Ross Female Factory reviews
17Fascinating quick stop for some interesting history, go inside and read about some of the women's past and incarnation in this 'prision'
Was interesting, if you are a curious person wuth a love for history, this should definately be on your to see list.
It may appear barren in overall appearance, but that and layout of information outside and within helps maintain the ambience of conditions in that era. If there was something that could be improved upon, it would be having something written about the place that people could take away and read. That or a dedicated website that provides the history of the women and children who were made to live there.
Gave me clarity to the book I've been reading. What these people went through was shocking.
Very interesting & self-guided tour with information in rooms. Well maintained historical building not far from township.
What a fascinating place this was! We saw the sign for “Female Factory” and our curiosity enticed us inside. Surprised to learn that this was the site for female convicts. I found it really interesting reading all the notice boards positioned outside and inside detailing what life was like for the women that served time here. I loved how the original old wallpaper was partially left on the walls.
Mad as all hell place, it was a great place to film an AMOUNG US vidoes, also the sandwhiches were an esay etswa 6/9, i walked down to the ROSS BRIDGE and it was a beautiful place to jump from, i did hurt me head, but at least im in a wheelchair now.i went back to the factory and picked up my own female, now i have a wife.i would recommand
What a lovely and well presented historical site. To learn so much of the history of the female factory and be able it imagine what an awful life it would have been was fascinating. To see the original wall paper and be able to walk the grounds to see where each of the buildings stood was very interesting. We enjoyed being able to take our time to read and learn and explore the site then wander down to the Ross bridge after. A very interesting afternoon!
An interesting place but not as much to see as I thought. The information signs throughout the yard were interesting and informative though
Interesting place to reflect on how harsh life was for convict women - we have nothing to complain about in comparison!
Fantastic interpretive signage inside one of the old factory buildings. The other buildings were demolished but they have simple and effective methods of showing us what was once there and all the future uses.
Another interesting place to visit in Ross. Took us a bit to find it following signs inserted in the foot path on church street. Walk past the wool centre and the wooden shop, once at the top of the street walk down the uneven path and follow it around to the Female factory. Very interesting inside but could do with a bit of a clean. Lots of dead flies on the window sills.
Perhaps this place highlights the real history of Australia. For many, forced halfway across the world as prisoners. The attraction is a great time walk. It is well worth a visit.
Fascinating in so many ways, how much things have changed, how horrid things were for some people not THAT long ago. Well worth the short detour if you're travelling in the area and appreciate history.
Get the guided tour they realy know the history and well worth it for the additional information that you pick up.
Very hard to grasp that this was part of our history. I think everyone should visit this sad but beautiful place to understand what these poor convict women endured
Its very informative. Gives you a good insite on how the women used to live then. And it's free to enter
