Wheelhouse Apartments Strahan

Fantastic apartment which is clean and comes with a million dollar view of Long Bay.

Apartment is clean and comfortable.

Will require fair bit of maintenance though. Which I hope the business owner will rectify some of those defects as soon as possible once the effects of the past pandemic years is over.

Nice views, bring a sleeping mask (no bedroom curtains or blinds)
several maintenance issues.

Staying in unit 1 in June (the left one).

Issues:
Heat pump need to be serviced or replaced. It makes a very loud whirring, such that you can't enjoy the room with it on.

There was a heater upstairs (a portable heat pump style) however it was broken too. With none of the controls working.
It ran flat out making a huge noise and didn't hear the room.

The apartment really needs 2 or 3 panel heaters installed for quiet and comfortable heating during the winter,
as it is far to cold to not have any heaters.

Downstairs shower is a water saving type with a dodgey control. Trying to adjust it to give warmer water recudes the water pressure which is always bad due to the water saving shower head.

There is no door on the shower causing water to spray outside and dampen the floor around the toilet.

Microwave is situated above the fridge.
Unless you're 1.8+m tall you have to lift your hot items above your head, rather hazardous really especially if it's a bowl soup or something.

The main focus is on the view but the property needs a bit of love and a bit more money for some upgrades.
On the downside the only thing we were put off by it was the BBQ, which wasn't clean at all and it couldn't be used. Such a shame when you have a view like that and also there was no table outside in the little garden overlooking the water.
Otherwise the place is great, you have everything you need for cooking, great shower upstairs.
Also, a place like this without flyscreens? And in the bedroom.upstairs there is a portable aircon and in order to be used one has to take the exhaust hose out the windows, and there is no fly screen as I mentioned earlier.
Maybe and upgrade of the whole place would bring a bit of life in an otherwise nice house with great potential

We stayed at the Wheelhouse Apartments for 2 nights 10/11 June 2021.
What a fantastic location and a view to die for. (That is what the 1 star is for)
We chose your accommodation by its look on-line.

Unfortunately, we were sadly disappointed by the substandard upkeep of the home.
The total cleanliness was abysmal. This accommodation is very tired and in desperate need of renovation.
Starting at the chewed up front door mat which did nothing to prevent entrance of gravel into the property.
The toilet seat in the downstairs bathroom was cracked, I would hate to think how many microbes would be residing there, not to mention any elderly person with fragile skin getting nicked by the split.
No smoke detectors were installed downstairs.
Extra pillows and bed linen were stained and yellowed, the towels were lovely and white.
Beds were uncomfortable.
The spout over the bath is loose.
Light shades over the bed upstairs were damaged and shabby.
General cleanliness in the kitchen was lacking, splash back behind cooktop and extractor was smeary and unclean.
There were only 2 wine glasses, yet we booked for 4 people.
Stale cheap coffee for the machine.
Tea towels being cotton merely skid across the crockery leaving behind moisture.
Windows filmy.
Timber venetians blinds are water stained.
Water was spilt on the bedroom floor and wiped up with a couple of tissues, they were not white after we finished.
Dust and navel fluff in corners and under settee, this was evident when we moved the settee to put it in front of the window and make the most of the view.
We swept this floor on leaving knowing most of the crud picked up was from previous guests.
Paintwork on walls and in high wear areas near the kettle and above the kitchen window was worn down to the wall finishing corner.
Shower had mould in grout, timber on outside of shower is rotting from improper install of the shower screen.
Staircase was creaky and treads were not packed properly creating noise when in use.

If this property comes under the category of a luxury accommodation, then you are sadly deluded.

In all the 4 of us were not happy and paid way over what it was worth.
We can understand this sort of standard from a caravan / cabin park for minimal tariff but certainly not from the likes of this falsely advertised property, costing us $700 for the 2 nights.

We have attached some photos which you may be able to use to solve the many faults this property has.

Fortunately, we are from Tasmania, one would hate to think what international and interstate travellers would gauge from this substandard property.

We did try to resolve this directly with the owner, but have been ignored.

Great position with uninterrupted views of the harbour.
Unfortunately little things around the house need attention which bring the venue down.
Four a 4 star rating it is probably not quite that, but has potential to be a lot higher standard.

Great views but attention to detail is lacking and the house needs serious repairs and maintenance. We were disappointed for the cost and the kitchen equipment is lacking. Coffee machine but no coffee, leaking windows, and worn tired floors. Not to mention the neighbours dog who pooped on the lawn outside our door daily. Very average at best.

Great accommodation. Amazingly relaxing and an amazing view over the bay area. Very clean and all the basic requirements for tea, coffee and cooking including a small BBQ on the deck.

So incredibly beautiful, really well appointed, the views are to die for. Want to live there forever!

No blinds for large windows but who wouldn’t want to wake up to that beautiful view! No issues for us.

Stunning location with views to die for! As for the accommodation there were items that werent up to standard. Cobwebs, filthy bbq, linen looks very old and sad (albeit clean), the stairs creak shockingly, no light in the bathroom. The second bedroom is tiny and we had a white tail spider. Small things that make a difference. For the price it was under par.

5 star views, 5 star price tag, 2 star accomodation, half the lights don’t work, cobwebs inside, filthy under the beds, all in all very disappointing for the best location in Strahan.
Needs A/C upstairs and decent blinds to block out the western sun in the afternoon.
Broken fan upstairs!
All we expect is 5 Star accomodation to go with the price tag.
