Highland Getaway, Tasmania

This was such a wonderful experience! We did the farm tour which was a unique opportunity to get up close to these beauties Julie is a wonderful tour guide and groups are kept small which made it a lovely experience. Definitely worth the visit!

I took my mum to Highland Getaway for a simple farm tour as a little day activity/something really fun to do locally. Julie (owner) has a lot of educational knowledge about her animals, not only do you get to encounter with the animals but you also get to learn about her story and how it all started. She incorporates knowledge with the encounters and is very soft spoken and patient. The animals are the most gorgeous things ever. The farm tour includes seeing the land, getting up close with Highland cattle including brushing & petting them, lots of opportunities for photos, feeding alpacas and the little chickens/ roosters. Plus some light refreshments afterwards. Super fun day & highly recommend!

Lovely property, very well cared for and much loved cows and alpacas. Nice place to stop over and visit.

Julie and family are such welcoming hosts - and Julie's cows and alpacas are just so cute and lovely to meet. The farmstay is close to Huonville and other local shops that you are able to duck out for coffee etc and not have too far to go. Thanks Julie for a great couple of days! My partner and I did the farm tour and it was such a great experience. Absolutely loved learning about Julie’s story and getting amongst her beautiful Highland Cattle! They are such amazing creatures, and getting to pat and brush them was such a unique and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this tour!

Did the farm tour. Was absolutely excellent to get up close with all the animals. The lady running the tour was lovely and explained her philosophy of farming and what brought her to the farm. It was an excellent tour and so much more than just seeing a few animals. Combing the highland cows was the absolute highlight.

Our family was very lucky, we had the whole place for us self.
So incredible private, peaceful and breathtakingly beautiful.
We loved everything about it, I can't recommend it highly enough.

Peaceful and luxurious. Julie is an excellent host and has built a slice of Tassie paradise. The animals are adorable, farm tour fascinating and fun. We stayed in the farm stay house: ridiculously comfy beds, all mod cons, beautifully furnished. We slept like logs. Enjoyed every minute, money well spent!

Absolutely fantastic place to stay. Julie was an exceptionally thoughtful and accommodating host. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the cinema suite and the farm tour was fantastic

The view from the bedroom was stunning. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious but for $300 PER NIGHT for two nights I expected so much more.

I have had the opportunity to extensively explore Tasmania, mainland Australia and indeed the globe for decades and my recent birthday 'treat' at Highland Getaway was THE most disappointing experience ever.

Yes, it was delightful to be briefly up close and personal with the poultry, alpacas and Highland cattle but I consider it reasonable to expect more for the high rate.

I expect thick good quality bath sheets in the bathroom and by the spa and at least an extra towel for if I wash my hair or a shower cap if I don't, and body lotion. I don't expect blood stains on the doona cover and a light bulb on the bedside lamp that doesn't work.

For the rate charged, I expect more than a bowl of cereal, fruit and a loaf of bread with insufficient milk for two people to enjoy said bowl of cereal for two mornings.

Although the bedroom and bathroom were spacious, in the combined kitchenette/dining/lounge there was barely space to prepare a simple salad.

The lack of privacy accompanying the spa was sooo disappointing as was the fact that the BBQ we had expected to use for our evening meal was not for our exclusive use but on the adjoining property.

To add insult to injury, there was no escape from the noise of the whining child from the nearby cottage even inside our suite. The noise went on and on.

I am a passionate Tasmanian and I love to promote Tasmania at every opportunity but I was incredibly disappointed that Highland Getaway did not deliver for the oh so expensive rate.

Wow! Words can’t describe how amazing this place is! Julie was an excellent host - great accommodation with stunning views and such a peaceful setting, the farm tour was wonderful and the highlight was definitely the gorgeous Highlands highly recommend! We’ll definitely be back!

Julie and her parents provided a beautiful experience for us! Knowledgeable, accommodating, and so happy to answer all of our silly questions about her farm. The cows, alpacas and chickens were all very sweet, and it was lovely to have an up-close experience with them! Our favourite part was brushing the tiny calves. The property was beautiful, and so peaceful. We highly reccomend booking it!

We spent a whole morning for a farm tour. It was fantastic. We get to meet the lovely cows, other animals and also the bnb. Very beautiful place.

Did the farm tour. Was well worth it and I highly recommend it. Julie was a great guide and it was great to get up and close with the highland cows.

We had a fantastic day out visiting Julie and her beautiful cows! We were so lucky that Julie could accommodate a quick farm tour before Christmas thank you so much! We especially loved driving around in the ATV and interacting with all the animals.

Wonderful experience- you really get to meet all of the highland cattle. Julie is a great host and the bed/breakfast is beautiful!

Julie was a great host and it was a pleasure meeting her farm animals. We fed chickens, alpacas and brush the scotland hairy cows.

My husband & I visited Julie for a farm tour and we had the best time! We spent time feeding the chickens and alpacas and then met her beautiful highland cattle. We were able to brush the highland cattle calves, which we loved and they also seemed to enjoy it! They are beautiful, adorable animals, we absolutely loved the experience! Thanks Julie!

My partner and I stayed at the Highland Getaway in the Cinema Suite. The accomodation was modern, comfortable and we instantly felt at home, also the view from the bedroom was spectacular. We loved exploring the area and the farm stay experience was great! Really enjoyed getting up close with the Highland Cattle.

Julie was an excellent host and very accommodating. She even offered us a lift to the wedding we attended at Home Hill Winery. Cannot recommend highly enough!
