Hotel Cecil reviews
38 This is based on the rooms only. From all accounts the meals are beautiful.
If spiders, mould and 30 year old mattresses are your thing then go for it. This place could be beautiful with a lot of work. Total of 8 large black spiders dispatched though the night. One on the bed. Bathroom facilities are functional but very very tired. I guess this is why rooms are so cheap.
Place smells of cooking oil, carpets are sticky and filthy.
This rating is for the restaurant/ food, as we didn't stay. Absolutely YUM!
Best mushroom gravy ever, steak sanger was so good and steak with veg. Pinched most of hubbies gravy Staff super friendly. Highly recommend.
It's hard doing this review because I understand the many challenges rural businesses face. I do not recommend this place for dining in because of the poor lack of service and the very long waiting time for food. The menu seems too big for the hotel to handle causing long wait times. When I visited, the children of the staff were playing in the dining area and the staff was running from bar to kitchen, not a professional look for any business. The food was enjoyable but was let down by the points mentioned above.
The saying you should never judge a book by its cover applies to the Hotel Cecil. A bit dubious when we drove past, read some reviews and was pretty excited when we saw the menu. And it didn't disappoint. Jenelles service and food was above and beyond. Best Spring Rolls, Mongolian Beef and Garlic Chicken I've had in Tassie so far. Would of loved to try the Curry Puffs but unfortunately she'd only made the delicious Spring Rolls. And so welcoming for our little girl and even put ABC Kids on for her on the TV. Massive serves also. Highly recommend
Stopped in on the way to Strahan as Kids were "starving" and couldn't wait 30 minutes.
It was alright food, big quantities, but slow service given we were the only ones in the restaurant. Expensive for what we got as well.
Their deep fryer was broken so they claimed they couldn't cook most of their menu including chicken parmas which we thought was confusing (do they not have a frypan?).
They ended up using a wok to make a parma for us, pretty average parma though but that's okay.
Had an excellent meal. Kids meals are large and flavoursome. They try and make a lot of their own food and it shows in the flavour. Would recommend and enjoyed our meal. Staff were lovely too. The place is old but the food is good.
Ordered a beer to sit outside with before dinner, mid order the guy stops and answers his mobile without staying anything to me. He doesn't walk away, simply stands there watching me while he has a conversation with one of his staff on the phone (if my boss spoke like that to me I would be calling up sick too) eventually he hangs up, and I try to continue my transaction. He pushes the eftpos machine at me then storm's away without so much as an apology or a thanks for waiting.
Safe to say I didn't stick around for the dinner service.
Didn't eat here but stayed O/N. Bed was very comfy and warm.wasnt too impressed with shared bathroom facilities as they were fairly unclean.
There was coffee, tea etc on offer but no teaspoon or milk. Just these few things would have made stay better. Lovely old pub.
Beautiful relaxed dining experience great food and freindly and helpful staff will definetly dine there again
We took a punt on Hotel Cecil. My wife and I both chose a chicken parmi off their extensive menu. We were both rewarded with crispy crumbed tender meat, fresh salad and a selection of sauces. Best parmi in years. Waiter was a local lad, bright and cheerful and very helpful. Highly recommend.
The service and food at the Cecil were outstanding. We had the vegan burger and gourmet meat burger. Both were delicious. Highly recommended. We will return.
The service here was exceptional, the young guy who served us was welcoming, friendly and funny. He is a credit to this hotel. The meals were so fresh and tasty, we didn't know what to really expect being the old hotel on the outside, and the experience went beyond. The restaurant was busy with takeaways, but our food was served in reasonable time and again was so tasty, fresh and very well priced portions.
Good food BUT we were the first four in the bistro at 5: 10pm, ordered at 5: 20pm and did not receive our meal until 6: 25pm. Simple burgers and chips. Three more tables came in not long after us and when we had finished eating and paying to leave the other tables also still had not received meals
Great family run bistro and pub the food was amazing and the family atmosphere that is created there is second to none. The bed upstairs and in the miners cabins were the best ever. Credit to the Cecil hotel.
The most caring staff, food was gorgeous and they were so accommodating for us as we are travelling on bicycles! It's a family business and the kids are a breath of fresh air. Cannot recommend enough!?
As to be expected of a run down mining town pub. Unexpectedly had a vegan burger with chips which was alright.
Very nice place to have lunch. Catch up with friends. Nice and quite. Plenty of room so you can get away from the crowds. Wide variety of food on the menu. Will be going there again.
Room is basic. I found hairs on my pillow and sheet apart from that everything ok. The food was good.
We had a lovely freshly cooked lunch. The chicken parmi was cooked from scratch. My rissoles and vegetables were very nice. The gourmet chicken burgers were great with freshly made coleslaw and real chicken.
The venue was clean but very dated. Could do with a new ceiling.
We received good service.
No tap beer, music came blasting on randomly as we sat at the bar, very rundown. Needs lots of work to bring up to scratch
