Montagu Campground reviews
10Best camp site ever, it was a magical place overlooking the water. Lovely friendly caretaker Linda. Up there with one of our best camp sites in Tassie.
Great spot toilets close to a very pretty beach on low tide, quite can view the nut
$13 night good spot
Dan is a very welcoming caretaker and suggested the perfect site for our crew with a Penguin, tent and 4 kayaks. Beautifully protected during a huge easterly blow. Great knowledge on these tricky waters.very clean flushing toilets. Yoga on the jetty-Thanks
Great place, so peaceful, basically we were the only campers so apart from post rain muddiness we couldn't ask for more. Caretaker is a great guy and very helpful.
Probably 4.5 stars if caravan but value for a tent is low as it's too expensive. Flush toilets, plenty of water and a really good ground keeper. No thistles or many weeds. Neat and Tidy and not much mud or sand at my spot. Just to pricey for a tent.
Lovely spot in good weather. Beautiful grassy camping area and super friendly caretaker, Dan. Clean amenities. Great spot to relax
Toilets are clean and the ground is perfect for camping, excellent fishing, and the staff are so helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.
Caretaker Dan and wife Carlye went above and beyond to make us feel welcome at this awesome campground. Beautiful natural setting, good facilities and friendly people. Highly recommend to anyone looking for camping accommodation near Smithton and Stanley.
Generally speaking a nice place however a little on the expensive side toilets provided but for an extra couple of dollars elsewhere you can get water and showers and power not much to do chill out spot only
Nice spot. Trees are welcome. Grassed. Reasonable rates. Good toilets. Only downside was some neighbours who thought they owned the place and could party into the small hours. A bit inconsiderate!
I notice that some say there is no indication of what the rates are. Well I guess they couldn't read the dirty great sign at the entrance. Others complained about the rude caretaker. We missed the sign saying check with the caretaker, just past the fee sign. I was too busy looking for a site. We parked in the wrong spot and the caretaker did come very quickly to sort us out, and yes he did swear at us, but when I thanked him for the information along with pointing out that he didn't have to swear at us and happily followed his directions, he was fine. I guess he gets all sorts.
It is true that there is no beach to speak of. But with the currents the way they are here you wouldn't want to swim anyway. There are tyre swings and plenty of room to ride bikes for the kids.
I have been here during the winter months and it is pretty and empty. Summer is a different story.
As for exorbitant fees. I don't know where some have camped before. For the facilities and setting I have no complaints. $30 a night for an unpowered site at the Smithton caravan park. At least it also has a nice setting and free showers.
I reckon I would call in again if I was down this way.
