This place is good for the soul. It's rustic and sensitive to the environment but still provides all the amenities and comforts you'd expect. The views of the Hazards to the South-East are breath-taking and the sunsets in the West are equally beautiful. The walking track around the island is full of birdlife and the penguins after dark are magnificent. Well worth a visit.

Picnic Island is an idylic place, a unigue paradise that is a must do experience, remote enough but close enough to mainland. Our family of 8 including 2 children had the perfect get together, the accomodation is very comfortable, well designed for an island and blends in with environment. The days passed quickly with multiple walks around the island to observe the abundant wild life, seals frollicking, abundant bird population, fishing, collecting muscles, rock exploring at low tide, finding the hidden treasure chest hidden in the rocks for the children to find, sitting on the decks with a wine with spectacular scenery, No one read a page of a book, spectacular sunsets, and going out at night to watch and hearing the chatter of the penguins, particularly when they left in the morning, they were nesting behind the rooms. It is an absolutely fabulous place to relax and have quality family time together, We have been to some amazing places around the world, Picnic Island is at the top of the list

A short distance from Coles Bay and you feel like you are a whole world away. The perfect place for Yoga, Meditation, Reading, Relaxing, Fishing, Penguins and much much more. If you are thinking about it don't - just go - you won't regret it!

We had a delightful stay over Easter.

I thought the whole “private Island” thing would be more a novelty than anything else - but actually, it’s so special being there on your own.

The kids loved fishing and snorkelling. My wife and I harvested mussels for dinner too. Great sunsets. And penguins too.

Be mindful the island is off grid - which has its minor challenges. It’s not a 5 star resort - more “eco-luxe”. A really unique experience.

Absolutely incredible experience staying at Picnic Island. Easily the best accommodation spot in Tasmania. Raw, beautiful and incredibly well set up!

A wonderland. Our family of 6 stayed 3 nights, spending a whole day at Freycinet NP (and eating at the Lodge with a water taxi drop off at Hazards and pickup from the lodge, thanks Taz), but otherwise relaxing on this special island. By relaxing, I mean swimming off the jetty, diving for abalone, fishing for flathead, shucking oysters bought from the nearby Marine Farm, reading books, sunset cocktails. And the best was to come at night, with penguin spotting and open fire in the main cabin. We are spoilt, with access to beaches and islands in Qld, but this was magic of a different "cold water" kind. If remoteness, and self sufficiency are a problem, then this may not be for you, but it was perfect for us. Thank you Clem, we loved it and will be back.

We had a wonderful stay on Picnic Island, a secluded tiny island just off the coast of the Freycinet National Park with views on the three peaks.

The whole experience was quite magical even though the weather wasn’t always on our side (which only added to the experience). It started by taking a short water taxi ride from Coles Bay to the island itself, where we had the next few days of absolute exclusion. Well apart from the local penguin community.

We cooked some great dinners, had plenty of wine, saw a beautiful sunset, hung out with the penguins, and fell asleep to the howling wind.

The island comes with five bedrooms and a main living room/kitchen and can host up to ten guests. It’s great for families and groups of friends, and will no doubt be an unforgettable experience.

The communication with our host Clem has been quick & efficient and he made sure we had everything we need to have a comfortable stay.

Thanks for this memorable getaway!

Picnic Island is Paradise. 5 minute water taxi from Coles Bay deposits you on your own private island with all amenities. A deck on each side of the island means you can mange the wind direction, fish, practice yoga or just admire the view of the incredible Hazards - a pink tinged, granite mountain range in the beautiful Freycinet National Park. From Picnic Island you can take a water taxi to Hazards Beach and walk through to Wineglass Bay. Fishing charters also available. The wifi and 5G on the island were faster than I get in Brighton, Melbourne! Also home to a penguin and Shearwater colony so tread carefully. Clem (owner) is very responsive albeit remotely and he and his family have been travelling and holidaying in the region for many years. Sleeps 10. Simply beautiful! Can't wait to go back and sip vino in front of the fire.

My now husband and I had an intimate ceremony on picnic island and we could not have been more thrilled with the island, accommodation and communication. Clem has thought of everything that is on the island, there’s books, games, fishing rods, everything you need to enjoy the space and seclusion. It was such a special time with our family and we will cherish it forever! Anyone looking for a stunning elopement or intimate wedding spot, the privacy and scenery of the island make it an unbeatable choice!

When I first booked Picnic Island, I went around telling everyone I knew how excited I was that I had rented an actual island to stay on. I had no idea how incredible the island would actually be. From the friendly aqua taxi operators to the feeling of having your own island loom before you as you approach, to the fishing off the dock, to the incredible architecture and interior design of the space, to the harvesting of fresh mussels off the buoys, to the fairy penguins visiting at night, to the sound of waves rocking you to sleep, to Clem's hospitality and kindness, I'm gonna have to rate this experience a solid one million out of five.

Oh, also, I proposed to my girlfriend on this island and she said yes. I have no way of knowing if that would have gone differently if we weren't on an incredible island, but it definitely didn't hurt. Book this place. Please keep it in operation, because I will absolutely return someday.

A fantastic spot for a family getaway. This was a surprise weekend away for dad's 60th birthday. Plenty of fishing and muscles, cute little penguins, and lots of good times. I couldn't recommend this place enough; where else do you get your own island for such a good price!

Amazing long weekend with Friends celebrating Australia Day. Arrived to paradise and unloaded supplies before settling in for sundowners. Watched the mutton birds arrive and kids were fascinated as they landed right next to them. Greeted by Dolphins for breakfast and then hunted the rook pools finding hermit crabs, starfish and all manner of shells.
Epic rock stacking competition and snorkelling off the private beach. Saw huge range of fish and kelps snorkelling in clear water with beautiful rocky drop-off at the back of the island.

Awesome rugged island. So close to Coles Bay but feels wonderfully remote. Fabulous bird watching! Stylish, comfortable accommodation.

My girlfriend and I recently spent a week on Picnic Island and absolutely loved it. We both were looking for a great spot to unwind from the busy hustle and bustle and city life. If you haven't been to Freycinet then it is a must see - it's one the most beautiful places on the planet. As for Picnic Island well it's such a relaxing place and really well set up. The highlights (and there were many) was a night walk around the island to see the gorgeous penguins. I can't wait to visit Picnic Island again!

One of the most serene and beautiful spots I have ever visited, hands down. Perfect for a well deserved break when all you need is peace, quiet and a relaxed environment close to nature. Great designer set up, amazing views and comfortable rooms. Penguin colony was definitely a pleasant surprise and a fun bonus! Absolutely loved my stay and I would highly recommend Picnic Island to anyone.

Where else can you sleep in a penguin rookery on your own island? This is going to be one of the best unique nature based tourism experiences in the world when it opens for summer 2016.
