Cascades Female Factory Historic Site reviews
79Do the guided tour. Mark was amazing and obviously very passionate about making sure this important story is told.
Incredible space. The heritage interpretation has been done so respectfully and the guided tour was excellent. Thank you Hugh!
Interesting but tragic history for these poor women. A must visit. The guide was fantastic with a real passion and sincerity.
Having a guide is great for this factory as you need to imagine what it is like as most of the factory has been destroyed. Our guide Marcelle was fantastic.very sad place but Marcelle was respectful and boring there was a young family there she was made them appreciate the place it was.
Was a rainy day when we visited, but large umbrellas were provided. We did the self guided audio tour and the audio was fantastic. Well worth a visit, even in the rain.
I loved it. The self guided audio tour is great. The kids loved the activity they got to do.
Our guide clearly knew his subject and was so informative and clear using words to explain that we could picture in our minds what had happened. I bought the book of 52 female convicts to follow on.
Didn't find this particularly engaging due to the lack of actual buildings and feminist overtones in the historic narrative.
However!
The solo drama was AWESOME. The actor provide an academy performance that moved me emotionally in ways I didnt expect.
Bravo! Not to be missed.
Amazing historical place with detailed information about the terrible conditions of women prisoners and infants that were held here.
Well presented. Self-guided audio tour was a great way to learn so much. Very sad chapter in the treatment of women. Definitely leaves an impression.
Such a moving experience. I’m very glad it was part of my Tasmanian experience. If you’re interested in history make sure this is on your list… you must pay the extra to have a guided tour to get the full experience - it definitely was worth it.
What a great experience.highly recommend doing a tour then straight onto the midday play. Carissa is SO talented.taking on six (!) different characters.really bringing a confronting part of Hobart's convict history to life. Amazing.
Amazingly informative. Friendly and welcoming staff brought the horrors and stories of convicts and staff of this prison, factory, so remarkably alive. Ty
Did the tour and the performance.
They gave context, a texture and richness that had me in tears. I found more moving than the port Arthur experience.
Disappointed but understand that over time the facility was in private hands and much was removed
Pleasant and knowledgeable staff
Anton was an incredible tour guide, had a lovely 45 minute experience for all of $10.00 will absolutely be back -Dempsey
Don't waste your time or money. There is nothing left to see here unfortunately. Only some of walls of a couple of the yards remain. Very dissapointed
First off a big thankyou to them for offering a reasonable discount for concession tickets. Most places offer a token couple of dollars off which doesn't reflect the disparity between an average income and that of a concession card holder. The play was very good. The displays are worth seeing but the self guided tour audio could use some work. I didn't get to do a guided tour so it's probably a better option if you can afford it. I will do it next time.
We discovered this after a beautiful walk along the trail along the river from Hobart. History of this place is so sad but another must visit. Please support
