McHenry Distillery reviews
53One of my favourite gins and finally visited the distillery. It was a two member team effort on a public holiday and they made the best to keep everything in order. Bakire for money and the cheese platter was exceptional. Highly recommended if you are around port Arthur to visit this hidden gin
Came to try the gin and beer. Great line up of gins and my top pick of the three I tried would be the federation gin. My husband did the beer tasting. The stout was his pick. The only gripe we had was that for $15 for a beer tasting paddle to only get 3 tiny (shot size) glasses it was a bit over priced. Not sure whether the server had made a mistake or not.
A great tour of the distillery by B2. Both fun and educational. The tasting experience was excellent. The Sloe Gin and Federation Gin were our favourites.
Unfortunately this wasn’t a great experience for us. The tastings were expensive and the person serving us seemed like they would rather be anywhere else. The only information we received about the products were very short responses to the questions we asked or a response of ‘I don’t know’. We walked away without making a purchase.
Nice little spot but unfortunately didn’t really enjoy their booze
Scratt enjoyed it tho
We arrived before they opened and the lovely lady setting up was so accommodating. She gave us an early tasting and was very professional and knowledgeable. Can’t wait to get home and make a delicious G&T!
Was a little disappointed with my visit here. Tastings were not complementary and there was no presentation on the 'background or description' of any of the products being offered. I did buy a bottle of barrel aged gin as it extremely easy to drink.
The young girl in charge of the tasting was horrified that I wanted to try all samples neat. Why?
Ignore the poor rated review prior to mine, clearly someone self entitled and can’t work out how to ring the HUGE bell at the cellar door that says “please ring if cellar door unattended”.
Our visit was great, we were greeted by Kane? The brewer and QLD native. We did the gin and whisky tastings. Generous measures and good chat about them all. As a whisky lover and Scotsman, the whisky was great. Cool little distillery, next time I’ll take a tour round. Kane was a good bloke too who was happy to chat away. Great value for tastings. Would recommend.
Young Sam gave us a great service and did so with personality and a smile. Passionate and informative. Pleasurable experience. Fi and Jubes from darwin.
We visited the McHenry Distillery at the end of September 2022 and WOW what an experience!
Besides tastings we were also fortunate enough to have a Gin making masterclass with the owner Bill McHenry.
It was fantastic to learn how gin is made and also how to flavour with botanicals and achieve your perfect blend. Bill really gets you into the spirit of it all!
The gin making class is located at the top of their 2 levelled property……. You travel up this very steep road and pop out at the top where the views are nothing short of breathtaking, not to mention how fresh and clean the air felt!
Bill was telling us that McHenrys Distillery is the only distillery in Tasmania with its own fresh water spring, which makes it very unique and the taste of the gins magnificent.
In addition to gin tasting we also sampled the McHenry aged whisky which were my husband favourites!
All in all a wonderful experience at a magnificent location with a team who are warm and welcoming.
It’s a must to go to if you anywhere near Port Arthur……we certainly plan to return
Spent an hour or two here and it was incredible. Sioban was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate - she guided us through a couple of tasting flights that were spectacular. Being from out of state, will be purchasing our favourites through their website. Marvellous experience thanks to Sioban.
Had an awesome time on a tour with William (owner) who is great to chat to & extremely knowledgeable. Tasting afterwards was awesome too. Beautiful location. Will have to swing by again when next in Port Arthur.
4km trip from Port Arthur was a scam. Finally got there, waited for 15mins, no one was serving. No customer service, just not worth the expense.
Was looking forward to visiting however, the welcoming wasn’t warm. No information provided on the Gins or distillery, just a paddle of mediocre gin with no other info.
Christmas gin is a scam, has no Christmas taste. No taste at all.
There were no tasting notes on the tables at all. Warm tonic water straight off the bench.
Head up the east coast to spring bay or iron house instead, better service and products.
Loved our tasting experience. Damon was so knowledgeable and passionate. The ambiance made for a nice relaxing setting with wonderful gin flavors. (Some brief tasting notes to accompany the tasting board would have helped me remember the insight shared by Damon). So many favourites but the Butterfly Gin got my vote on the day.
Nuce place, cool staff, fantastic Gin and nuce food. It was live music too when we went there. I really liked the ambiance.
Feels more than 4km from Port Arthur on the bike, but well worth the ride:)
Apart from the Gin and whisky they had some great beer there yesterday too - Chivone was most helpful and polite
Great gin with tasting paddle, but needed to buy multiple paddles to taste most. Needs a bigger option to taste all. Also pizza was very nice but small. Worth the trip!
Great service, has x2 gin tasting paddles and a whisky paddle and was hard to pick a favourite.
Their butterfly gin is so much better than the popular “ink gin” McHenrys were the first to actually make this “blue” gin that turns a pinkish colour when mixed with tonic in Australia, however it’s super underrated and much better than Ink gin!
Their federation gin is my other favourite, I love that they infuse botanicals from each state giving it the taste and unique flavour of an authentic Australian gin! Fun fact - one of the only gins used at Parliament House!
Definitely recommend and have bought another bottle!
Went to pop in for a drink. Ended up there for an hour and a half chatting to the sales/events manager. Delicious Gin, beer and Whisky. Would highly recommend checking this place out for the drinks, the beautiful location but mostly for the service. Absolutely telling everyone of our fam and friend's to go there. 10/10 easily
