Do not stay here.my family and i booked to stay a night on our way down to hobart and left after an hour of arriving.the rooms were filthy (hairballs on the floor, sticky toilet seats, dust and hair in the bathroom) and there were sketchy people lingering outside our room door as we entered and left.none of us felt safe in the property and quickly left, the concierge didn’t seem at all surprised as we checked out.i would not stay here as a solo traveller or as part of a group.

STAY AWAY! This is a hostel, not a hotel. Don't be fooled by the pics. I was expecting a beautiful room with an arched window looking at a beautiful church, however what I got was a dingy, tiny room with a tiny window along a long hall of bavkpackers. Was definitely not what was advertised. Looking at other reviews, it appears I'm not the only one

The hotel was ok, what we really appreciated was the kitchen and laundry. I didn't love the bed as it was pretty slopey and too low. The place felt dingy and cheap but it was good for what we needed and we loved having the available laundry etc.

I stayed at the Grand Chancellor next door for a couple of nights but I’m leaving this review here to say that I feel extremely uncomfortable whenever I walked past this hotel - the way the guests looked at me - who always loitered at the front of the hotel, made me extremely uncomfortable. Before you book, please check out the reviews here first. It gives out a cheap unsafe hostel vibe.

Our accommodation in this establishment was booked by a third party and, after reading other's poor reviews (all of which I wholeheartedly endorse as they reflect exactly our experience), I can only assume she did so to punish us for a perceived past wronging. Well, touché, you got us back good!
We checked-in at 6pm, by 6.30pm we agreed we should seek alternate accommodation, come 8.30pm we were happily fleeing to a different establishment (one that despite similar a star rating and a meagre $50 difference per night in cost, was such a significant improvement it is not in the same realm of compare). I have never in my life been happier to blow $150!
This is a hotel of backpacker/hostel quality and vibe. Back in my 20's I would have considered staying there a "worldly" experience, if not a slightly overpriced one, but I cannot recommend strongly enough that families, couples and the slightly more discerning traveller look elsewhere.

Do not stay here, it is a hostel for young men. It is dirty and noisey. The reception is clean and the staff were lovely. That’s where it ends.

The staff at check in was very friendly. It’s definitely a budget accommodation. In future would rather spend a bit extra to go elsewhere. Wasn’t very clean, people everywhere and very loud. The location was great and again - budget stay for last min need of accommodation. Wouldn’t recommend to a friend though.

Please don’t make the same mistake as us and READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE BOOKING! We arrived with average expectations considering the price point, but once we saw our room we were highly disappointed. The room was nothing as pictured online and the cleanliness of the space was nonexistent. We opened the fridge to find long strands of hair, mould on the ceilings of the bathroom and a general musty odour. It looked and smelt as if it hadn’t had a good cleaning service in a long time. We debated staying due to the cost of finding last minute accommodation elsewhere but after reading the reviews online we agreed it wasn’t worth the risk. Especially as two women we felt uncomfortable with the idea of the questionable people loitering around the halls and general lobby area of the hotel. There was the general feeling between us that this wasn’t a place worth staying and risking an unsafe situation occurring, particularly at night. We checked out within the hour and we’re sent a text asking for a 10/10 review of the property. Overall don’t waste your money even stepping foot in the lobby let alone the dirty rooms.

If you had one word to describe the stay, it would be. DISGUSTING. The carpet had blue stains and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned or vacuumed in weeks, mold in the bathroom, the bedding made my family and I very itchy and irritated, very loud people roaming the halls at late hours of the night, it stank like cigarette smoke and dust, clumps of hair randomly scattered, dirt in bedding, screeching and loud slide bathroom door, bathroom looked to not have been cleaned (dirty mirror, walls, etc), very small parking space and there was some random toothbrush in a cupboard. I don't recommend at all and won't come again. Overall dirty.

The hotel looked great from the outside but once inside the smell was unpleasant and there were people loitering in the reception area lounging on chairs talking on their phones loudly, lots of noise coming from some of the common rooms. The carpet on the steps hadn’t been vacuumed in a while nor had the hallways or rooms. The sheets looked dirty with hairs on them, the bathroom fan was so noisy and the room smelled stale. All in all very disappointed but the cafe next door was great as was the Church across the road.

