Bass Strait Maritime Centre reviews
33A fantasic display of Devonport's early maritime history. Great ships simulator that is good fun. Very friendly staff and an excellent cafe. Well worth a visit.
My husband and I love to have a weekend coffee or lunch at the cafe. My husband and parents recently saw the exhibition and said it was very well put together (although a little too much information to take in). Beautiful location, lovely staff and great place to visit.
Plenty of displays and information to keep you well entertained.
The ship simulator was a particular hit with the kids.
The only negative was it was a bit tight with the double pram, and we couldn't fit in a couple of the smaller room displays.
When in Devonport, the maritime centre is well worth a visit. There are excellent interactive activities for the kids as well as great exhibits for the adults.
Went there for a meal. There were too many people waiting for tables. The waitresses were cleaning off the tables before we had finished eating wanting us to leave so they could seat more. Rude attitude.
Great location, very interesting, reasonable entrance fee, good for children, love the cafe
It’s an impressive place. The kid had fun in the screen game. Will Recommend to my friends.
Self guided tour, lots of information on Tasmania's maritime history. Ship simulator was fun.
Rich history of Bass Strait and the people who conquered her, and those who didn't make it.
Lovely lady help us through the exhibits while it was quiet.
Terrific.
I was really surprised just how much was packed into a small space. The interactive displays were awesome and the whole museum was well laid out and worth a visit
Came in with 4 children and 3 adults. The main lady at the counter was blunt and not friendly. It was just after 3pm and I asked about food, I was told the kitchen was closed and the food in the buffet was all they had, she seemed to ignore me while I was trying to work out what everyone wanted and acted like it was a pain we were there. For 7 drinks, 6 bite sized slices and 4 ice creams it came to just under $100 dollars. I won't go back due to the staff or pricing. We live locally and were all very disappointed.
A fantastic little museum with great displays on shipping in the strait. Especially good for families. It would have been nice to see something about Indigenous seafaring amongst it.
Great food, plenty of choice. Great friendly service. Lovely outlook & plenty of room for a group of friends to gather. Make sure you book so as not to miss out
If you have a intrest in history and / or shipping this is the place to go.
Damm Fine Cafe too!
A good museum to visit if in Devonport. Very interesting to learn more about how important this port has been for Tasmania and the effect it has had on the rest of the world, especially pre wartime and through the 2nd world war.
Also has a Cafe attached for when you need a break
Amazing museum and bustling little cafe well and truly worth a visit and the highlight of my trip to tassie
Good food, friendly staff. Innapropriate/loud music for the customer demographic. Very draughty with side doors open, food was cold before I could finish it. This review is for the cafe attached to the Maritime Centre which is run as a separate business.
We visited on a Sunday afternoon and appeared to be the only people looking through the many interesting displays. The sailing simulator was great fun, being at the helm was a new experience. Adjoining cafe was very busy with lots of customers.
Enjoyed our visit to the Bass Strait Maritime Centre. Very informative centre and a great rainy day activity. Cute little gift shop too and the cafe looked lovely although we didn't try it.
