Launceston Backpackers reviews
29Don't go there! We called to reserve the day before, the gentleman at reception told us to come the next day at 3 p.m. For the reservation. The next day we arrived at 3 p.m. As agreed, the man was completely stoned and told us that he didn't have a reservation, that he didn't have anyone on the phone and that he wouldn't be able to accommodate us even though we had made the reservation.reservation on his phone like last time. In addition, the rooms are dirty, the sheets are not changed or cleaned between 2 customers.
Is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in! I recommend it 100%. I have been there for a whole month and I have felt like at home. I had a private room with a private bathroom, but I have seen the shared bathroom and everywhere was clean. Huge kitchen with fridges and a freezer, cleaned daily.
The washing machine washes with cold water but cleans well, costs $3. For hanging out the washing there is space outside. The hostel is very well located. Coles and dominos are close by.
Internet was fine in the mornings but in the evenings it was better not to need it. Parking is free of charge.
One thing to keep in mind is that for check-in it is better to have a phone at hand in case the reception is closed. The manager is SUPER nice. I am very grateful for my time there. I hope to be back soon!
Creepy place. Everyone in there was really weird. We arrived within reception hours yet there were nobody around - not one staff member. There were underwear just laying about in the hallway which no one picked up for days. The kitchen is dirty, the private room was spacious but with nothing in it, except a huge heater which hangs above your head with small rusty hooks which is scary.
We booked the same day of staying. While check in is open till 20, we got here at 19 and nobody was there. We got a messege with all the info but couldnt ask any additional questions since there was no staff member around and there are signs everywhere that say if you call after hours you will be charged 20$, we didnt risk it.
The bedding and pillowcases were dirty, the blanket was without a cover.
The heater is hanging over your head from the cieling.
The washing machine only uses cold water.
The kitchen is equipped but very old.
Location is good and central.
A great location in Launceston. Walking distance to the shopping strip and places to eat. The room was clean and we had our own ensuite. Secure building and a comprehensive kitchen if you wish to cook. Great if you are on a budget.
A bit oldfashioned and unfortunately very busy since this is the only backpacker place around Launceston.
But i had a nice welcome, with all the information i needed.
Most people working here are very friendly, except for the one guy who barged in my room without knocking!
There’s a big kitchen en nice common room where you can watch tv or sit around for a chat.
Tested positive late evening for Covid-19. As such did the right thing and stayed in my room. Next morning I got kicked out after requesting a few more hours to find new accommodation so no one else gets it. Sadly they were in a rush to get more people into my room despite the obvious case in there
which is so dodgy. I was kicked out to the park, had one guy aggressively up in my face who reported me to the police for “not leaving” even though u did…absolute clowns.
You would expect better treatment of
Someone trying to do the right thing and helping keep their state safe and particular their industry which has suffered most. Explains why they run a hostel and aren’t doctors or engineers ️
Fantastic and helpful staff, we had a great time @ Launceston backpackers! Staff were discreet but very comprehensive and also responsive with us and our booking requests, which is a big + for young people. The beds are not the coziest but it is very affordable and it is a very clean hostel.
Facilities were great but it was VERY cold. If I had of been staying by myself I would not have cared but I had my two teenage sons with me. This was their first back packers experience and they were looking forward to meeting different people but they spent their time huddled up in the room.
Best place to stay for the Backpackers in the heart of Launceston City. Guy at the reception was so helping and kind that he waited for us after office hours. If you are in that area, just give it priority over other places around.
Loved the architecture. The walls were nice and solid so def no complaints. Will definitely be considering it if we come back to Launceston.
Comfortable, afftortable, and clean. Really nice manager and big kitchen. We really like the place.
Gorgeous old heritage home with huge rooms and only 1 flight of stairs. Opposite a beautiful tree filled park and close to the Irish pub
Great vibe, big kitchen and nice eating area. Has a piano as well! Be aware that check in is not all day - the caretaker comes in to check people in at specific times. Call ahead to ask what time this is (for us it was 3pm)
This is located at 15-20 mins from city centre. The free wi-fi is not very good. For faster wifi you need to pay additional charges. Also for key you need to pay security charge upfront which is refundable at time of check out. For linen you need to pay separately on top of your booking. Onsite parking is available. It's seems to be a property transformed to be used as hostel.
There's no lockers and bed sheets aren't included. Clean with options of 6 or 4 bed dorms for only a dollar more. Front desk is closed extremely early. Good central location not far from super duper
Just imagine this. You go to a restaurant, order a nice dinner and a beer. Then after a 10 minute wait the waiter comes in with your dinner. It looks okay, but you are hungry. But, you don't have a fork. You ask the waiter for a fork, but then he tells you that, yes he can bring you a fork BUT! You have to hire the fork fo two dollars.that is the feeling i got when i booked my room and they told me that i could get a sheet if i paid 2 dollars extra. Okay.weird.
Other things, its an old house, what has a certain carm, but the common rooms are very cold.
Redeming factors, the kitchen is only closed for a short time for cleaning, and its cheap
$65 got me a single private room, no towel, no fan/ blower / heater or fridge or anything other than the wallpaper. Some may say a good deal, only if you're used to getting ripped off.
I'd be scared to stay in winter.
A very run down place, am sure (hoping) the shared rooms are better in value.
I miss the clean, well kept places in other cities (that charge the same and more - but you get a better experience /value)
Motel or hotel room next time.
It's a backpackers, $65?
A car would have been better.
Admin guy was helpful which I appreciate.
Good location in town with pubs and supermarkets nearby. Nice old building with clean rooms, bathrooms, halls. I like the building layout. Helpful staff. Could do with flyscreens on the windows.
Made a reservation 4 days prior to arrival. After hiking all Day we arrived at the hostel, ready to relax. However the staff didn’t write Down the booking, so we were left without a place to sleep for the Night. Very unprofesional and left us searching for last-minute accomendation in several hours as everything was booked out. Luckily the Arthouse Hostel’s friendly staff helped us even though they were booked out too. Heavily recommend the Arthouse Hostel
