Ashburton Fresh Fruit & Vegies

We had a terrible experience here on Christmas Eve eve. Whilst juggling a pram with a 4 week old baby, my husband picked up some strawberries and went to line up at the temporary outdoor counter. The lady very abruptly told him to go line up inside. He made his way around to the cue and went to go throw away his coffee cup at a nearby bin so he had more free hands to pick some things up for me. The same cashier rudely called out to him accusing him of stealing when he was simply trying to dodge the busy crowds to line up. She then whinges to her apprentice that she thought he was stealing even though she knew she was in the wrong! When he eventually got to the front of the line, she didn’t apologise or even acknowledge him. My husband was so polite, and wished her a merry Christmas - her response was “do you want a receipt. ”

Sad to think this lady is so untrusting of her community that she’d think a young couple who are trying to balance everything with a newborn, would steal a $7 punnet of strawberries on Christmas!

I hope the owners read this and consider boosting some sort of staff moral and maybe teaching them some manners. A merry Christmas or a simple polite smile, isn’t hard.

Visiting here is such a joy. The fruit smells so fresh and is presented so well.it just makes you want to buy. It is a real feast for your eyes. Good first class quality fruit and veg, plus a range of deli items that really tempts your taste buds. Really worth visiting, and guarantee you wont leave empty handed.

Excellent quality fruit and veg, and deli ar reasonable prices. Nit as cheap as the supermarket but a much better range and quality. Live coming here for summer fruits!

Over priced - many products (strawberries and beans) are at least twice the cost of the supermarket and the quality is no better.
Check outs take forever and shelf stackers are too often just talking to each other blocking the narrow aisles.

We did a big order of pastries; croissants, danishes & almond croissants. They were all incredibly delicious and had so many compliments on the quality. I placed my order earlier in the week and they were ready first thing on the Sunday morning. So simple and such an easy way to entertain.

Highly recommend this fruit shop, friendly, helpful service and they carry your groceries to your car.

Always ripe avocados, reliably high quality produce, excellent fine foods and unique seasonal range. Top Shelf is a local favourite and the pride of Ashburton Village.

Helpful & friendly staff, who know what I want and 1 of the lovely fellas always askes me if I need more, & dashes out the back to get me as many bunches of greens as I ask for! Truly great service. The produce is of a consistently high quality. I am, however, very disappointed to see Top Shelf staff littering cigarette butts on the ground outside the shop. Cigarette butts wash down gutters into the ocean and are a huge source of plastics pollution. Please ask your staff to bin their butts.

This is one of the best fruit shops. The produce is always top quality, the service is fantastic because staff so helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and good. Recommended to all.

Great range and good quality. I can almost always find what I am looking for here. Good portions of herbs too - they even had chervil

Local shop, with very good quality fruits and vegies, but also high end deli products as well. It's never boring, and a favourite of mine.

Great produce and good staff, but I have to day the new shop configuration is not very efficient at the counter.

Bit expensive but fair enough since the stuff is so fresh, the store has recently had a renovation

I’m a vegetarian and my wife is SO FUSSY when she buys fruit and veg. This place has the best and freshest produce you’ll find anywhere. I know because gorgeous wifey has looked everywhere else around Melb! I prob shouldn’t advertise this place bc their prices will go up. Oh well!

Fact: owners are ex wholesalers and source the freshest produce in Melbourne. If you want fresher you'll have to grow it yourself!
