Shocking Racial Discrimination Over a Jacket at Arc’teryx Melbourne
I never thought a simple shopping trip at the Arc’teryx store in Melbourne would turn into such a nightmare. We’re an Asian family, and what we faced there was just unbelievable, all because of a small mistake with a jacket.
So, here’s the deal: We accidentally placed a jacket in the wrong spot. That’s all. But the reaction from this blonde-haired male white staff member was way out of line. He started throwing racial insults at us like we committed a huge crime. Just because of a misplaced jacket!
This guy was beyond rude. He demanded we leave the store with such hostility. And when we tried to explain, he just got worse, acting physically threatening. We felt really unsafe – I mean, who expects this kind of behavior over a jacket?
This kind of racist treatment is absolutely unacceptable. Mistakes happen, but responding with racial abuse and threats is insane. We were so shocked and upset by the unprofessional and aggressive behavior of this staff member at Arc’teryx.
We want to make sure everyone hears about this. We’re urging Arc’teryx to address this serious issue.
Don’t make mistakes Arc’teryx has great product. But people should think twice before going to this store.
We’re considering what further steps to take, like reaching out to organizations that can help. We’re sharing our story in the hope that Arc’teryx and other retailers ensure their staff understand basic respect and decency, no matter the situation.
No acknowledgement when walked into store. 2 staff members standing and talking to each other. Had to interrupt to ask about a product. Brushed off that question with: We don't have it in stock without offering other options. Had better service at Uniqlo. Appalling service at that price point.
Opposite experience of what most people had in this store. The staff were on their phones and I had to catch their attention twice just to help me with my query. After trying the garments, no one even bothered to ask how the fit went and forgot that they have a customer fitting. They could have easily not notice any shoplifters. Poor staff service overall.
I was served by Emma, who was amazing! I was looking for a jacket for a hike in Vietnam and Emma gave me great advice! They didn’t have the size of the jacket I was after, but Emma was still patient and let me try on other jackets for sizing. Would highly recommend this store!

The customer service from one particular member of staff in the emporium store is atrocious, months ago I had a bad experience where a female store attendant treated us poorly and hadn’t been back since. Today (11 April) I went in to give it another chance and had the same experience with the same staff member, no greeting and no offer for help, when we did ask questions responded in one word ‘No’ and looks with disdain. Shame because it is a great brand but will be shopping elsewhere.
I have been serve by Emma who has been wonderful and amazing regarding my expectations with warmth and sports.
Definitely worth it if you are looking for good quality and warm outfit:)
Read the reviews on bad service. You really have to visit to see the lacklustre service…or lack thereof. At least three to four staff just standing around near the back, on their phones, with zero acknowledgment of customers coming in at all. Zero help in an empty store. Arc’teryx will be better off saving money by not having a brick & mortar store. ️
Shop has awesome stuff. Excellent customer service! Will in particular was super helpful and knowledgeable. I will be getting more of my winter wardrobe from here.
Horrible customer service, they literally take weeks to reply, just don’t get your hopes up if you need them quickly to sort something out. I bought a jacket and needed to cancel because of size, so I contacted them right after I purchased and they said they can’t do anything and I need to get the product and then return it and get refunded. What a horrendous system. I hope I don’t have to deal with this brand ever again in my life.

Would like to thank Max from archeryx for helping me pick out a perfect fit. And understand the layering of jackets. The product it’s self is the best puffer jacket I have ever worn.most jackets you have terrible range of motion in arms but this jacket is an essential.
Well worth the money. Go buy one find out what your missing out on.
