meditation there. Its quite a funky inner city warehouse setting but i love the Sunday nights with the mantras with music and the nice meal. Well done guys on a great event and place.
A relaxed, nurturing yoga experience. I always feel energised and calm afterwards. The atmosphere is inclusive and the space has a lovely energy. I highly recommend this studio for those who are seeking a holistic yoga practice.
Attended a Sunday Kirtan meditation session. The singing/chanting was fun, the vegetarian food was lovely, but I'm really not sure about the talk. In my mind, it needed a bit less negativity/disdain/criticism of "false" teachers and more focus on the good things. Does not compare favourably to the workshop I attended with Gregor Maehle. Space is filled with photos of Hindu deities. Staff/leaders seemed very friendly, though I had no introduction of any sort, so did not feel very at home. I haven't attended a yoga session here so cannot comment on those.
For the past many years I have attended this enchanting, humble centre to meet new spiritual people with similar interest as mine CHANT, the inspirational music brings to me a sense of tranquility re-charges my batteries that I can't stop coming! The centre is universal generous and inexpensive. The Sunday Sadhana Bhakti gathers many people and everyone is welcome. The food is prepare with love and dedication to Krishna a bonus to all. You will enjoy this place even if you only come once!

This is something special. Caring people and a very different style of meditation, not just sitting quietly, but musical. Nice yoga classes too.
I love Gokula House - a chance to escape the hassles of everyday life - and immerse myself in mantra meditation. Sunday evenings are so much fun, with mantras to live music.there is a chance to dance or just chill out to the soothing melodies. The vegetarian meals are a nice treat too.
Gokula is such a spiritual place and everyone is always welcome. I could not recommend this place more ️
I have been going to yoga and chanting here for the past 5 years.
Great yoga instructors and leaders. A generous gathering of like minded people in a supportive and welcoming space.
