West Coast Heritage Centre reviews
63Excellent place to visit to understand West Coast history and development, especially due to mining. Great mineral and rock collection inherited from the old School of Mines.
Much bigger than expected, could have spent much more time than the 2 hours I allowed for. Fascinating collection of minerals. Really loved the restored theatre and Railway display. Definitely worth visiting, you will found much more than you expect.
Wow what a great place, we spent the best part of 2hrs here as a unexpected stop. The heritage centre didn't come up as a place to visit in our searches.
Definitely needs more exposure as its an amazing place and the town of Zeehan has so much history to offer.
A wonderful collection of geology, photos and historic records and items of the west coast.
Just so much to see, well presented. The entry fee may seem a bit steep but it's really worth it and is good for a week, so spend a whole day or drop in over several days in between seeing other sights in the area
Fantastic centre to visit and experience, covering lots of interests, heritage and history.
Worth every cent and every moment
A well curated collection of exhibits relating to the Zeehan and surrounding areas. A bit of something for everyone with an interest in the industry and the way life was. The inclusion of the adjacent buildings (courthouse, police station, Gaiety Theater) adds to the value. A must visit if you're in the area.
Well done to all involved.
Excellent for what it is. Huge amount of history and historical artefacts from the region. Large amounts of geological information and minerals on display. The courthouse is great fun and the theatre is amazing in its sheer size. Outside has lots of machinery to explore including steam trains! A mine 'experience' tops this place off. Gift shop is good too.
Comprehensive museum with old photographs, semi precious rocks, minerals, blacksmith workshop, steam engines, carriages, old machinery and tools, info and displays about mining, old newspaper articles and artefacts, theatre, costumes, artworks, freemasons quarters etc. Plenty to look at and ponder over. Worth the entry fee.
Great museum ($25 for adults), I would highly recommend buying presents for family and friends from their giftshop to support the local Zeehan community (I've attached some gifts I got below, fairly cheap compared to other places in TAS and also supports local artists)
Second time visiting after 7 years ago. It is a good museum that fills in the gaps on the industry and stories of the West Coast. A lot of effort has gone into the set up and there is something for everyone. Well with a visit.
Good museum on the history of Zeehan and surrounding areas.
$25 pp entry (14/11/22) is a bit steep though.
We just walk past to ot due to lack of time.big place to visit one day is not enough to see the whole place.two big trains outside and a coffee track for relaxing
Fantastic place! Advise that you need plenty of time.allow most of a day has large indoor display and larger outdoor section!
So worth the entry fee! So many things to see, ranging from trains, mining equient, mineral displays and historic local photos.
This is a must see in Tas IMO.
The amount of artifacts and information in one museum is just outstanding, it just keeps on going as you look!
A wealth of knowledge on history in the area, a real window into the past. The theater is amazing, mining history is amazing, steam trains, information on early settlers all amazing!
Very cheap for what you get to experience! 10/10
What's are great museum to find a extensive history of the west coast. It has the best photographic history collection, also a great collection of westcoast minerals, non working steams trains and other historical artifacts.
It’s a wealth of information about the history of the town and surrounds. I was hoping to find some information about the Aboriginal history but didn’t find it.
Was $55 for a family or $25 per adult. Even though it’s valid for a week… seriously, who visits and stays in Zeehan for a week anyways? Quite pricey in my opinion as Queenstown has an extensive Galley Museum which I believe is similar, smaller but only $6 entry fee!
Must see
Zeehan the town that was
The museum is set over three street frontage buildings with active displays and another group of back buildings.
Don't miss it
