Gabriel's on the Bay reviews
59Food good but echoes like an empty bathroom. Seated near the bar with the doors closed on a rainy evening we were regularly startled by dropped cutlery, as well as noise from other tables. Each dropped knife or fork, or plate roughly stacked on another, was like an orchestra symbol crash. I suppose the acoustics are the result of hard surface floors and walls with little to no soft stuff to absorb it. Don't sit near where the staff pass the used plates and cutlery back to the kitchen unless you're wearing hearing protection. Not recommended if you're looking for a more intimate dining experience.
We decided to make a reservation and dine here, out of the available choices with little idea what to expect. We were seated at a table by the window with a wonderful view of the bay. The staff were friendly and the food, wine and cocktails on offer were all very good. My fish dish in particular was delicious. We are hoping to get back to this part of Tassie again, as there is so much to see and we would happily dine here again.
What a fantastic restaurant. The ambience, the staff, and of course the wonderful food.
We were greeted by very friendly waitresses, and both were very efficient.
We ordered the warm olives and squid for our starters. The olives and the crispy bread were stunning and the squid with watermelon and feta salad, went beautifully together.
We then had the pea risotto and my husband the market fish with Mediterranean vegetables. Both meals were cooked to perfection. All the scallops in the risotto, so sweet and tender. And my husbands fish was perfectly cooked. We can honestly say, tonight was the best meal we have had while travelling in Tasmania.
28th july dinner: great food, terrible service.
Walked in, and staff completely ignored us. She was just doing her own stuff inside the bar. Waited a decent amount of time before we started walking in to the tables and that’s when we were stopped and seated. Overall interaction with the waitress was so uncomfortable like she didn’t want us to be there. But she was fine with all the other tables. (Clearly she wasn’t comfortable talking to someone foreign looking).
Waited another 2 mins at the bar to pay the bill because there was no one there.
Beautiful restaurant the interior was lovely, views would be great during the day. Staff super friendly and menu has good variety. Cheesy garlic bread was sooo delicious.
We went for breakfast and found the staff were friendly food and was great and quite quick. The coffees were ok and the prices weren't too bad.
Every time we go it just gets better.
Real people serving real food and smiling. I was smiling as well when we got our locals discount
Chilled vibe, friendly service, generous servings and great food. Will be dinner here again!
Lovely restaurant but we would have loved the fire going! The girl that survey us was very friendly and helpful. We had to crumbed chicken breast and a steak. Both were cooked perfectly.
Lovely place overlooking the bay. Was a little understaffed when we were there but friendly staff nonetheless. Excellent food, some of which the prices (fish) can be subject to change. Short 10 minute walk from the camping nearby.
Absolutely wonderful night. I went with my family for a birthday celebration. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was delicious. The staff was great too. The service was fast and friendly. Genuinely really welcoming people. Will definitely be going back.
Great food, terribly understaffed. Told us and all others that were seated that they would be tended to, however everyone was up at the bar trying to get there own drinks pretty quick. Staff that were there were good, just needed help, brings a good experience down pretty quick especially when you ultimately aren’t getting what your paying for. I’m
The setting was nice but from the get go the experience was not great. Waited 10mins before being acknowledged, another 10mins before being seated (we had booked), 40mins later we were served our entrees. Entrees were good. The wait staff did not offer more drinks when our glasses were empty, replace my husbands napkin or clear our entree plates before bringing our mains. The steak was very chewy and the pepper gravy tasted more like jus, but otherwise the mains were fine. There was no apology about any wait times when we paid the check. We did, at least, have a better experience than the table next to us who waited over an hour to have the wrong entree brought to them.
The staff were friendly and doing their best but they seemed inexperienced and understaffed.
Very nice spot. Quiet busy so as you would expect a bit of a wait. Def worth it once the food came out
Relaxed atmosphere and good food beautifully presented. Lovely to sit by the window, overlooking the water, enjoying a glass of wine. Just what you need after a long day exploring this beautiful area.
We started with the oysters as an entree and they were really lovely. They were super fresh and yummy.
For our mains, we’ve ordered a medium-rare Grilled Scotch Fillet and a Chicken Parmi. The fillet was grilled really nicely with smokey and crispy layer outside. However, we’ve found the steak a bit hard to chew. The chicken parmi was quite disappointing though. It was really dry inside and should have been cooked more tender and juicy.
We’ve spent over $100 for two people. I don’t think the quality of the food is well aligned with the price, so I’ll give it a three-star.
Terrible service, nice food. We booked 8 weeks in advance for a table for 2. We were given the worst table in the restaurant next to the bar with people standing next to us. Waited 1 & 1/2 hours for our meal of one dish each. Food was good. Asked to pay and provided with total amount only, had to request receipt listing the charges. Really bad. Not going back.
First class meal if your are after something special while at the Tasman Peninsula. We'll be back again next time. Desserts were a bit special too.
I really loved the squid entree and brisket for main.
Lovely wait staff and friendly head chef.
Thank you for a lovely night.
Went for dinner here with a cow worker and we were extremely happy with the service, Marley and rose made us feel very welcome…. 10/10… will be coming back
