The Maypole is at the heart of Hobart culture. Everyone has a story or a memory. The current owners pay homage to history by offering a classic pub menu and a welcoming friendly atmosphere. A great night out.

Very rude bar people saying you cannot use their toilet just because you bought alcohol next door in Dam Mur

Attended this venue last night for dinner with my partner and our children. Very average service and the steak which two of us ordered ‘medium rare’ came ‘well done’ considering it’s $35 for rump steak I expect it cooked to order. The male manager was very arrogant, just waved the eftpos machine in your face without even telling you how much the purchase is, or what amount you are tapping for, or even showing you what he has keyed in. I would never come back to this venue. I’m all for a nice pub meal, but would rather eat at Pizza Hut then this place again. Lol

Had a feed here the other night. Bar staff were very friendly and food was average pub grub. The thing that stood out was the rudeness of the manager. He was a bully to women in our group. This guy needs to have a long hard look at his antics. The only recommendation I could give is to give it a miss

The best pub in Australia, no TAB, Keno or pokies but friendly and fast service. A very good range of meals and blackboard specials, you can book seating in advance, Wheelchair accessible restrooms. A very family friendly pub that makes everyone welcome. A must visit in New Town Hobart, Justin and his good wife Ester are a terrific team.

Super value, food was terrific at a very reasonable price. Justin and Ester were great hosts, friendly and happy to have a great chat with some banter thrown in. Highly rate The Maypole as a must visit, family friendly venue!

Fantastic pub! The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. We had our meals served very quickly. The place was pumping - live music and lots of people enjoying the lively atmosphere.

Back better than ever! Closed for a couple years due to a new Dan Murphy's being constructed behind it, the Maypole Hotel has lost none of its charm despite its battle to return it's customer base. Has a range of mainstream and craft beers on tap, a great menu (I recommend the pizza) and a classic pub feel to it considering the building of the Maypole Hotel is Tudor in architecture and is on the Heritage Register. The owner Justin is more than hospitable and he runs a well-trained and friendly team of staff for front-of-house operations. There is a Happy Hour from 4.30-6.30 PM on a Friday night (as of time of writing, $5 schooners and house wines) and live music is played during peak times of business. It may be lacking in sports coverage but if you want a good venue with live music, a good selection of beers on tap and a great pub-style menu; The Maypole Hotel is hard to beat. Give them a try if you haven't already, especially while they're rebuilding their customer base
