Very happy with my care in the ER at Hobart private hospital. Friendly and prompt service from nurses and doctors.

I had sought help for an infected cyst for two weeks with little joy before presenting at the Hobart Private A and E. Yes there’s a steep upfront fee but it was worth every penny. I was seen promptly and expertly. My attending physician arranged an appointment with a specialist the next morning, who then booked me in for surgery the following day. My experience in day surgery was similarly outstanding - skilled nursing and medical staff who put me at my ease and treated me with care and respect. I’ve both been involved in and experienced health care for over 40 years and I could not fault the care I received. Thanks to all.

Husband was admitted with broken ribs, scapula after fall at home, in a lot of pain. Given analgesia PRN, not on a regular basis! I had to request for regular charted pain relief from the doctor.
No assistance with showering or meals, despite needing +assistance.
Shabby building and dingy room, blinds couldn’t be opened to let light in. Awful experience.

Burnout does not excuse the rudeness of the ER staff, whose job seems to be to redirect anything more serious than a cut finger to the Royal. They could be replaced with a big arrow pointing around the corner to the public A&E.

Staff just do their job but with no rush.
Care is ok but nothing special you would receive the same at the royal.
A friendly warning your excess only covers the paperwork.
Be prepared to pay for everything else on top with little warning.
$240 emergency fee
$500 doctors fee not covered you normally get a call a week or so later demanding a payment.
$200-$1000 imaging fee.

A visit here will definitely set you back over a $1000 on top of you excess

I went in to get my hemeroids sorted out, the staff there were super friendly, talked me through the process all the way, after surgery care was brilliant, food was a bit to be desired but isn't that with all hospital food? Would recommend going to he private if you can!

In Hobart Private from 2nd November till 8th Nov. After a knee replacement I was advised not to move out of bed without a nurse. On the second day, still in pain, I rang for a nurse for 40 minutes and no one came. When I complained later to the ones on duty, they said they were with new patients and are short of staff. Another issue was the lack of cleaning. A cleaner gave a cursory vacuum. The bathroom and toilet area were not done.

We pay for private health insurance because we want piece of mind and to free up the system for people who can't afford private health.
I rang this morning for some Information and spoke to a nurse who sounded rude with her tone uncaring and couldn't wait to get off the phone.
As it's a public holiday here today l was told there wasn't any cardiac doctors in today and l should go see my doctor tomorrow and get a referral. I explained my position to her and still unmoved.
It's a 2 week wait to see my doctor, that's why l called the hospital. I was reluctant to call given all the bad reviews and now l wish l hadn't done so. It has left me feeling anxious.

This hospital has let my family down. Absolutely disgusting treatment from the A&E doctor this afternoon.
My dad is elderly. He recently had pneumonia and it has returned with an absolute vengeance. His oxygen levels are low, his obs are all over the place. My dad lives with my sister an hours drive from the city.
Dad tried to do the right thing and went to the respiratory clinic first.
They did his obs and immediately told him he needed to go to hospital and that the pneumonia had returned much worse than before. They even called the hospital ahead to let them know he was coming due to the severity of the situation.
He went to the private, they took him in, did his obs, then this doctor said there was no way dad would be staying and they were sending him home. He was rude and abrasive to my sister. Brushed off any of her questions, told her dad would not be staying or receiving treatment, and sent dad home with 7 days worth of antibiotics (oral antibiotics which the clinic had advised would not do the job and that he needed IV antibiotics).
My sister said they lived over an hour away. He didn't care. She said what about his oxygen levels (at that stage were dropping to around 94/95. Didn't care said he should be fine and just to take antibiotics.
So now my dad who is extremely unwell, cannot form a sentence without having to take a breath, has obs all over the place and literally confirmed pneumonia, is at home with my sister, so far away from help if they need it. We are all holding our breath dad survives this.
We have already lost our mum and it's not good enough that we could now lose our dad due to negligence from a doctor and hospital who were more interested in getting their money than actually helping.
Thanks for the great treatment

I wouldn't rate this place very high AT ALL. Firstly no one had a name tag on so you didn't know who you were dealing with as they couldn't even give you the courteous of introducing themselves simply come into the room asking are you in pain and here to do your obs. Not friendly. Very little if any care was offered. As for how handover was done where is patient privacy it was done in the ward no curtains pulled so every one knew all about each other. The catering staff are tip top very friendly and helpful Also the gentleman that escorted me off the premises ever so helpful As for the rest of the staff I think they need to go next door to the royal and learn some people skills and basic manners. Can't fault the Royal. I won't be back very disappointed

Woke up in the middle of the night on Saturday night due to urinary tract infection. Being just a visitor from Sydney, I didn't know where to go. I knew I needed medical attention because from experience I knew my condition was going for the worse. I intended to go to Royal Hobart Public Hospital but the UBER driver dropped me off by mistake to the Private Hospital. And I will be forever grateful that he did! Not only that I got attended to straight away (at 3am mind you) but the Emergency Staff, the Nurse and the Doctor to treated me were all very nice. They sent my tests to the lab and told me they will call me should there be any concern. I felt better since then, but they rang me today for the results. I was both impressed and grateful. Dr Patrick even organised to email the prescription to me so I can get the medication immediately. Thank you so much to everyone in Hobart Private Hospital. I cannot tell you how grateful I am. My apologies though for the trouble of the run around with faxing the prescription to Chemist Warehouse (another experience that one. Not so good as with the Private Hospital). Thanks so much again and please keep up the good works. Your kindness and efficiency goes a long way.

Most staff seem very caring & kind the lady standing outside of reception was rather rude towards me and my mum, my mum had trouble signing in and she was kinda rushing my mum and raising her tone of voice by sounding very rude and repeating stuff as of we didn’t hear her the first three times. I fully understand how stressful it is directing people and trying to get people to line up but by yelling at me and my mum is not appreciated at all. Cheers

As a public patient being sent to the rented beds at the Private because of beds needed in the Royal, the patient care sucks. Is that because public patients aren't paying? No one responds to buzzer. Other person in room thinks the bathroom is solely for their purpose. Freezing cold but no blankets. Given a mattress protector instead. Too bad if you suffer another heart attack. No one would come.

I recently had back surgery at Hobart Private Hospital. Apart from the surgery my stay was nothing but positive. The staff were an absolute pleasure and the meals were lovely.

Presented to ED on multiple ocassions with back pain over a 2 week period. On one presentation doctor didn't even perform a physical examination instead had a 5min chat then left. On another ocassion I was assessed by a doctor who gave me a thorough examination and overall assessment. My last visit was terrible, given no pain relief until approx 8hrs after presentation, just shown the bed and discarded. I would've gone to the RHH on each ocassion however the waiting periods to get seen are long. I also presented to the RHH during this period and they were brilliant, full physical assessment and mental health check, even offered me something to eat & drink, Hobart Private didn't even offer me a glass of water. In a nutshell, many (not all) of the ED staff lack empathy and have poor bedside manners. Perhaps they should spend some time in the RHH ED to appreciate the pressures they work under whilst delivering high levels of patient care.

And still nothing has improved

Control freak doctors who speak to staff like trash, rude admin staff.

14 hours wait for a CT all the while the patient can't drink.

You are going to kill someone

Horrible experience. Nurse pretty much let me stumble post op and left me alone when I wasn't stable to stand on my own. I specifically confirmed dietary requirements and they brought me stuff I can't eat and when I asked for a substitute the nurse said nope that's it, nothing else. I was a private patient that paid through the nose to not get food or care. Disgraceful.
