We stayed in the Humboldt cottage for one night recently. Very pleased with all aspects, spacious secluded outdoor area and very nice interior/ facilities. Really enjoyed a pleasant evening.

This was a wonderful area.
The cabin is clean, fresh and is well appointed with a laundry niche on the verandah and a good sized shower with very nice soft water.
The property is spacious with a flowing river a short walk away.
This is very relaxing and a lovely sound to drop off to sleep with.
Also a nice stable style shelter has been built on the river bank with a pot belly stove and a fire drum to stand around on cool evenings.
The National Park is a few minutes drive away and the Pub there has delicious meals with a good wine list.
My wife and I really enjoyed this cabin and will book again in the future.

The cottage is located on a big property. The key to enter the cottage can be acquired by entering a code on a box. The interior is nice and clean. The garden is big and at night you can see the wildlife.

Excellent accommodation. Beautiful modern interior, very private spot with yard and water access. Good selection of DVDs to play, A+ for the shower and heater Would definitely stay here again

Humble on the outside, superbly appointed inside.fabulous shower, super comfortable beds, quality linen, warm with an uninterrupted view of the towering trees and river, which can easily be heard from the cottage. The wood fire hut by the river is gorgeous. The only minor improvement is the inclusion of either some 'real' coffee for the plunger supplied or a basic nespresso coffee machine. The small amount of instant coffee supplied didn't really match the rest of this quality offering. Being far from shops, it's hopefully a helpful suggestion. Owner was very kind too. Would love to come back!

Such a great place. We only stayed one night but should have arranged for more. It was a last minute decision due to road closures around Cradle Mountain. Should have lit a fire down the BBQ hut that’s for sure!

Absolute bliss! This cottage is set in the most sublime location and has been perfectly appointed by the hosts. One night was not long enough! Definitely one of the nicest places we stayed in Tasmania. Definitely recommended.

This was simply the best experience of wilderness accommodation we have ever experienced. The accommodation was excellent in every respect, but it was its position by the Tyenna River that made our stay so memorable. The unit brings guests right into the heart of the natural wonders of this area; the music of the spectacular river was the constant soundtrack. As the only unit by the river, everything else was quiet. Stunning.

Missed opportunity
I was really looking forward to my stay at The River cottage. Unfortunately, I was double booked which required a considerable effort and change in travel plans. So that this doesn’t happen to other customers I’ve decided to share my experiences.

I booked online with a booking service at 1.54pm. And headed in the direction of the accommodation. Upon arrival at around 5.15pm I found someone was already in the accommodation. That’s over 3 hours later. The lady who was already staying in the accommodation was kind enough to ring Veronica the owner (or caretaker) of the property. Veronica mentioned that she did see my booking under my German email address and claimed that due to a ‚glitch‘ in the system that we would need to pay extra to secure an another one of her available accommodations. Apparently we had only booked for two people. But in the confirmation email which Veronica also receives it had 4 people listed. Additionally this was a the first glitch I’ve experienced in using this online platform in over 6 years.

In the end Veronica would not for fill our original booking. Veronica requested an end to the conversation and hung up.
The kind lady that let me use her phone ask if we managed to get accommodation, she was perplexed that I remained so calm during our phone call - as I didn’t reach a satisfactory conclusion

My request to Veronica would be due to the remote nature of the accommodation to give fore warning to future customers in case of a double booking to save them traveling the extra distance into the accommodation (located on a dead end road) and then back out again once they had found a suitable accommodation alternative.

In our case It was 50km and meal costs came on top of that as my diabetic family member needed to eat around 6pm (at this time we were still looking for an Alternative accommodation), instead of cooking in the kitchen of the accommodation we presumed we were just able to use

Id advise that prospective customers should confirm the accommodation per telephone that was booked online to avoid my situation of Veronica not for filling your requests.

Sleep to the sound of the gentle river flowing by (Dec 2017). Elegant and well appointed. Full kitchen, soft mattress and good deck. Good base for a day trip to Gordon Dam and hike up to "The Needles".

Idyllic location in a cosy cabin, was a wonderful stay out in the wilderness of Tasmania, listening to the river flowing by at night and exploring the local area. There's a lovely charming pub nearby and plenty of stunning views to be had on walks of the surrounding area. Fantastic location for astrophotographers. Recommended!
