Hobart Central YHA reviews
52 Pros: Room bathroom, location, clean, independent light/charging per bed
Cons: Kitchen is pretty rundown and small, no communal space, small rooms (limited storage)
No bedside light n charging port for the top bunk I got. Under Bed locker is inconvenient. They should free up some rooms n use the space as kitchen/ dining area/ lounge. For so many rooms there, the size of the fridge is ridiculous.it's difficult to cook or enjoy a meal or even cup of tea with ease. Not the standard of YHA I expected. Thumbs up for the friendly staff and clean sheets. Location is very good as well.
Matt from Reception was incredibly disrespectful. I had had to run to a meeting and missed my checkout time by 45minutes. He was condescending and acting like he was security and escorting me out. I had stayed here a week already! No way to treat anybody woth no exemptions. The lack of communication was unbearable.
Loved thr location but have now lost a customer. Shameful Matt.
Stayed at the YHA in Hobart at the start of my Tasmanian adventure. The hostel is in the perfect location and has multiple amenities available to guests. It is a rather small hostel; However, dorm sizes were perfect and had a private bathroom attached. The hostel uses digital keys which is a great idea. They are very easy to use (just make sure your phone doesn’t go flat). The hostel was affordable, clean and comfortable. I would recommend this place to any traveler or backpacker.
I was in a 4-share with an ensuite, and this made for a great experience. Lots of places to eat and museums nearby. Short walk down to the harbour for sunrise and tours.
Keep in mind it is a youth hostel and it is in the middle of the city, so can be noisy. There's a clock tower right across the road that regularly rings.
Although we didn’t stay here, we utilised the bag drop-off facilities and found the staff to be so incredibly helpful and welcoming. Everything was secure and safely tucked away where we left it.
Also, important to note, if it hadn’t been for the lovely lady at the front counter who gave me a map of places to visit, I would have never had the chance to see a platypus in the wild! Thank-you for the rivulet tips!
Nice place to stay in the centre of the city
* Woolworths and restaurants at a walking distance
Great stay in a double ensuite room in a fabulous location at a good price. Bed great. A little noisy in the morning, occasional street noise in the evening, but not at all bad for a Saturday night. Skybus only one street over to airport. Right at the Docks, Salamanca Market, ferries, cafes and restaurants. Only negative, couldn't turn off fan in bathroom over night.
I stayed in Hobart central and my room was good clean enough and we were very with room and location but one thing was awful,
They messed up reception, super dirty and unorganised. Please note kitchen hygiene was pathetic and they have only 1 set of 4 kitchen hot plate and two of them wasn’t working. Kitchen space was ridiculously small can’t even fit 8 people at once.sorry but I have stayed in so many YHA before and this is only one put me down.they need to work on the size of the kitchen with having some extra heat plate properly working and clean reception area. Thanks
The rooms were quite big, but the doors to the rooms are heavy and loud. So you won't be sleeping much after people wake up.
Pros: good location, goki & good bathrooms.
Cons: extremely long check in process, uncomfortable mattresses, poor quantity of plugs, dirty mattress protector, loud noise from common areas & the kitchen is small.
It is the worst YHA out of the 8 I’ve stayed around Australia.
Friendly staff, perfect location, very comfortable rooms. Kitchen a bit small but it worked for us. Laundry room was an added bonus.
Rooms were great, clean. Easy to find and close to everything. Has everything you need however Reception is impossible to get a hold off unless in person. We tried about 10 /12 times to get hold off them and leave messages regarding our luggage. Not possible to store your luggage if your going on a tour for the as reception opens after you need to leave which wouldn't be a problem of you get a hold of reception. Would rate 5 if was slightly more helpful.
We stayed there for 6 nights holiday, the room was on the ground floor near the kitchen and laundry. It was very noisy! There were no room service guaranteed everyday. More like DIY hotel. Although the location was great, If you have enough budget and are interested in a private room, def wouldn’t recommend you to book here. Might be useful for just single backpackers if you are interested in sharing stuff.
Room were clean and the staff friendly. They did not show me to my room though, just let me figure it out. The kitchen is tiny, not enough space for a hostel of that many people. There is no vibe at the hostel. Not good to meet other travelers.
Location is ideal for a new person for Tassie. Easy access to everywhere in the city.
Hotel staff is friendly and welcoming.
It was a good stay, clean room, the bathroom generally clean. The only thing we didn't like so much was the space of the kitchen, it was so small, considering many guests. The location is very good, but if you consider to come by car, parking might be a bit hard near there. There are some car park for good price. Friendly staff:)
It's a very nice accommodation if you even just consider the location. You can walk to all the happening places in the city from here and then there is nice rooms neatly maintained and friendly staff. Staff is very helpful and always welcoming, now I know where to go when I am back in Hobart
Great location, clean and friendly staff. Stayed 3 nights in total - 2 at the start of the trip and then booked for 1 night on our way back.
My husband and I were more than happy here. The room was well appointed clean and had everything we needed for our short stay. Have stayed in various YHA but none surpassed the quality of this one. Your welcomed as soon as you step into the front door. The locatiin is perfect and close to cafes bars and retail. We will definitely be staying there again
