The lady at reception is what soured it for me. She was just rude, seemed really annoyed that I was there checking in like it was an inconvenience, I had to fill out all my information on paper even though she should have all the details on the system. I was really put out having to write my credit card details where anyone could see because she just leaves it out. She told me I was wrong when I said I didn’t have internet I had to show the SOS on my phone, there is a wifi password but it doesn’t work in the cabin. There is a rude note about the cereals in the room being charged full breakfast if you eat any of it, like seriously if you are going to be cheap about some Rice Bubbles. The place is ok, overpriced for what it is, only reason to stay is when you have no choice. Will never stay here again because the lady was just awful.

We had a wonderful 3 days at Derwent Bridge Chalets - really surprised in a good way as we expected caravan park style so has but it was very lovely and most comfortable- the spa after a long hike with the salts was so thoughtful. The bed was luxurious - king size many warm blankets excellent quality the pillows were large and soft - we really liked our time at the Derwent Bridge Chalets very close proximity to Lake St Clair National Park

Great location being 5 minutes away from Lake St Clair Visitor Centre. Our room has everything we need to make our meals. Clean and tidy. Parking available directly outside our room.

Read the over reviews and avoid this place like the plague. The owners are incapable of showing any compassion towards their guests. What a terrible way to run a small business. They will try claim innocence but they sincerely don’t care about anything but money.

Louise was extremely helpful and kind.
We called and asked if we could arrive a day earlier and she kindly accommodated us, no problem at all.
Olympus Chalet was large, full kitchen and laundry. Loungeroom had 3 comfortable lounges, magazines and good TV reception. Bed and pillows were extremely comfortable.
Whole Chalet was immaculate.

Stayed for one night. Location and cabins are nice however the bad attitude and behaviour of the main staff member (woman called Louise) has the potential to sour your stay. She is rude on the phone (I called out of courtesy to advise I had an extra guest even though our booking could cater for that # anyway. Of course she charged us extra). While I was checking in I observed her behaviour with other guests and her rudeness is shocking to say the least and is absolutely uncalled for.
Doesn't explain what breakfast is but has no patience when you're deciding whether or not to fork out the $13 that breakfast costs.

She also needs to abolish the archaic method of expecting guests to provide their cc details in writing especially when she leaves the completed forms on the front counter for anyone to see.

Lovely spot but definitely would not recommend.

If I could give it zero star, I would. The worst experience. The chalet is not well maintained and dirty. The service was really really bad. The lady who seemed to be the owner shouldn't work in hospitality industry at all if she decides to maintain that attitude.

My family of four stayed at Bryon Chalet! Beds, were clean and spacious and wooden cabin was well equipped.the best thing onsite was the cosy fire place! Owner was really helpful in recommending on places to eat and things to do around the area. Managed to catch sight of echidna and wallaby at our stay.

My sister and I stayed in the lovely Nive chalet and could not have been happier. Very clean, and comfortable. The lady who greeted me at reception was welcoming, helpful and friendly. I can only imagine the negative comments posted by other guests is a result of their own bad planning and lack of research. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Louise is a wonderful host and despite the lack of forewarning done her absolute best to accomodate us. Rufus cottage- best sleep we’ve had in days- warm cozy, every amenity you need and clean

Honestly, this was the worst experience my wife and I have ever had. The lady in shoulder length dark hair in glasses, who I presume was the owner from previous comments, greeted us at the reception. As we proceeded to inform her that we have booked the Nive studio for a family of two adults and one 2 year old. She was quick to inform us that was not allowed according to the owner. Making a huge fuss about the details on the website and that children aren’t allowed to stay in Nive.

As I attempted to explain that we had limited options to choose from as we are travelling with a young child, she was not hearing any of it. And told us that she had no choice but to refuse to let us stay her accommodation at 5.30pm in the evening after a long day of driving. And in addition to her lack of sympathy, will not be refunding us the deposit we made despite turning us away at the end of a long day, with a young child.

She went on to lecture us about not being responsible parents for not communicating our circumstances and continued ridiculing us on our poor holiday planning and communication. Going on about how she has 3 children and she has never had such problems in her experience in her own family holidays.

As we were leaving, we noticed another couple checking in after us. And I can’t help thinking if she could have accommodated to us and proposed to swap our studio for theirs instead of asking us to drive 2 hours to another town.

She most definitely ruined my first trip to Tasmania.

Contrary to a number of comments, we stayed there last night in two chalets and we were treated very well By the owner. Yes she is a little slow to warm up to you, but she was in fact very helpful and pleasant. The accommodation is a No-brainer! It’s great.

The owner lady was very rude and grumpy. Quite aggressive in her manner. A very small and minor misunderstanding around the parking for our daughter and son-in-law, visiting us, could’ve been easily resolved but she chose to have an all out argument on our front door step first thing in the morning.
Not to mention we paid for a “continental breakfast”, which consisted of a choice of dry cereals, 4x slices of bread and basic spreads. NOT worth the money…
We will NOT be returning - our adult kids stayed at Lake St Clair - we regret we didn’t do the same!

I would strongly advise against staying here. Whilst the cabins are clean and adequate, the service was shockingly rude and hostile. I really feel sorry for the owner/host because there’s obviously something causing her significant distress that she is taking out on her customers. We were repeatedly told off like children at almost any opportunity, and it felt as though she lurked around just to keep an eye out. Despite booking a cabin with room for 4 to sleep we were charged an extra $90 per night to “accomodate” the 3rd and 4th person. The wifi does not work.

Go stay elsewhere and hopefully the owners might get the message about being kind and warm.

At first I was really put off by the incredibly rude behaviour of the owner and then I just felt sad for her. She clearly has a deep unhappiness or personal issues and takes this out on her customers. We called in advance to say we would be checking in late, she did not seem to care. When we arrived at 930pm she just kept trying to dig at why we were so late and what we were doing, we felt like two young children coming home after curfew. I think someone so put out by this arrival time should not be in the hospitality/ accomodation industry. Although the room is very clean and is acceptable, I would strongly advise you stay elsewhere to avoid this very disturbing and unsettling energy - particularly if you are on holiday or visiting Tasmania!

We had the Rufus Chalet which was very spacious but very cosy at the same time.
The bed and pillows were comfortable.
The bathroom was clean and modern.
They have selfserved laundry facility on side.
The lady at the reception was friendly and informative.
Will I recommend this place? Yes.

We had a wonderful stay at Derwent Bridge Chalets. We were lucky enough to visit during the coldest November day in 70 years and arrived to find the fire lit and the cabin cosy and warm. Set in a lovely busy setting, and well appointed.

Incredibly rude telephone conversation in trying to give as much notice as possible in regard to a cancellation due to COVID-19. Despite all information to the contrary I was told I would not get a refund. I am awaiting a response to a later email. Despite being offered a 24 month deferral (we could book later) I would not choose to stay at this property given the attitude of the person on the telephone. It is of note that all my other interactions with organisations in Tasmania were very positive and sympathetic.

The staff was unfriendly and ridiculously rude. I had to give up my deposit so not to be treated like some rubbish and had my holiday ruined.
After been abused by the reception lady, we went to the wilderness hotel across the road instead, the staff is super friendly, nice environment and the room is cosy and clean. A better option to anyone that prefer a friendly place.
