Sonny reviews
50Got to Sonny a little early (3: 40) and had an absolute ball. From 4 onwards, Al and the team did everything to look after us, from filling our drinks, playing great music, and suggesting food. They were a great team and would highly suggest the menu. The best Hobart meal we have had so far. Thank you so much!
Gorgeous little bar! Perfect for a before-dinner drink. They do have a menu but it's quite small. Record player was working and the vibes were pumping!
Great place, those who know their wine will enjoy. Those who are wanting great atmosphere and want to learn and experience different wines in a chill atmosphere. If in Hobart…get there!
Great food. Exceptional service. Brilliant atmosphere. A must when visiting Hobart. Sensational.
Speechless. Best dining experience in a long time, thank you to everyone working for making it such a great experience. Cannot fault and do not want to! Xox
A mix of old records, new food and delicious wine - what more do you need for a rainy Sunday afternoon? Sonny feeds all your pleasures with delicious snacks to accompany ‘mystery wines’ and a suggestion for aperol before you’ve even sat down, it’s a dangerous combination and not one to miss if you’re in Hobart. Walk-ins only ensures it’s light hearted and fun whilst staying moody and true to the mystery that is Sonny. Well done and will be back again.
Incredible atmosphere and dining experience. We actually got recommended to come here by the manager of a beautiful wine bar in Perth, apparently its reputation is really travelling! The wines were amazing, the food was amazing, and the staff really provided a curated experience with wines that paired well with our food. The energy is upbeat and fun, they were playing disco records at the start of the night and moved on to some Jimmy Hendrix afterward. They don't take bookings, and we heard from some locals that they had never gotten in.
We were there during Dark Mofo so it might not always be this busy, but we showed up right before they opened at 3: 50 on a Friday and there were 30 people lined up. The venue seats perhaps 12. We came back on Sunday a bit earlier and got in by showing up 15 minutes before open. When we left at 6 there was no longer a line but every seat was full, so either show up a bit early or come by a bit later and be ready to wait. Tables seem to move through relatively quickly (we were the slowest table).
Well worth the wait though! Don't miss out!
The best bar in the Bart!
Delicious snacks, oysters shucked to order, great variety of wines and cosy ambience. Highly recommend.
This place is mostly about the vibe. Loved the 1970s and 80s vinyl collection.
The bar snacks were great too. My only note: not enough coffee in the tiramisu.
The best restaurant experience we have ever had!
We got there early because we read reviews, which was a good idea because there was a long line by the time they opened. Staff were warm, friendly and professional, yet felt like they were having a great time. We sat at the bar and got to watch the chef prepare the food next to us. It was intimate and enjoyable. The food was incredible, especially the crab brioche bites (we went back for seconds) and the prosciutto toast. The staff wanted to make sure you had a great time and we didn't feel rushed despite the limited seating and line out the door. Overall an amazing restaurant experience.
Loved it. We wandered in one cold (ish) evening and had a very fine night drinking wine. “Mystery” rose wines for my companions, and a lovely trebbiano for me.
The music was exceptional, and the speakers were set up just perfectly for the space. I would like also to commend Al. He was lovely and friendly.
Ambience was excellent. Definitely recommend. A classy and sophisticated secret in Hobart
Do you like wine bars? If you answered yes, you need to come here. Be forewarned, you may have to wait outside in the cold. Don’t complain, it’s a great place.
A bit of a wait but totally worth it, loved their food and the selection of wine was fantastic!
The atmosphere was really cozy and casual + the owners were very accommodating
Beautiful restaurant. Amazing service, amazing food, super cosy atmosphere. And great music too! Love this place.
Doesn't get any better. Magnificent service. Impeccable food. Great records playing. Heaven.
What an absolutely gorgeous place! It is a tiny gem in Hobart with beautiful drinks, beautiful food and friendly staff. Highly recommend!
YES YES YES! We are so glad we found this little wine bar. It has everything on top of great wine; effortless service, good, simple food, rockin' beats, intimate vibe. Just go and experience it for yourself. Hands down, one of Hobart's best.
This place deserves the high rating. The staff were great, adding to the already fantastic ambience of this little place. Wine selection was interesting and loved the rotation of what’s open and by the glass. Good was brilliant and great snack sized dishes to go with a few glasses of wine - cucumber/anchovies on the bread were a real standout (obviously the sea urchin pasta was brilliant as well).
Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff. Willing to sit down with you and explain the different selection of wines. Much appreciated.
The best meal/night we have had in Tasmania. Cucumber toasts, handmade pasta and the wines.the service, the vibe.everything.