My partner and I booked a ‘Deluxe Queen Sweet’.
The reception seemed tidy (apart from the people asleep on the foyer couches, and loitering around the entry).
Once we walked up the stairs, the smell hit us. It’s hard to explain… it was a wet/mouldy/cigarette stench.
Which was followed by queen bed frames/mattresses sitting against the walls down the hallway.
The room was filthy, the walls and carpet where covered in stains. The room had the same stench from the hallway and we felt instantly uncomfortable. The bathroom was barley useable, and was just as filthy as the room. After a total of 15min and finding another hotel, we left. The reception argued for sometime that there was no issue with the room and it wasn’t dirty.
After some discussion, they agreed to give us back $150.00 of the $200.00 we paid. We strongly suggested to use that $50.00 for cleaning supplies for the room.
DO NOT BELIEVE THE ADVERTISING FOR THIS HOTEL.

What a dump! It was so dirty, dusty and just unkept, the room was beyond revolting. They put my self and two small children next to a group of very loud, large men, and when i expressed that i felt unsafe, they didnt care. Left with in 5 minutes of arriving and refused a refund. Do not stay here, you will regret it. You will be left walking the streets finding clean family accommodation and out of pocket a lot of money.
Worst experience

I had creaky beds, noisy at night and BLOOD STAINS in the BED! This was a horrific stay and I do not recommend you staying here.

Do not trust the pictures on the website! This is not a hotel it is more a hostel. As 2 young women, we felt very unsafe with all the men loitering in the hallways. They played loud music throughout the night and had loud conversations in the hallways. If there was another option, we would not have stayed the night here.

Spoke to both the this hotel and the Grand next door which are affiliated. They sold this place as a boutique hotel, they both did. Upon arrival we found the receptionist exceptional but that was the only positive. This hotel is a horror, seasonal workers have full control and walk around like they own it. The ceiling to one side of the lobby is falling down the stairs were thilthy and then you got to your rooms. They were old dirty and unkept! Between the seasonal workers and the cleaners who were just as suspicious you truly don’t feel safe!
We are trying to get a refund

We had a very pleasant stay, our room was clean and fresh. Awesome views.
The only down was people loitering in the lobby all the time.

Thank you for a lovely visit! The staff James, Chrissy and Leah were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. I loved the history of the hotel and the beautiful church across the road. I also loved the town clock which was comforting and made me feel at home. My room was clean, well sized and very comfortable. The Hotel was close to the beautiful city park and also centrally located to shops, restaurants etc…. I recommend The Cornwall Hotel to anybody travelling who loves history and character in a hotel.

Avoid at all costs! I would rate no stars but it wouldn’t allow it.
We paid for three nights up front and left shortly after arrival due to the state of the place. As soon as we walked into the building it smelt like mould and damp socks. Once we were taken up to our room we discovered stains that looked like blood on the carpet, stains and hair on the pillows, and the door to the bathroom fell off. I opened the cupboard to see if there was any tea and they fell off too! The stench of mould was everywhere and not something you could get use to. It had really bad, dirty, creepy vibes. The woman who took us up to our room even said the building was haunted. Perfect if you want a good night sleep.
The room and building were nothing like what was pictured online when booking.
After we decided we could not stay here, we went down to reception and checked out. The stand in receptionist didn’t know how to refund us or how to log into the computer. She informed me the manager had 22 other refunds he had to process once he got in on Sunday! I have sent emails since asking for our refund and had no response! Shocking place, DO NOT GO THERE! Pay the extra money and go somewhere else.
We stayed at best western afterwards and it was heaven from where we had just come from.

Avoid this place at all costs please!
Don't be fooled by the photos!
Reception area looks okay and cool with all historic photos and signs.
Once you walk upstairs to the rooms, it smells. Cannot describe it but it smells through-out the whole corridor and in the room. The room was filthy!
Carpets had stains and was disgusting, marks on doors, walls and mould in the roof. Very noisy place. Facility and room is very out-dated. It seems like the place isn't taken care of. After reading the reviews of this place, which had similar issues of what we were experiencing. My partner and I didn't even stay the night and left couple of hours after checking in. Not sure if it happens often but the area seems rough. Fair few people whom you would not want to be around stayed at the place. My partner felt frightened by the looks she received from the people who stayed at the place

WORST HOTEL! Please DO NOT GO THERE.
Pictures don’t represent what you booked for and the smell of the place is horrifying. Not to mention our room, the doorknob was half broken, hair on the bed, (dirty carpet almost like blood traces), a window without any fly screen, broken toilet door, mould on the ceiling. Lastly, the people (session workers) were drunk and loud wandering around the reception and outside the building area without shoes. If you want to experience what the fear factor is like (this is the place for it). Checked out straight after seeing the room.
