Mount Nelson Signal Station reviews
52Expansive views of horizon. Free Binacoulars. Small Museum (Check out the Oldest Bell Telephone), Nice Cafe, Sitting arrangement for all weather, toilets, parking, short n long bush walks n mountain bike tracks. Incredibly Peaceful.
Enjoyable place to visit to take in some historic pieces and literature.
Good views of Hobart.
Recommend anyone who is in Hobart to visit Mount Nelson lookout. The views are panoramic and the history of the signal station is amazing.
Staggeringly great views. Laid back atmosphere, friendly service, wide range of food and drinks.
My only experience of the station is at night, pic shows view. Apparently there is a bit of history attached to it and the view during rhe day is also quire good, but I've only heard that from the bus driver
Breathtaking scenic spot. Short and easy drive to the top. Plenty of parking space. There is a cafe as well. The view from the top is very nice. There is a small museum as well.
Quite a good place with cafe nearby which is open till 4.
Well mainted as well as have 8 to 10 carpark spaces.
Couldn't see the CBD clearly as there were many trees surrounding the lookout.
But it was very comfortable to sit there and enjoy the good weather
Great spot, free parking and the adjacent cafe has plenty of seating in and out of the cold. Views of the Hobart valley are fantastic.
Try the hot chocolate from the cafe it is worth the wait.
Views in all directions up and down River Derwent, views towards Mt. Wellington, Hobart, Eaglehawk Neck, Port Arthur, Iron Pot,
South Arm Peninsula, Bruny Island.
Ordered take away coffee's and a muffin. Muffin came heated with a side of cream - delicious! Coffee was good, views were spectacular. Fantastic!
The service is personalised, the menu is amazing, Roj ensured we were well looked after. The view is second to none.
Great view of the whole Bay of Hobart. Easy 5-10mins from the city. Steep drive so wouldn't recommend walking.
I don't want to rate this little local knowledge gem, it's totally underrated and perfect without all us tourists knowing about it!
Nice views but in slot of places the trees are blocking the view. Not worth visiting if you intended to go up Wallington.
Mt Wellington was closed when I was in Hobart in Nov 2021 so I came here instead. The bus from the CBD was scenic in its own right but I didn't think the trip was worth any special effort. To the north you can see Hobart City and the Tasman Bridge and to the east is the Derwent but neither is a clear view free of the trees. It was a clear sunny day when I got off the bus but within 10-15mins a snow flurry came through and visibility beyond the treeline was nil - a highlight of my time in Tasmania being from subtropical QLD! Without this unexpected experience I doubt I would think too fondly of Mt Nelson though.
Excellent venue, food and service is top quality. Recommend the Beer battered fish and chips with pickled salad.
Great views and nice coffee shop. Easy drive and free parking. Close to Hobart and within 10 minutes.
Wow this place is great! Not only are the views spectacular, their Fatboy and raspberry muffin was delicious. Nice coffee as well. Definitely going back.
Easy drive from central Hobart to get here, maybe 15mins with traffic. The station itself is a really lovely building and was open for us to have a look inside. Some excellent interpretation that explain the history of signals and their importance in Tasmania. Gardens could be better maintained and would enhance the experience.
It's worth walking down to the lookout, which gives you a nice view over the Tasman bridge.
The views were fantastic, the cafe was open and busy however we didn't go in.
