Lake Gairdner Free Camping Area reviews
15Beautiful free camping between a lake and a river. Really close to cradle mountain. It doesn’t have facilities
Just off the side of the bridge enough space for a few caravans tents etc. OK For an over night stay but that's about it.
This place is just amazing! A little gem in Tasmania, one of our favourite free camping! There is no water, toilet, shower, but an amazing view and it is cleaned! Highly recommend it!
Camped with a river one side lake on the other. Bring your own firewood. Is a gravel road in but in great condition.
Best free campground in Tasmania. There is the lake, and you. Nothing else. Easy to access from the road.
Great spot by the lake. No facilities, but hey, free camping I guess. Ground is strangely hard about 2 inches in, so bring a mallet if you're sleeping in a tent
Beautiful place for stay with amazing view to the lake and no to far for cradle mountain. (27minutes)
No toilets, no water, no bins.
Leave clean that place
An awesome free camping area. It takes 30 minutes to get to cradle mountain. Also not far away from bridal veil falls and champagne falls
On the day day I found it too open, it was raining, cold, wet and miserable ground full of water in places. But this is the north west coast with Cradle Mountain in the background, but in the summer most likely a different look and feel.maybe!
The place is nice. Except for my $20 Marghetia pizza which came with mint instead of basil and there was no bocconconi as advertised.
Mint is disgusting and does not pair with pizza. When I told them of this issue they did not offer me a refund.
Beautiful location. Peaceful, pretty and in the middle of nature and the tasmanian wilderness.
Not much in the way of amenities and the nearest shop is some distance. This is very much a self sufficient campsite, if you need anything, youll have to have brought it with you.

Free camp, no facilities & un serviced.take photos & leave footprints. The lake is either empty or flooded with 50mm of rain deciding which.the camp area can flood with greater than 50mm of rain.
I have lived here for 20 years.
Please take your rubbish with you when you depart.
It’s great to have a free campsite within a reasonable distance of Cradle Mountain (about 30 mins to the Visitor Centre). There were maybe half a dozen other campers there in late January, but there’s a ton of space so it wasn’t at all crowded.
There are no facilities at the site, so that means no power and no toilets, but that works out fine when you’re not too far away from Cradle.
My reception with Telstra was borderline unusable, so keep that in mind. It would probably be enough to send a text or make a short call if really necessary, but trying to use mobile data was painful, and I wouldn’t rely on it.
The dirt road in is actually fairly long, but if you drive at a sensible speed a small 2WD should have no issues.
Otherwise, it was a nice space, with a great little view out over the lake!
