Apollo Recreation Reserve & Camping Ground reviews
71 We spent one night there, and it was our worst night of the trip for us.
A group of young people from the bay next door were partying until 3am and we couldn't sleep, we tried calling the emergency number at reception for someone help us with this, but nothing was done to stop them (because the rules when you book says no noise is allowed after 10pm).
We tried to talk the group into stopping at around 1am, but we were unsuccessful. They continued until 3am and we have a plan to left at 6am
So if you are thinking to stop to rest because of the long drive, it's better to review, as you wouldn't have support if you need something similar.
Toilets are hit and miss depending who's staying.
Poo on toilet seats on final night
Phone not manned. Receptionist not the friendliest. You get given a map and that’s it, no welcome or direction. The campsite is ok. Not the prettiest back drop. Lots of older, some derelict vans. Even next to the river lots of fences falling down. Dog poo right next to our site on arrival. I wouldn’t rush to go back which is a shame. Good location. If warm weather would be fine.
Absolutely shocking, horrid experience - do not camp here. Nowhere except a tiny sign at the entrance (that is very easily missed) does it say no fires. Apparently there are some inside the office (we were told by a very rude staff member while cooking our breakfast), but we were asked to locate the map/booking information inside a safe OUTSIDE the office, so had no reason to enter it. Nowhere on the website, while booking, or on the papers given to us does it say no fires. We understand we aren't allowed to build our own (although you'd have no idea by the lack of signage), but our fire pit is entirely contained and raised off the ground. As we're in a tent and not a caravan, you can imagine how freezing cold it is at night without one. We don't have any way to cook our food either. We have been asked to stop or it will be confiscated. We will be asking for a full refund as it is just not possible for us to stay. Unless you have a caravan, I can't imagine why anyone would want to stay here.
Good but not for someone who likes to camp surrounded by nature and forest. This is more like a caravan park. The facility is fantastic but not to my taste.
Good place, beautiful scenery & River Friendly maintenance staff, lots of activities to do open spaces
Amazing place well worth the visit. Grab a creekside camp-site and try and see a platypus.
Squalid little camp which turns into a quagmire when it rains. Amenities are basic, not clean, and it's overpriced.
Called 5 times throughout the day and left messages to book in. My calls were never returned.
I thought I'd take a punt and showed up but the office was closed without notice and no sign on the door explaining.
Drove through to see if I could park somewhere and just pay them the next day but all the sites were muddy & poorly kept and the amenities were terrible.
Went up the road to Marengo and the service was great (and cheaper somehow).
Was left scrambling around at the end of the day for a place to stay due to their poor management.
They gave us a muddy spot, we got stuck and they didn’t even try to help us. We almost missed our flight, hopefully there were other campers to help us. Amenities were not worth the price. You should probably just park without paying because it will change nothing.
Terrible. Unreasonable and telly rude staff. Don’t know how they even exist. Like at least half the oval free. Just rude, on a long holiday weekend. I was basically told to *uck off.
Sites packed like sardines. Staff unfriendly. Old facilities. Staff decided to close and clean toilets at 9am so no one could use them before they check out. Terms and conditions state one vehicle per site, other guests parking all over the place including in other peoples sites. For a showground that is mostly unmanned it’s too expensive for just it’s location close to the town, even the river doesn’t look very nice, had rubbish floating in it. The BIG4 down the road is a little further from town but has nicer staff, better sea views, food truck and sometimes live music, even saw a koala in the trees there.
We loved it all the way. It was our second year there and to be honest it was a last minute decision. Everything was clean and the staff so polite and there was hot water plenty compared to other parks. From now on will be our destination for longer stays.
Thank you
We were put on a very unlevel piece of ground with old caravans and sheds very untidy and expensive have stayed in much nicer caravan parks for alot less.
Easy online booking, great communication before and during stay. Stayed 3 nights at a riverside site and in that timr saw koalas and caught fish from right by the tent.
Great stop to recharge and shower. Beautiful location to drop caravan and head around town. Look outs are great.
Absolutely amazing. We got here on a bad situation to a fully booked park but the manager of the park was compassionate and found us not 1 but 2 sites so we could get ourselves sorted. Can't say thank you enough for your kindness.
Friendly and helpful staff, great showers and clean facilities, walking distance to beach and pubs/restaurants.
Camped here a few times and always good. The amenities are fine.
The views however are unmatched!
Great place to stay in a good location. Amenities were a little dated but had everything you need, hot water, strong shower pressure and relatively clean. Our only negative was the sites were small (where we were anyway) we felt a little cramped in and there was no toilet paper in the toilets New Years day. 10am check out seems too early as well for a camp site, I understand with cabins as they need to be cleaned. Just a suggestion but maybe check in and check out times need to be pushed out by an hour.
