The Derwent Experience

My family and I booked a day tour to Cradle Mountain from Hobart. We would give Sam and The Derwent Experience 6/5 stars if we could!

Sam is kind, sincere and friendly. He looks out for the group, recommends good food places and even gives us some time to explore a little town during one of our restroom breaks!

Kudos to Sam for driving 6-8 hours to bring us to Cradle Mountain and safely back.

One area of improvement would be to speak through a mic so everyone on the vehicle can hear the commentaries.

Overall, this day tour is our favourite day during our trip to Tasmania! Thank you Sam.

This has been my best tour in my entire life, Sam is really lovely taking care of every detail. It’s admirable that he does this tour from Hobart because it’s very far away, I think it’s excellent value for money, it’s an intense day, it must be tiring for Sam to arrive late every night after the tour, but with all his effort he makes it possible for all of us to enjoy.
Even being far away Sam left us enough time to enjoy that wonderful mountain and its landscapes. I also met wonderful people on this tour with very good vibes. I will never forget this day, thank you Sam for making me and many other people happy. I will be eternally grateful to you.

This was an amazing tour from Hobart to Cradle Mountain (UNESCO). This tour offers the unique experience to visit and hike Cradle Mountain all the way from Hobart without me having to rent and drive on the other side of the road myself. Our guide Sam is knowledgeable about all things Tasmania and maintained a good balance of taking rest stops and getting us to where we wanted to be. Highly recommend The Derwent Experience!

Sam is an absolute pleasure to work with. He has a relaxed, professional approach that meant I could trust his recommendation from the get-go. We took a group of 23 on the Derwent Experience and it was definitely a highlight of the week in Tassie! The Devonshire tea was delicious and so beautifully set out and croquet was great fun. The owners were very personal, they rustled up some gluten free scones in 5-10 mins and even shared their recipes with guests. The waterfall walks were stunning and so peaceful. And the Meadowbank winery tour that Sam had arranged was so ideal. We had the place to ourselves for the afternoon. The owners served wonderful cheese platters with many different wines to try, he took the group on a journey through the tastings and had matched the groups light and fun energy. The lunch was perfect: healthy, homegrown and delicious and Sam added a fun touch of with a quiz to win a magnum of wine. Sam read the group well, giving great commentary and lots of laughs. I would recommend this tour to all ages, Sam can customise and work with you. I hope I will get to book this again. Thank you Sam!

Amazing day out from Hobart! The tour guide Sam was incredibly nice and took us to a great variety of distilleries, wineries and breweries. If you are a fan of wine and drinks I would definitely recommend going on this tour while you're in Tasmania.

Was over the moon to have the opportunity to take a tour from Hobart (the only one) to Cradle Lake and back within a day. Sam was knowledgable of all the little towns we drove through and stopped at & chose great spots to have breakfast and dinner. Once we got to the Dove Lake trail we were able to go at our own pace and on our own which I really valued. Such an amazing experience, would absolutely go on a Derwent experience again.

Getting to Cradle Mountain was so something I wanted from this trip to Tassie, but I was going be based in Hobart. Never fear, Sam is here. A long but awesome day to Cradle Mountain and back to Hobart! Thanks for a great day Sam!

Had a great day with Sam. Great tour with amazing distilleries, wineries and my favourite, two metre tall farmhouse and cider bar. Sam was a great bloke with plenty of stories and knowledge of where to go as well as cool little history telling. Highly recommend if u are down in Hobart

Had our day trip to Cradle Mountain from Hobart with The Derwent Experience recently! It’s incredibly rare to find tours starting from Hobart as most begin from Launceston so we were lucky that Sam’s offering such tours. It was lovely meeting him as well, an incredibly friendly and warm-hearted guy!

Some other reasons why the Derwent Experience is a 10/10:
the van is extremely clean and sleek. Comes with reclining chairs plus USB ports to charge your phones. No portable chargers needed!
food options are amazing! We stopped at Deloraine for both our brunch and dinner - first at Mumma Buzz Cafe then dinner at Empire Hotel.
Sam’s a seasoned and safe driver, so you’re definitely in good hands as he takes you through the winding yet scenic roads towards and back from Cradle Mountain.

Besides the tour to Cradle Mountain, Sam also offers wine-tasting tours if you are up for something fancy.

I didn’t think we’d get the chance to see cradle mountain in our tight schedule but Sam made it possible with his 1 day tour. We loved the drive through the countryside, the walk around dove lake was breathtaking, and the dinner by the fire in the country pub with our new friends on return drive will be remembered for years to come. What a day!

You need to add this tour to your Hobart and Tassie experience. Such a diverse range of local producers to be introduced to, from wines, rums, liqueurs and so much more. Professional and knowledgeable tour guide at it's finest. You'll come back again for sure, next time you're in Hobart and bring your friends and family.

We had an absolutely fabulous time on our first tour in Tassie. Sam was a great tour guide, he was quite insightful about the history of Tasmania and local Artisan Industries as we drove from each place. He was quite flexible in this personalized tour and we really enjoyed it. We highly recommend this tour to other visitors.

Sam chartered us to and from a wedding with many stops along the way to pick up other guests. Nothing was too much trouble and he was cheery and very professional the whole way.
