Excellent value. Well equipped and functional. Relatively high mileage, if you want a newer van pay x2 somewhere else. Staff helpful but not so much small chat.
We explored much of Tasmania during our trip and would use them again and highly recommend them.

Had a lovely trip and very happy! We had a thorough explanation of the camper-van and appreciated there was a lot to get through. The camper-van was very functional and we had no issues. We stayed in campsites and for us were pleased to use their toilets/ shower/ sink. The campervan was old with a decent milage but for me that was reflected in the price. Was thankful to go with someone experienced using a campervans. The service was v helpful at drop off too.

Although some of these reviews are entertaining to read my impression is these are written by people who weren’t very experienced with using with camper-vans and would perhaps have been happier hiring a more expensive motorhome!

The worst experience! An absolute shame that this company associate with Tasmania, as Tasmania is amazing but everything to do with this hire company is NOT!
* Faulty engine lights - immobiliser, oil and door
* Rang 3x on the road for help with no answer or follow up
* Paid EXTRA for table and chairs and they weren’t given to us, found out once we had stopped
* No ladder supplied for top bunk so was inaccessible
* No toilet chemicals so couldn’t be used
* Heater didn’t work
* Supposed to be a new model as advertised on the website - this van had done over 630,000 and the interior was old and mouldy
* Cushions had been well and truly used - left us sleeping on almost nothing and could feel every dent and ridge
* Table and all wood interior were damaged and sharp
* Tape over left indicator signal
Bill was awful to deal with, we expressed our concerns and unhappiness and we were belittled, offered no apologies for incompetence, extremely rude and we left feeling very upset and disrespected

Absolutely great value. I think the negative reviews need to bare in mind that this is significantly cheaper than alternative options so you get what you pay for. We were able to explore so much of Tasmania during our trip and highly recommend it. Bill is also lovely and a very understanding man so a great thanks to him.

This campervan hire was definitely a disappointment in an otherwise great Tassie trip. Here were the issues we faced:

- The van was super old. It had over 660,000km on the odometer (see photo).
- The staff were not that friendly, unhelpful and inflexible. One of them displayed a pretty poor attitude towards another tourist who was from Asia and couldn't speak English that well. They even tried to get us to return the van earlier on our final day than we had agreed to.
- The water storage system onboard was rubbish, we'd run out of water after washing the dishes once. Not sure what the problem was there.
- There was no ample storage for any dry food anywhere in the kitchenette area, so we had to buy baskets and hooks and make some storage ourselves.
- The van is extremely fuel inefficient. We spent hundreds of dollars more on fuel than we were expecting to, and even ran into
bit of trouble in the north-west where the fuel stations are quite far apart.
- Driving in the backcountry with mountainous roads that were wet/icy felt very dangerous. The tires slipped a lot when we were breaking. We had to travel 20-30km/h slower than the speed limit just for safety, so it took us longer to get everywhere and we checked into our accommodation late because of this a couple of times.
- The brake pads overheated on a couple of occasions and filled the cab with a horrible burning smell. We had to pull over to let them cool and then try to limit our breaking while driving downhills (not an easy task in Tasmania).
- The oil light came on halfway through our trip, so we had to spend an hour trying to call roadside assistance (because of course the staff at Tasmania Campers weren't interested in assisting us) and figuring out how to access the engine (it's under the passenger's seat inside the cab) to check and fix the problem ourselves.
- There's also no Bluetooth or smartphone connection to the van's entertainment system, and nowhere to even affix your phone on the dashboard for navigation purposes.
- The upholstery that you sleep on is old and stained. The sheets and bedding did seem clean (that's about the only nice thing I can say about the van). The interior of the van also has exposed rust in places.

I would say if you have tight budget for a campervan, keep in mind that you'll probably spend extra money on fuel if you get this one and those few extra hundred dollars could go towards getting a slightly nicer van from somewhere else that maybe doesn't have the problems listed above.

I would definitely not recommend Tasmania Campers. Don't risk this campervan ruining your trip!

The team were great. Very easy pickup and drop off with the van. We had the Devil High top and it was perfect for our little lap of Tassie. The van got us around with no issues. I felt the costs were reasonable and I was initially drawn to the company because they don’t charge per km after a certain distance. Very reasonable! Thanks again to the team!

Got an older campervan than listed. Probably from 2002, or older. Stick shift that would change out of gear on its own when going up. Leak from somewhere on left window which would soak up part of sleeping area with heavy rain and wind. Pictures look nicer than actual van, so make sure you double check.
The van was delivered to airport, which was nice. Was told this was not ‘routine’.

Where do I start.

Dents everywhere.
Not new as promised on website.
Shower and toilet not to standard size.
No hot water for more than 2 seconds.
Brake lights didn’t work, returned next day to fix.
Switch for battery to work power not working therefore we had no power unless we went into caravan park.
Clothes ruined from black polish put on wheels and bumper to make van look better, not polished properly.
Linen looked disgusting, purchased our own.
Lounge bedding worn out.

That wraps it up.

Had a great experience with these guys. The van had done a lot of miles but everything worked and was very comfortable, and contained everything we needed for our lap of Tassie. Would definitely use them again

Be prepared for old vans with lots of km. First van (650,000km) didn’t start on the third day. Another van was towed to us (700,000). Leaking windows and noisy fridge on the first van. Mould or mould stains on roof of second. Bedding wasn’t washed.
Other than this the van did the job, had decent kitchen facility and space.
Staff were happy to drive us to/from airport.

Where to start. Bill isn't the most enigmatic figure to spearhead the business. Rude and aggressive in his demeanour, flippant and unable to communicate positively with customers. Upon arriving at the airport I gave Bill a call to collect us upon when he informed me that the van we had booked from that evening, had been given to someone else that morning? It wasn't until Bill collected us from the airport did we find out there was, in fact, another van available to us. 'How could that happen? ' I asked.to which a most absurd excuse/reason was offered. 'The guy that turned up said that he knew Paul and its ok, I'll pick his van up for him'. A completely different Paul from myself at a completely different time of the day I said I would pick it up! Bizarre. Anyway didn't start off as a great holiday. We hired a 4+1 berth with toilet and shower.if you can get 4 or 5 people in the van, I'll eat me hat. You need to be a contortionist to get into the shower and when I eventually managed it, the shower didn't work. Going from cold to boiling and back to cold again in a few seconds, then staying cold. Needless to say, a complete waste of time and money for the toilet/shower option. The van had almost 700,000kms on the clock and it looked very well used both inside and out. To say my wife and I were disappointed with the van is a bit of an understatement. I will say, it didn't break down though so that's a good thing. We had a fantastic time in spite of Bill and the van, and will definitely visit Tasmania again.a gorgeous part of the world with so much on offer. I won't, nor would I ever use or recommend Tasmania Campers to anyone. Steer clear, pay the extra and go with a reputable company with newer vans that work as they should, and staff with an inclination of what customer service actually means.
