Ajisai Japanese Restaurant reviews
32 Place just opened and it’s already pathetic.
Salmon sushi barely edible, rice like sand, California rolls tasteless and gross.
Really poor try for such a good location. Won’t go back there when you have an amazing sushi place down the road. (baby Sushi)
Glad to see this restaurant open in Martin St. Most food was good, sashimi was lovely, and pork belly was very tasty- but give the economyaki a miss. Will return.
Nice place. Good food. Slow service but not too slow and friendly. Very reasonable prices for Japanese. Moving to a new location soon.
Since I found Ajisai, it has become my go-to for Japanese food. Not only is it delicious, but there's always quick service and the hostess always remembers me. Highly recommend for those love afforadable and delicious Japanese cuisine.
I’ve been so many times and the food is incredible every time. Super authentic - the same perfection each visit.
Service is pleasant but not rushed, food was so yummy, we all had a great time as the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable.
Awesome sushi for a great price. The sushi tasted great despite being bought at the end of the day.
What follows is my opinion: I ordered sushi for takeaway and the sushi looked and tasted old and not fresh. The seaweed was soggy and crumpled and the contents of the sushi tasted spoiled. I threw it in the bin. Waste of money.
The food is so so. Everything is incredibly salty. We ordered a chicken skewer and it’s so salty that it leaves my mouth with a slight burning feel.
Friendly owner, nice simple restaurant, the food was tasty and prices were good. Would have been good to have some classic Japanese dishes like Ramen, Udon Soup and some Curries. Thank you for the nice experience.
A hidden gem! Really delicious and authentic Japanese food. The teriyaki salmon was fresh and delicious!
A hidden gem with great food, reasonable pricing and byo. The owner Maggie is always accommodating and friendly
This place is lovely, and the service adorable! The scallops, salmon sashimi, nasu dengaku. Absolutely amazing!
Been coming here for years, suddenly terms have changed! Now there's a minimum spend and no split bills. Tough luck if you're a table of six. We complained and owner was so rude! With a new modern Japanese restaurant with more food varieties, a little further down the road, this old place will need to up their game.
A Bentleigh institution, still offering a very good range of authentic Japanese cuisine at very moderate prices.
I've only tried the sushi here, they were average at best.
Quite a few ended up in the bin.
One of my favourite restaurants ever always a great experience coming here
The food is all too quality and delicious and you are made to feel so welcome here.
I was really disappointed with this restaurant. The staff seemed bothered and generally in a bad mood towards myself and my other patrons. The food taste was nice but for the price, the serving sizes were an absolute joke. I won't be coming back purely for that reason. Waste of money.
Last night I went for dinner with my elderly father and step mother.
The entre's were delicious.
I have an allergy to sesame so that meant that I couldn't eat everything.
Our mains came out and my father and stepmothers dishes looked great.
Unfortunately mine looked dry and when I tasted it it was very bitter.
My mistake was that I didn't want to create a situation so I didn't say anything, but the beef with ginger tasted terrible. I tried to disguise it with my fathers tempura dipping sauce, but that didn't help.
My stepmother asked how my dinner was, as she noticed that I hadn't eaten very much of it. So I told her it was burnt and very unpleasant.
I then left the table with my father for some time and when I returned my stepmother said that when she mentioned that the dish was overcooked.
The owner said that that is how some people like it.
I then said that it was burnt, but still no apology and we had to PAY FOR IT!
Never again.
Really love this unassuming little gem. Fantastic authentic Japanese food at a very reasonable price-point considering the quality of delicacies served. All dishes well balanced and clean flavoured. Owned and operated by a charming, hard-working, husband and wife team, you'll be hard pressed to find a Japanese restaurant of this quality within a 20km radius. Most customers are local repeat ones who know the proprietors' names. You'll need to book. Don't go if you're up for sludgy heavily bottle sauced numbers. Or are in a rush. It has it's own rhythm and you are well looked after if you have a smidge of patience for the yumminess this duo provides.
