Clarendon - National Trust reviews
16Extreme wealth derived from good connections, convict (slave) Labor, and the obliteration of natives.
Reminded me of some of the grand estates I have visited in England.
Immaculately restored by National Trust, it is a true treasure of Australian history and a bygone era.
Beautiful place just to walk around the outside of the building through the beautiful gardens.
Clarendon House, lovingly restored by the National Trust, is a grand old home built for a successful pastoralist and merchant (James Cox) in 1838 and maintained by about 100 servants. This building and surrounding grounds need to seen.it’s like looking at the Pride and Prejudice set.
Absolute pleasure. Heaps of parking. Beautiful grounds. Informative hosts. Lots of history to explore. Def a must see.
Well done to the trustees and volunteers at Clarendon House.
The gardens are an absolute delight to walk through even when the house is closed. We hope you secure the funding needed to preserve and improve the property
Loved the land around the house, still to visit inside next visit hopefully. Especially as my little Silkie Iris was invited as well. Delightful.
Sadly this old historic home is very run down and not so inviting. The history is interesting and that’s about it. The ladies whom show you around were a little stand offish but very knowledgeable. There’s nothing to say it’s $10 entry per person so watch for that, it’s not worth it. We looked around and left quickly. Such a shame the home is in such poor condition. It could be restored and be beautiful. There are no bathrooms on or in the property either.
Wonderful old building. If your in Launceston it's well worth the visit. A great example of our early colonial history. You won't be disappointed.
A Tardis trip into the past. You need to stop and remember that a 150 years have past since these objects came into existence. Entrance to Fly fishing museum was an unexpected moment, for us and QLD visitors. Highly knowledgeble volunteer with a gift of story telling. Steam punk bonanza:)
The two ladies who opened the doors today were friendly and very informative. Beautiful house and displays. Make sure you venture out to the gardens
Relaxing stroll through the gardens and farm cottages. Free to visit the gardens but you will need to pay for the house tour.
Nice old house. Very expensive to tour inside, but excellent for a (free) walk around the grounds.
Went out there on a Saturday and it was closed, so much for using my National Trust membership to help with its upkeep when it is closed for a private event.
Wow, fascinating insights into how we lived. Also great cup of tea and shortbread comes with the tour.
Really wonderful spot to visit. The history is fascinating even for the little ones. Wonderfully kept gardens to suit why not stop for a picnic. Definitely worth a stop over, would allow 2 hours for a comprehensive look. Also have the national fly fishing exhibit right next door.
