The Wharf Bar & Kitchen reviews
37A beautiful location, stunning views and great service! Expected a creamy white garlic sauce with the seafood linguine but it was a tomato base instead. Nevertheless it was delicious. We enjoyed every moment of our time having dinner here.
We decided to dine here at last minute and didn't have a booking. There were people lined up without bookings and thankfully we just made it before the cut off point. We could tell it was going to be amazing as we overheard diners leave and pay whilst we were in line. Their comments were enough for us to stay and wait. The location on the water was spectacular, we dined on the cheese & garlic flat bread and the sweet chilli calamari (OMG to die for). Our mains were the market fish and chips and the seafood linguine. Both were amazing as was the house wine we chose. The service from both Laura and Ella was fantastic and both were very friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this venue and also advise anyone to make a booking during peak tourist times. Thank you and the sweet chilli calamari was the best I have ever eaten.
Unbelievably atrocious experience. After dining here twice during our time in St Helens, the only item we enjoyed were the oysters, which are produced locally by Lease 65. So on our last day in town, we decided to get oysters from the takeaway window. I called in advance to confirm that takeaway would be available until 6: 30 pm, which is also stated on the sign out front. Yet, when I arrived at 6: 20 pm, the takeaway area was locked. I entered the restaurant to inquire, only to be told that the takeaway section had closed early because the restaurant was “fully booked. ”
Reading past reviews, I see other customers have complained about receiving this same nonsensical answer when finding the takeout area closed early, only to be told by GM Issy in reply that they should have asked for a manager. When I did precisely that, the gentleman at the host stand rudely informed he was the owner (Stan) and made no effort whatsoever to assist. I then replied “well Stan, when you get a one star review, you’ll know it’s from me. ” This sent the owner into a blind rage, as he unleashed a slew of expletives in threatening to “flog” me, and he physically chased me out of the restaurant. The episode was so unsettling I reported it to the local St Helens police.
Perhaps Stan was having a bad day, but there is no excuse in the world for a business owner to treat a return customer with such hostility and abuse. Hopefully an apology will follow.
I had possibly the best squid in my life here. They were also really great with gluten free for three coeliacs, with a separate fryer.
The quality of the seafood was next level. Beautiful restaurant right on the water with a great atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and accomodating for our 9 month old. The servings were very generous, we left full and very satisfied. Highly recommend!
Absolutely amazing, the meals were delicious and the shanks are to die for huge in size, the service is by far best in town awesome people to chat to And the cocktails are the best on the coast could not fault this experience would recommend to anyone and everyone
Visiting from Sydney staying in St Helens and read the reviews about dining here. Was not disappointed. My husband had the Seafood linguini and I had the Pork Belly. Wow so tasty and generous size portions. Thankyou for a lovely meal and even better view looking out on the harbour
Highly recommend this gorgeous restaurant. The food is amazing and to top it off the best views to look at whilst enjoying your meal. Stanley the owner was welcoming and friendly. If we ever make it back to St Helens we will definitely eat here again
I'm really not one to make a complaint but for the life of me why shut the take way shop at 6pm when you have 4 couples waiting to put there order in absolutely amazing please explain we all went up town to a beautiful little shop that's served fantastic seafood meals so do yourself go there & the price is much cheaper
Impossible to find a more picturesque, high-quality and immensely strong valued restaurant as The Wharf.
The careful attention to detail, quality of ingredients (in particular the oysters, cocktails and array of seafood) and undoubtable vibe - The Wharf became a perfect staple for us on our trip, and a destination in of itself. We’ll be back.
Shout out to the management who clearly run a harmonious unit of a team - and deliver on an unreal dining experience, start to finish.
Extremely disappointed in the lobster thermidore we had last night. The lobster was over cooked and dry and the sauce was in a single firm piece sitting on top. The dish was Luke warm and tasted like it was precooked and reheated. The cauliflower was delicious as was the chai latte. After spending nearly $200 we were less than impressed. Would not recommend.
Great location and friendly staff, surprised this place doesn't have a higher rating. Solid old fashioned to finish a great meal
This place is great, big portions, especially if you order fish & chip, you get two big fillets a small salad and a decent portion of chips, service was a little slow, but the atmosphere is great so there's no rush.
Dropped in for lunch, what a great decision
Service was friendly and welcoming, food was delicious, cocktails were too. Definitely recommend
Gorgeous restaurant on the wharf with stunning views of the water. The food is amazing quality. From the fresh oysters to the succulent scallops and juicy lobster - amazing fresh food. And the cocktails are on the same level of awesomeness! Staff are friendly and attentive. Highly recommend if passing through the area.
Used to be the best take away fish and chips in St Helens. Now the most expensive sloppy oily fish and potato cakes around.
Beautiful view and great service. Great quality food and reasonable prices.
It’s our go to restaurant
What an experience we had tonight
Firstly wait team - outstanding service well done on our waitress Carly first night
Secondly the cocktails - best Spicy Margarita I’ve tasted (even better than my own)
Finally and most important the food WOW - scallops to start (amazing) then I had the best sticky pork belly EVER and my hubby had half lobster with garlic butter DELICIOUS
Well done Izzy and Stanley on turning this venue around
I can’t recommend this place enough and we are restaurant owners from WA ️
Made to feel welcome on arrival, staff were very attentive throught the evening. Food was excellent. Oysters very fresh, fish cooked beautifully as was the pork. Couldn't find fault with anything.
Excellent service and a beautiful location with amazing value for money. Delicious local seafood, easily my no. 1 favourite on the east coast.
