Excellent service and food! Great for the people who wants MYO sushi without sugar in their sushi rice. Definitely worth a try.

A nice cozy Japanese restaurant with a great atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and attentive. A fantastic place for lunch and dinner, really authentic Japanese food. All dishes were so well prepared, fresh and delicious. I especially liked the teriyaki chicken and Unagi Don. I would highly recommend Yamashita to everyone and will visit again.

The freshest sashimi you can find in Tasmania!
Maybe you know Blue Fin tuna are here but never have a chance to taste in in Japanese way.

And Yamashita is the place for you.

Hidden gem! Amazing array of Japanese whiskeys and beers and some kick-arse food pairings. Loved the "Nori Sauce" that came with the chips.

Every part, spectacular. The service. The food and imported alcohol selection. The authentic flavours. The cosy atmosphere. The FOOD.

Also great with catering to sensory requests. Asked to sit away from other customers if possible, as the space is large with hard floors: a nightmare for our half-deaf friend to hear in. They were more than happy to sit us in a cosy spot alone.

This could be Hobart's best kept secret for Japanese dining. It is centrally located with a large comfortable space. Food quality and technique is very good and the menu is regularly refreshed. There is a good range of Japanese beers and drinks and a small but good wine list. BYO bottled wine is also available. Yamashita is a great experience and great value.

Salmon Don was very nice. Hopefully they will have the Foie Gras Salmon Don soon. The yuzu beer was a winner.

The restaurant brought back memories of dining in Japan. The raw beef slices. Deep fried tofu and beef hotpot were all very delicious. They had a great range of Japanese beverages, also. We would go back again. The restaurant is in the centre of the city near all the hotels.

Felt great to have a such nice and warm meal in a freezing night. The beef tataki with yuzu sauce giving a refreshing start, the tender ox tongue don is definitely my favourite, prawn in a teapot caught my attention, and flavor is even better. Definitely recommend!

June 2021. I have no idea why it has taken me so long to try Yamashita Japanese Restaurant. I guess my initial hesitation was due to the fact the main restaurant dining area his hidden at the rear of the space. From the front, it seems deserted and closed. Once inside however, the staff are super courteous, and willing to talk through the menu. Fittout is a little basic, but the meals are divine. Prices are a little higher than I expected, however the quality and quantity are equal. Brilliant new player to the Hobart Restaurant scene.

The restaurant is spacious and the environment is quiet. It's not crowded at noon, so it is a good place for lunch. The food is tasty and exquisite.

Food and service first class. We had the banquet. Delicious.fresh.tasty. Thank you for a great meal.

Amazing experience in Yamashita! Really love their lovely food and pretty restaurant environment! That is the best Japanese food I tasted in Hobart! Strong recommended! It will be a big pity to miss its chicken karaage and gyuton!

Had a lovely lunch/dinner there last Saturday. Wonderful hospitality and excellent food. The oysters and the sashimi we ordered were very fresh (Tassie oysters are just the best!).
Husband also loves the chicken don, chicken was cooked perfectly. Glad that finally there is a decent Japanese restaurant with reasonable price in the city area.
Can't wait to return!

The food never fails to impress each time we come here for lunch. The meals are well presented and taste amazing. We ordered the unagi rolls today and I could say it is one of the best I've tasted so far! The extra crispy garnish placed on the top of the rolls complements the sushi so well, and it's something I've never seen any other restaurants doing.

Pleasant dining atmosphere and I would definitely come back soon!

NOT RECOMMENDED. The food just looks beautiful but the taste is no good at all. It’s not worthy. The rice was dry and hard. The staff is not very friendly and welcoming. I won’t go there anymore. Bad experience.
