Bush Inn reviews
26What a gorgeous piece of history! Definitely a must visit on the way to Hobart. Staff went above and beyond, the old decor is stunning and the deck out back is great on a hot day. Can recommend the salt & pepper squid - so fresh and tender!
Really good food can thoroughly recommend the beef and Guinness pie, schnitzel, rissoles and fish and chips
OK, here is the quandary.
Venu is great.
Staff are great.
However went for lunch on Monday.
Three adults, one child.
Nuggets chips for child.
Garlic bread, steak, chicken and fish for adults.
Nuggets chips and bread came out within minutes.
Bread was a hot dog bun, cheese on top, left too long in a microwave, tough as boots.
Mains came, after asking, 40 minutes later.
By then child was well finished and disruptive.
Panko chicken overcooked dark brown and dry. Slaw poor. Fish, dry. Steak, asked for well done, had been cooked and let sit on the grill so bottom was thick charcoal and steak was cardboard.
My guess is they cooked and forgot.
At $120 it was a disaster.
One hopes it was a Monday stuff up because all the other reviews for the updated venu have been great.
NOT NICE EXPERIENCE
Reading all the lovely reviews I am wondering why my experience was so bad, but I can only review as I see it
We dined there for lunch not long after the new restaurant opened
The venue itself has a lovely view over the Derwent Valley which is a beautiful town
I really didn't notice much change inside the dining room, but it has a nice heritage feel about it
I ordered chicken burger and it was rather tasteless, the main flavour was the bun and boy were the meals fast, barely enough time to prepare
The chicken ceasar was very much the same, small amount of chicken that had no taste
but it was the fish that really shocked me, I have never seen a meal served that bad
It all looked like it had been frozen on the plate and microwaved, and the reason I say that is the fish and veggies were swimming in water the fish had no flavour or clour and the veggies were limp like frozen veggies are when reheated.
I was in shock you could actually see the water dripping from the fork as she ate it. I could not capture this in my photo but I think you can just see that the fish and veggies look very unappetizing
The waitresses were friendly but it was an over kill at the amount of times they asked us if everything was okay at least fives times with all different wait staff. I ordered a take away and upon collecting it they wait staff spilt half the sauce on the floor both the wait staff and chef thought this was funny
The steak looked amazing I would only order that if I was to go back again, but at $50 per steak + another $12 for sauce it should be amazing
Extremely disappointing dining experience
Great food, great service and location. Not just a pub feed. Deserves 5 stars. Very tasty guinness beef pie
The must visit pub wherever you're from.
After a successful reopening the streets are packed each and every day for patrons of all sorts from familiar locals to those traveling and exploring.
A beautiful mix of a warm and friendly atmosphere combined with affordable food and drinks makes for a fantastic experience.
What to try:
Any steak with The Bush secret coffee BBQ sauce.
Food is amazing and fast. Staff all so friendly and welcoming. Amazing place to sit on the deck and enjoy the sun and the views! Very family friendly will definitely be back soon! Xx
Absolutely sensational. Couldn't ask for anything more from a venue. The new ownership is incredible & the food is some of the best in the state. Will be making the trip south many times over. Couldn't speak highly enough of the Bush Inn
Most amazing food and customer service. Best steak I've ever eaten. Best thing to ever happen to new norfolk
Nice restaurant but staff look untrained and too many mistakes with orders and it looks chaos. All the history in the building has vanished too. The only positive would be the food, the food is quality and you get what you pay.
Just wanted to comment on the excellent service we received from a lovely young man - Josh. We recently had a Saturday lunch at the Bush Inn and can highly recommend the pot pie. It was simply magnificent in its flavours. The presentation of the property has greatly improved and the linen table cloths were a pleasant addition.
Amazing stay! Super friendly people (staff & guest), therefore very welcoming and good atomsphere. Located centrally but still a quiet room with very good sleep. One of my top favorite places to stay in tassie!
An oldie but a goodie. There were 26 in our group. Apart from having a long wait the food was good. Everyone was happy with their meals and the choice was good. I had chicken schnitzel and it was tender and tasty. Nice to check out old floorboards and other features kept.
Lovely old Aussie pub, very friendly staff, extensive menu including hearty seafood fare, reasonably priced. Liked the place and the people.
Ordered three meals, all came with chips and salad. We all believed that the quality of salad could improve.
The salad was made by: slice of orange, slice of boiled egg, slice of cheese, slice of beetroot, slice cucumber, bit cold pasta.
Always had a pleasant time and never had a problem with the food which I would describe as average and more homestyle than spectacular. The service can be very fast and the historic site has a pleasant atmosphere.
Top food, excellent ambience and views from the balcony. History of this place is brilliant, and if those walls could talk. Loved it.
If you're not local don't do it. We were over dressed.
The waitress didn't want us there. We Sat at a table near the door where people light their cigarettes BEFORE they go outside. Can't tell you what the over priced meals were like because we left after 15 minutes and went to the Willow court Restaurant. Re my Willow court Restaurant review
Recently had a family members wake held at the bush inn. Staff were super friendly and ensured we had a warm and friendly welcome, prepared wonderful food for our guests and made the whole experience lovely.
Tbh eating out in New Norfolk isn't that easily done, the bistro at the Bush is a bit homely, but the food is actually pretty decent quality.
